  1. I love and adore the special edition, so you should definitely own a copy of it!
  2. Brütal Legend overload...!

Haha. For what it's worth, going off my stats there're a lot of people coming via the Google term 'Brutal Legend PC'. I'd imagine EA have noticed the same thing, so you never know. :~ At least there's some demand. Depends how much of a pain in the arse it'd be for them to port, but the engine must be somewhat flexible seeing as it's on both the 360 and PS3. And yeah man, I totally agree about the voice acting. I've seen quite a few people trashing Jack Black while talking about Brutal Legend, which pisses me off because he's a genuinely great voice actor (see also: Kung Fu Panda). I die a little inside when I see people saying they're not buying it because they hate Jack Black.
  3. Brütal Legend overload...!

God damn. The game looks and plays great — can’t wait for the final product more than ever now. It's a short demo, only really serving as a tutorial. Still, it took me 30–45 minutes to get through and it covers up to and includes the fight with the massive vagina thing. It doesn't really give the story time to get properly started though, only really covering Eddie's elongated "WTF?" reaction. Impressed, though. Only the hack-and-slash and the driving gameplay is shown, but both feel solid as fuck. Double Fine generally seems very good at pulling off foreign genres — Psychonauts handled really well as a platformer despite being new territory for like all the developers — which bodes well for the more advanced group/RTS stuff that isn't included in the demo. It's actually a lot generally prettier and polished than I expected too, which is weird as I've been looking at media for months. The close-ups of Eddie and such are brilliant on a HD TV, and the environment art like the crazy storm shit going on while you're in your car looks amazing. Even the main menu of all things is slick as a twat.
  4. PSP

I don't want to get too deeply into this whole 'PSP tries too hard to be a home console' thing, but for fucks sake I wish that new Metal Gear Solid game was coming out on the PS3 instead.
  5. Brütal Legend overload...!

Holy shit, I should be playing this (to an extent) when I get home tonight.
  6. Scribblenauts review up!

You have to wonder how something apparently so obvious could get past testing, though. Is the fact that everyone seems to hate the controls not a sign you should perhaps think about making adjustments? I get the impression someone had too much faith in his own vision and disregarded complaints or something.
  7. Scribblenauts review up!

Damn, having read the whole review the control issues do sound astoundingly bad. Seems like the game has ended up as an absolutely amazing toy, but as an actual game and interface it's a bit shit. Think I might have to get it for the toy aspect alone, though.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

Anyone who thinks Derren Brown really predicted the lottery is a twat and deserves to be taken in by the magic he purports to debunk. How many times does the guy need to clarify that everything he does is a trick? The only difference here is that a key ingredient of this trick actually working is to completely fool the audience into believing it isn't a trick — which seems to have worked very well for some reason going off how many people seem to have fallen for it.
  9. Tales of Monkey Island

Didn't the well look identical to the wishing well in the first episode, which was itself a vital part of at least two puzzles? It caught my eye right away because of that, anyway.
  10. Definition Transition - Are YOU HD?

Man, you've clearly not used the updated XMB interface! Even using it makes me feel like some kind of aristocrat. In all seriousness though, the PS3 works really well as long as you have the Blu-Ray remote that I had no idea existed for a while. I can see how you'd look like the biggest dolt ever sat there with your girlfriend holding a gamepad to cycle through the film, so it's pretty much a must-buy for film-watching purposes. While we're on the subject, has anyone noticed that the PS3's new integrated iPlayer doesn't seem to show the HD broadcasts, or am I missing something? If it doesn't, WTF?
  11. Definition Transition - Are YOU HD?

I was pretty amazed when I first saw a Blu-Ray film, and now I pretty much refuse to watch a film until I've gotten the Blu-Ray version. And it downright pains me to watch certain SD television channels, because in the UK some seem to have awful compression such as FX. Good job FX does a HD channel too that they show The Wire on or I'd be well annoyed. Of course a critical factor here is the size of your TV — the smaller it is, the less you'll be impressed.
  12. Definition Transition - Are YOU HD?

I used blu-tac to put mine on top of the TV.
  13. Tales of Monkey Island

Monkey Island has always been at the high end of fantastical when it comes to depicting pirates, really. I mean it's not like ghosts, zombies, demons, and voodoo feature in your average pirate story — unless you count the Pirates of the Caribbean films which were pretty much derived from Monkey Island anyway. The mer-things are just yet another weird thing in this rather unique universe Monkey Island has constructed for itself, and they didn't seem at all inappropriate to me. Hell, it's not like this is the first time mer-people have been hinted at in a Monkey Island game, even if they were previously more general references to pirate legend.
  14. Definition Transition - Are YOU HD?

Yeah, I've been HD for a few years. I can very easily see how general ignorance might result in a lot of people not being properly kitted up though, and I think at this point there needs to be a more concerted effort from various parties to educate consumers. For example, consoles and cable/satellite boxes should tell you when first turned on that the picture will be much sharper if you can plug it in via a HDMI cable, and then show a happy little picture of one. Consoles absolutely fucking should come with them (WTF, Microsoft and Sony?), and any TVs sold should clearly outline that they're designed to be used with a HDMI cable and not a legacy cable (even my Panasonic VIERA had nothing like this). At least when things are installed professionally consumers do tend to get educated. For example, the delivery man actually explained to me the whole HDMI thing when he brought the TV — but I think it's a stretch to think every store will have such well-trained blokes. And when I had Sky HD installed, the engineer hooked it all up with HDMI and explained the importance of it. But when consumers are left to their own devices it's clearly going to be a mess.
  15. First game you remember playing

I dunno, I was like three. I do remember really loving it though, and continuing to play it for years. I really liked Treasure Island Dizzy, too.
  16. First game you remember playing

It's either Monkey Island or Fantasy World Dizzy — can't remember which, but those are my earliest gaming memories.
  17. DeathSpank

Man, if it were a PSP or DS game it'd look amazing.
  18. LCD TV as a PC monitor, good idea or bad idea?

Haha. I like the bot's smackdown to your wit.
  19. Heavy Rain

    Yeah, same here.
  20. Hahaha. Though I will point out that if you're not fighting the PMC soldiers and escaping rather than just giving up and letting yourself be killed, you're doing it wrong.
  21. Tales of Monkey Island

New piece of awesome: Incidentally, I watched all three Pirates of the Caribbean films for the first time this last weekend. Man, talk about the script's origin being obvious! Davy Jones is probably the coolest character I've seen in ages, though.
  22. Commandos

    Hahah:
  23. Brütal Legend overload...!

That's what he gets for standing in front of a massive 'NO PHOTOS' sign.
  24. Brütal Legend overload...!

I think that's the first picture I've seen of Schafer in a really long time where he's not wearing some kind of brutal/metal/death shirt.
  25. Commandos

Yeah, Commandos is definitely a game that hit every notch when it comes to the 'wow' factor. I mean Commandos 1 had some complex levels, but I remember my face and cock literally dropping off when I saw the scale and detail of some the levels in Commandos 2. God, man. You are only amplifying how disappointed I'll be if it's another Strike Force.
