Yeah, that Australian law makes a lot of sense. You're hardly a threat to society if you're attracted to a 14 year old... and you're 14 yourself.
  2. Movie/TV recommendations

  3. Psychonauts on Steam

Everything is turned on, as I recall. I run at 1680 x 1050. I'm willing to bet it's your monitor. VLC and PowerDVD will draw black lines down the side of your screen. Psychonauts outputs pure 4:3. So really you're right, it's the game's fault for not being more compatible. But check your monitor, you never know, there might be a setting somewhere.
  4. Psychonauts on Steam

Wasn't stretched for me. Maybe it's your monitor?
  5. Good Old GOG

The original game is still in there, but you're right, it's now sandwiched by something substandard. Still, I enjoyed it.
  6. Life

This thread should be renamed "BBX, Life Coach".
  7. Life

Dude, you're bummed because you've told yourself that what happened is somehow your fault. You did nothing wrong. You just acted how you are, and she reacted in a way that's consistent with her. That's just the way it is. You don't know what's going to happen in the future, and you don't know what would have happened if she hadn't stopped talking to you. If you start saying things like, "If only this..." or "If only that..." then you're compounding the problem by telling yourself that your life would have definitely have been better if she'd stuck around... but you don't know that. And there's evidence from her behaviour to the contrary. You could have gotten to know her better and found out you really disliked her. Or a million other negative outcomes. You seem to think that the fact that she's not talking to you is what's making you unhappy. It's not. What's making you unhappy is that you're telling yourself that this was important and you've irreversibly messed it up. There's so much negative spin on that thought, it's barely rational. You have no idea what you've lost, so why decide it was something big? You have don't know why she's not talking to you, so why decide you're entirely to blame? You have no idea what's going to happen in the future, so why have you decided it's completely over? Work your way through that link I sent you, and stop convincing yourself that your negative view of the situation is right. It's just a negative view. You have no idea what's going to happen. Also, good job on opening up and talking about it here
  8. Psychonauts on Steam

Yeah, I was hoping for one, but then I just went and bought it on Steam anyway. There's no discs, it's been updated, and it's a game worth buying twice... especially for so little. Plus I'm supporting DoubleFine in the process.
  9. Psychonauts on Steam

    - Steam Achievements - Steam Cloud saves - XBox 360 Controller Support - The Meat Circus has been made more "fair" Some are claiming the graphics have been improved, too. The press release:
  10. Psychonauts on Steam

No, I meant, the updated version coming to the 360. (Note that it's no longer available as an "XBox Original", possibly meaning there's a new version around the corner.) The new version has achievements and updated graphics and tweaked difficulty, etc. Anyway, I just bought it on Steam. They got me...

    Also this is out: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/psychonauts-vault-viewer!/id464585178?mt=8
  12. Psychonauts on Steam

I want it, but not if there's a 360 version around the corner. Sadly nobody on the DF forums has answered this question.
  13. Psychonauts on Steam

I've been doing some research and there's 360 controller support, and also people talking about improved graphics, too. I wonder if it's coming to the 360?
  14. Psychonauts on Steam

Weird. Any idea what the update is?
  15. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    Yep.
  16. Deus Ex 3

Awesome. As soon as it comes down in price, I will play it!
  17. Life

Don't go and make absurd overarching statements like "I ruined things". She feels how she feels at the moment. It seems totally unreasonable to not talk to someone because they lied about their age. Whatever is going on, if she genuinely lovely, then she'll talk to you at some point and your relationship will resume. I imagine time will change things. Anyway, bottom line: Don't beat yourself up over this. Really. I'm sending you a link.
  18. Life

I wouldn't let it get to you. If she won't talk to you at all because of something as silly as that, then I'd say she's pretty damned unreasonable... and so better off outside your life. There's plenty of genuinely lovely people out there.
  19. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

He sounds exactly like my finance friends. If he's an independent trader, as you say he is, I don't have any reason to doubt his veracity. He attitude and candor is exactly what I've heard many times before. It's precisely how banks work: They care about making a profit, not about society. This isn't controversial in the slightest. (I think the BBC staff were more shocked at his honesty than what he was saying.) As one of my banking friends explained the capitalists point of view to me: It's a company's job to make a profit BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY. It's the government's job to stop companies doing anything too evil/exploitative. (This is why we have weekends, limits on the hours we work, minimum wage, statutory holidays, etc... A company doesn't care about such things if it doesn't have to -- If a company could make you work 100 hours a week for a penny an hour, they would. Or at least, some of them would. And the companies that didn't would rely on them treating their staff fairly as a way to selling their more expensive products... Just like Fair Trade chocolate tries to do.) This is one of the many reasons why the people who are calling for smaller governments and less regulation (like that rap/boxing YouTube video) are wrong, IMHO. His personal opinion on the future is another thing... nobody knows for sure. He could be very wrong, he could be right. Only time will tell.
  20. Deus Ex 3

Ugh. Sorry to sound negative and not offer anything to the discussion, but I hated that article.
  21. Movie/TV recommendations

    Wow, you're a massive nerd!
  22. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

    Spot the typo...
  23. Planescape: Torment

It's interesting you should say that. The first time I played it I felt really overwhelmed with the world. I stopped playing really early on because of it. When I eventually went back I found myself wondering what was so difficult to get my head around. It was nowhere near as complicated as I'd remembered. I think one thing is for sure, though. Complicated or not, it's a lot more rewarding when you're giving it your full attention. It's not a casual game, but its depth is very rewarding if you stay with it.
  24. Movie/TV recommendations

Yep, i posted my recommendation for the film months ago when it was released here.
  25. Planescape: Torment

The combat's really easy, i found. The patches on my guide do a good job of removing the randomness to the point where some hardcores think it's too easy. As for my objective opinion of the game, I'd say it's the closest that any game has come to making me cry. But you have to love reading... There's a lot of text!
