  1. Games with dogs (pets)

... which is why I was totally not amused the first time I accidentally jumped off a huge hill with mine and he immediately died from the fall, throwing me off in the process. This being the first time it'd happened I desperately tried to revive him by interacting with him, which caused me to fucking skin him.
  2. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

I don't have a problem with the design, looks pretty sharp to me. I do have a problem with the amount of room the fucker's going to take up on my TV stand though. I hope Sony have an ultra-compact version of the Eye shipping with the PS4.
  3. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

While I've always seem countdowns as cheesy gimmicks, it is now apparent to me that they do in fact serve a critical purpose.
  4. The Last of Us

For me this is one of those games where I just know it's going to be a great experience so I'm not really following the media, trying to hype myself up, etc. It's a bit like when I get a JJ Abrams film: I just know it's going to be a bit of all right and that's all I need to know. Compared to some of the next-gen stuff we're starting to see it just can't compare so it's the storytelling and characters I'm expecting to make this special.
  5. are u supreme commander material?

I was always intrigued by this game but upon trying the demo was almost immediately put off by its apparent complexity compared to say, C&C. Maybe I was just being a namby pamby, though.
  6. Curiosity – What's Inside the Cube?

Looks like the undying question of 'WAT IS IN KOOB' is due to be answered soon. I opened it today for the first time since my last post and it's now full of countdown timers and shit. So, intrigued, I looked up the reason: http://m.computerandvideo games.com/376949/blog/curiosity-uncovered-we-discover-whats-in-the-cube/
  7. Alternative perspectives of Liberty City

The best example of this for me is Opposing Force, the first and best Half-Life expansion that had you dropping into the facility as one of the very same soldiers sent there to kill the character you played as in the main game plus all the aliens, etc. It was handled incredibly well, going so far as to let you watch Gordon Freeman elude you by a mere moment as he does something you did in the main game. Seeing Black Mesa from another perspective was also brilliant, making a vast facility seem even vaster. That is the kind of thing I'd love to see more of. I'm really hoping Rockstar makes use of the opportunity for three-way interaction they've got in GTA5, I can see them having you do things as one character which then opens up missions for another where you go to that same place in the aftermath of whatever madness ensued before.
  8. PL4YST4TION 4

Man that baby advert, I'd expunged that from my memory. Thanks! The Vita launch advert is probably my favouritest of Sony ads, apart from the glasses-wearing dude with psychotic rape stare.
  9. GTA V

That wave stuff is so cool. With PhysX — which can do all kinds of astonishing things beyond water — being an NVIDIA technology I assumed the next-gen consoles wouldn't be making use of it, being all AMD-based. But based upon cursory research it looks like NVIDIA have actually worked with Sony to get it fully incorporated into the PS4, which is pretty fucking sweet. Could end up giving PS4 exclusives a serious edge if Microsoft haven't done the same, as PhysX has the potential to literally transform games but it's never taken off due to inadequate support by the majority of gaming's audience (ie: all consoles and anyone without a recent NVIDIA card).
  10. Game Dev Tycoon

Normally I wouldn't care about idea evolution, I just found it funny how it was coming from a company trumpeting so hard about piracy, ripping off developers' efforts, etc. As the article I posted says it seems this is actually a very different game from Game Dev Story beyond the basics.
  11. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Well, that certainly takes the concept of a cover a bit literally.
  12. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

You have to paste as plain text if you're using Chrome, it's a button in the editor. I noted that this happens and why in the forum feedback thread so hopefully someone'll get round to having a look at it at some point.
  13. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I'd like to repeat my thanks for bringing my attention to Janelle, for this is one of the best albums I've heard in ages. The variety, this is prog-like. Shieeeeet.
  14. Dishonored - or - GIFs By Breckon

I've noticed that I rarely bother with DLC when first playing/finishing a game, but it does provide quite an attractive reason to replay a game some time later. For example with Deus Ex: HR I have a whole new chapter to look forward to when I replay it, and the same for Dishonored.
  15. Game Dev Tycoon

While it's tempting to say 'it's that game that made a big deal about piracy while totally plagiarising another game', this was a pretty good read and makes it sound like the actual game development aspect of the game is much better and more grounded in reality compared to Game Dev Story: http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2013/05/game-dev-tycoon-play-and-piracy.html That said, both fail to particularly appeal to me. I imagine they sound a lot more fun than they actually are, with the type of stuff I enjoy most in simulation games (building) minimised, and most of the time spent in menus manipulating a vast web of variables.
  16. GTA V

The only real similarity between the GTA3 and GTA4 Liberty City was that both had three boroughs. Everything else was quite different and also on a completely different scale (I think you could fit the entirety of GTA3's Liberty City into just one of the GTA4 Liberty City boroughs). Also GTA4 was a bit more forward with its aping of New York.
  17. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

Haha. I have to say, that is exactly the kind of gaudy design I can see Microsoft coming out with. And yes, it's a joke.
  18. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

I distinctly remember Sony coming right out and saying it won't require an internet connection to play games a few months ago.
  19. GTA V

Recommended. As much as it blew my mind at the time, GTA4 is kind of dated-looking now. I remember finding the Red Dead Redemption version of the engine significantly sharper and this is looking like yet another stride beyond that.
  20. Any (traditional) parades in games

Man, that clown. Just one of countless endlessly memorable characters in that game.
  21. Backendy server changes

    BOIIIII this right HERE is my ****** ******* ****** ENGINE-X! I use this **** to supercharge like a ****** ******, *****!!!!!
  22. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

Oh right, they brought her back after DKC. Well I haven't really thought much of any DK game since that excellent series so they count not to me. She looks well fit in DK64 though:
