  1. Movie/TV recommendations

Huh? Did everyone skip those mini-movies? I thought they were dreadful. If season 5 is better than them, and really a return to form, I may check it out. Plus I always thought there was one awful episode in the original run: The anti-piracy one.

Ha ha. Genius! Kroms, I do believe you're the second Thumbs to make such a claim. I'm usually pretty good at hearing someone's "voice" in their writing, but I must admit that The Wire totally eluded me. Not that I mind... it's so damn good. Personally I found season two difficult to get into. It felt less realistic and more like a standard police procedural to me. It got better, though.
  3. Life

Wow, completely amazed? Cool. Those two posts were just continuing the joke that I was persecuting Kingz with my sarcasm (although the second one got stronger).
  4. Life

It was a multi-thread conversation over a few weeks. That probably explains why it was hard to follow (and maybe why you think I overreacted? ).
  5. Life

Don't worry, Kingz's comments have confused me for weeks! I'm glad it's all clear now, though. Kingz is in love with Manny Calavera, right?
  6. Life

Yes, I've seen that too. It's a weird thing. Another one I've seen is: Fan: Wow, I really love your project. It would be great if you could <improvement idea>. Project Leader: Well why don't you just do it yourself if you think you can do better?! We're doing this for free you know! Fan: Uh... ok. People are weird.
  7. Life

    Oh... Miscommunication!
  8. I thought IdleMC was dying because we couldn't afford it anymore?
  9. Life

Thanks, Sal. Without wanting to get too serious for a moment, I value every bit of feedback, even negative. If someone doesn't like something then it's very helpful if they can say what, and even better if they can offer improvements. I love that because it's very constructive. People are coming together and giving their time and energy to a project, willing it to be the best it can. It's wonderful. I also totally understand that any project isn't going to be to everyone's tastes, so I don't criticism personally. The only thing that irks me is when someone says something like, "I don't think you shouldn't even try". This isn't helpful in any way, and is potentially very destructive (possibly veering discussion into pointless "should they/shouldn't they" debate, and also deflating people's enthusiasm -- which is the very fuel a project like this runs on). Plus it shows a bizarre sense of egotism; As if I'm about to scrap a project I've been planning for over a decade, and which myself and others have already spent hours of our lives on. (Imagine if I suggested a certain internet cartoonist scrap their entire project simply because I didn't like it... and then get frustrated and annoyed when the project wasn't scrapped? What kind of ego must I have?) Anyways, in short: I'd gladly switch some Kingz for some Limones right now.
  10. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

I think it's dated, but if your grew up with it, or are especially open to British humour, there's some gold there. The first two series, and the last two, are the worst.
  11. Life

Wow, you're right. I sounded pathetically negative. Thanks for holding up a mirror to my unconstructive and egotistical whining. I'll never talk like that again! From now on the project will be dedicated to your name, in recognition of your help and support

Comedy = 0 Geekery = 11 The new Star Wars bluray is going to have a CGI version of Yoda instead of the puppet one, previously seen in that (terrible) movie: The Phantom Menace. I just find it kind of interesting how they've tried to do it: kqrRpY7I2qg xHa3D-musUw As crappy as the Yoda puppet looked in TPM, I think I prefer it to the CG version.
  13. Life

But how will the Grim Fandango Deluxe project continue without your feedback?
  14. Plug your shit

It's hosted by Gabez from Mixnmojo. It's a short, amusing podcast. Basically a round-up of that week's news, with a little extra for that week.
  15. Plug your shit

Yikes! I was hoping to keep this on the downlow until we had a clear understanding of what was possible and how much work needed to be done, but it's getting more attention than I planned. I appear on this week's Mixnmojo podcast to explain a little more about what's going, too. (They'd already mentioned it on the previous week's cast, so the cat was already out of the bag.) Looks like I need to pick up the pace before interest in the project wanes! They totally boinked the image they chose to illustrate it with, though. Even I can barely see the difference. Haha, yes. I will immediately cease all work on the project due to the fact that some people don't like it.

    That's exactly how I felt
  17. Good Old GOG

System Shock has been available to download for years and years in a special package that runs on modern machines. I've mentioned it before: http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=211.0 Make sure you go into the options and enable everything, one-by-one, and then set the game to 1024x768 in the in game menu options. (That's if you want mouse-look, etc.)

Really? I think it would be very easy to express, and in this case, it's kind of necessary if you want non-Portal fans to appreciate it. It's still great, though.
  19. Deus Ex

Yeah, I'm guessing that's one of the many reasons it was rejected. It's pretty lame. Yep, it's a simple variable you can change in the user configuration file. There's a few areas where there's still respawns, though.
  20. Deus Ex

That was only in the first release of the Rebirth mod. There's been another release since then, plus a whole new mod by someone called Arcaniac. Unfortunately it seems a little bugged or something? :-/ http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=251.0 (Also, interestingly, the "boobs" version was the original design for the character: http://www.sshock2.com/ss2mmdb/artwork/midwife.jpg)
  21. Deus Ex

It's probably worth mentioning that the reduction in the spawn rate and weapon degradation changes were added to the game by the official patch. Anyways, don't forget the texture improvement mod. It's VERY much worth it considering how low quality a lot of the original textures were. http://www.shtupmod.net/ Also there's a mod that improves the quality of the music (after a dev leaked the high quality files): http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=657.0 Finally there's a fan-made patch that fixes a ton of bugs: http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=25.0 Edit: There's also this, which is pretty nifty (new Psi-Amp model): http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=82.0

Very good indeed! Two nit-picks: Why did staring at the badly done tally marks suddenly make her realise that there was a hidden panel? (Did I miss something?) Also, for non-Portal fans, it's not made clear that she only has two portals at once -- so escaping your captors by racing up stairs using a portal gun is a pointless move: The captors can just jump through the same portal as you, giving you no advantage whatsoever. Still, pretty phenomenal. Movies have been greenlit from less... and I think this will start cogs moving in the great Hollywood machine.
  23. Deus Ex

I disagree. I was still terrified and it was the only way I was ever going to complete it. Also, the game was unbalanced in my opinion... Weapons you can only use once or twice versus and infinite number of baddies... You either had to run through every level or become super-handy with the wrench. In order words: Forget exploration. I still really enjoyed it
  24. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    Ha. It's real... http://www.foodforthepoor.org/about/leadership/
  25. Deus Ex

I loved SS2, but it took me a while to get into it. I actually used a mod to turn off respawning because 1) I love exploring levels and 2) It was just too scary without it. I also turned down weapon degradation so I could use a gun more than once.
