  1. Beyond Better & Evil!

Oh yes! I was just talking to a colleague last week about how desperately BG&E needs a HD re-release, especially if they expect this generation to buy a sequel. Probably have a better marketing push this time around too.
  2. Good Old GOG

I find with most old games it's optimal to never go back to them because doing so rapes my mind's eye memories of the games. There're some exceptions where the games were particularly incredible, but in most cases it does more damage than good (eg: Ocarina of Time). I like to leave most old game memories as just that: fond, nostalgic, happy memories.
  3. Ron Gilbert joins Doublefine!

    Excellent.
  4. Broken Sword: Director's Cut

Hmm, I've got a vague memory of hiding in a wardrobe or something in the hospital and potentially being caught/killed there. Is that gone?
  5. Broken Sword: Director's Cut

Yeah I'm definitely interested in this. I consider the original two Broken Sword games two of the finest adventures I've played, alongside Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. Just excellent in all ways (unlike the third and fourth instalments). I've heard a fair bit of hearsay alluding to the director's cut having taken things out, but not seen much in the way of actual comparing or researching this. All I've been able to gather for sure is that the intro that pans over Paris has been redrawn to reflect the new beginning point, and the cutscene with the clown bomb has been extended. I've heard it mentioned that the director's cut may be based on the older console re-releases which took a number of non-vital hotspots out the game to streamline things a bit (would be a shame), but no confirmation of this applying to the PC director's cut.
  6. Good Old GOG

Wankers. But I forgive them, it's too good a collection of games.
  7. Ico & Shadow of the Colossus HD

Very much looking forward to this. I did get Shadow of the Colossus right at the beginning of my PS3 days, by which point I just couldn't get into it due to the jerky frame rate and low resolution. There's a brief teaser here by the way: 96yRr_LpMbU
  8. Duke Nukem Forever Canned [and then not]

I might just go ahead and slash my wrists now.
  9. Starcraft 2

Might have to get this. How strategic is it in the grand scheme of things? I'd probably consider something like Command & Conquer amongst the less strategic RTS games out there, usually being a case of 'hold out and build a billion of unit X and you win'. I'd consider something like Dawn of War or Company of Heroes of the more strategic variety, requiring a lot of very precise actions and decisions to win.
  10. Aquaria

I noticed miffy mentioned this in the backlog thread, and having looked into it further it looks really nice -- especially for what is seemingly an indie game. I've also noticed some guys in another forum I visit raving about it a bit. I don't have the time for it now, but it'll be going on my backlog if it plays as good as it looks. Have some and . Also perhaps some Wikipedia. It's clear that the original art and music really stands out, which is really drawing me towards it being the superficial tosser that I am. It is kind of sucky when slightly special games fly under the radar. My radar, anyway! And that's what really matters.
  11. Sad video game music

SIxubCwTe1w And if you want to whip out the big guns (coupled with the actual scene that goes with this is some sad shit): Gr8WslV4cEw
  12. Rage

God man. I just started reading about Carmack's engine accomplishments on Wikipedia and I think it's fair to say no amount of awards would be appropriate for the ingenuity flowing through that fucker's veins.
  13. Portal 2

Trailer intro = Also is it me or was HL2 actually not that long a game at all? I thought it was about an average length really. I remember playing it over a really long period of time to try and savour it. Or was it longer than the 10–12 hours I'm recalling? HL1 on the other hand feels positively endless in memory, though I could be totally wrong about that too.
  14. Worms Armageddon

Yeah, the official PC sequel to Worms Armageddon is Worms Reloaded and is coming out this year. It was originally going to just be the XBLA game but it it's evolved into a full-blown sequel. And yes, I am actually nostalgic about the ridiculously frquent and long Mojo/Thumbs Worms games.
  15. Deus Ex 3

I'd imagine the stealth gameplay will be retained. It's a bit like how the Metal Gear Solid trailers are typically packed with action, whereas in reality you spend most of your time creeping around. The prominence of the invisibility stuff would indicate there'll be a lot of stealth type stuff, particularly that bit where he arseholes the guy using the keypad or whatever. I'm guessing most of the fancy moves like crushing heads can be done quietly if desired. Probably end up being a bit like Crysis: you can play it MGS-style or Gears of War-style.
  16. Deus Ex 3

I never really had any love for the originals, but that trailer is great. I got a huge Blade Runner crossed with Batman Begins vibe from it (probably largely down to the character sounding exactly like Bale's Batman).
  17. Beyond Better & Evil!

Man, this shit is like a rollercoaster.
  18. Monkey Island 2: SE

    Haha, interesting you posted that. For some reason this conversation randomly crept into my mind while I was laid in bed last night and it occurred to me that canonically it'd make no sense for it to be anything but regular Boen as the MI2 LeChuck. And I love it, for the record. ;
  19. Beyond Better & Evil!

I will burn this industry to the ground.
  20. What if renting/borrowing became extinct?

Haha, this thread reminded me of when I was younger and used to rent everything so my dad could burn a copy. Man what a pair of dicks we were. Nowadays I buy every game I play. I seem to barely find time to play games I got like two years ago, never mind try and fit in a significant amount of playtime during the rental allowance. With that said, with things like LOVEFiLM (UK's Netflix) you can rent games indefinitely. I've never really done it though, I find it easier to just have a massive stack of unfinished games on my shelf and play certain ones when I'm in the mood.
  21. Sony gets sued.

I don't really care much about this feature, but I'd say I'm firmly of the opinion that withholding PSN access is very much crippling the console in many ways. Generally when you buy a PS3 you expect to be able to play online, get patches, use the iPlayer, and everything else the PS3 is advertised as being able to do. To force you to either sacrifice that or accept removal of other advertised features and then call it a choice is an extremely questionable stance to take IMO. It's probably best to imagine it's something you actually care about, though. Pretend that instead of the Linux support being removed it's free online play that's being removed, or the iPlayer streamer (if in the UK), or the ability to play music, etc.
  22. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

Well by gracefully I just meant transparently. I didn't even realise that's what they were doing until after I'd finished it — I just assumed it was all rendered in-engine. I wouldn't want the cutscenes to be more detailed or anything (beyond LODing) as that generally looks a bit lame. Metal Gear Solid 4 pulled a similar trick a number of times, where they had so much detail packed in it ran too slowly on the PS3 so they recorded it at a lower frame rate then sped it up. That would solve problems like mentioned above where S&M's cutscenes alone run quite badly but the game is OK, but as I say not ideal on the million-configurations nature of the PC.
  23. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

Well, it can be done gracefully — see Uncharted 2 for a good example. Of course that's all well and good for them with a billion gigabytes of Blu-ray to fill. Much harder on the PC I guess due to the huge variation in settings and stuff. Perhaps use a separate set of videos for each graphics setting!
  24. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

I'd imagine size is the biggest factor. Lots of people (including me) will be playing S&M on high resolutions like 1920x1080, especially on the HD console releases. I don't know how many long cutscenes there are, but even a minute of HD footage could set you back at least 100MB — unless you compress it so much it's obviously a video.
  25. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

I'd forget about it. Past releases have had delays and you're best off saving yourself the frustration. You don't want to be one of the TTG forum obsessos going mental because it's five hours later than announced.
