  1. Post your face!

I think he's saying that your shave level constitutes being unshaven. Which I agree with — plenty of hair on those chops!
  2. I Had A Random Thought...

Nice one Patrick. When's the third date?? Ho ho, I kid. Good to hear though. Can't say much more than happy for you.
  3. PL4YST4TION 4

神いまいましい不安定なカム!! But in all seriousness, I do like to see the fact that all of these various streaming and social features are finally coming together in such a way that's pretty cool, and more importantly being integrated gracefully into what I spend 90% of my gaming time on: consoles.

I can't even figure out what he's thinking. Why would he just stand there and do that?! He'd have been better off just saying 'sorry mate' and walking away rather than standing there like he's having a seizure.
  5. Life

    ...what?! That is bizarre.

As far as I'm aware there's virtually universal cross-compatibility between Windows 7 and 8, just like between Vista and 7. While 8 does treat the traditional desktop view with less priority than its predecessors, it's not emulating anything — it's largely the same platform as Vista and 7, presented differently. The only thing where I'd imagine you could encounter compatibility issues are drivers, but as you're getting a whole new machine that shouldn't be a problem.
  8. Let's Draw Video Games

Man, more Half-Life. There is a project-related reason for this obsession but who knows if I'll ever actually finish it. Anyway, here's what my earlier sketch turned into:

Much better. She's so fit, man.
  10. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

If you mean what I think you do, it's a pretty common chord progression that has been used in numerous songs — I've certainly heard it many times. It can be surprising how pervasive a relatively limited set of chords feature in popular music. The first one in this video is what I consider one of the most clichéd (yet still enjoyable) of all:

I too really liked Grand Theft Auto 4's look. Obviously it was very grey and claustrophobic, but that was the point. While I've never been to New York, after watching countless documentaries, films, and TV shows about it I very much got the feeling that the atmosphere GTA4 created was somewhat authentic. It might not literally look the same, but it gives you its 'this place is glorious but kind of shitty' feeling. With that said, I vastly preferred San Andreas to GTA3 for the same reasons that will likely make me vastly GTA5 to GTA4. I do like colour in my games, and I like natural environments that contrast with the relentless cityscapes. I got more of a 'this is somewhere I actually like spending time' feeling from San Andreas, exploring mountains, deserts, and forests. I never got that in GTA3 or GTA4. All that said, some of the technical shit that went on with the PS3 version of GTA4 in particular was unfortunate. The game was very much marred by running on a sub-720p resolution (I think the PS3 version was actually closer to standard definition than the minimum requirement of 'HD') and aggressive detail clipping.

It's definitely a challenging thing, Hermie. I'm quite fortunate because I'm an anti-social fuck anyway, so a small number of friends I see occasionally is enough for me. My girlfriend was struggling with finding new friends for a while, but eventually found some great ones through Roller Derby. Like many cities, there's a local team; while the sport is hard work, the girls that do it form extremely strong bonds with each other. Guys get involved too as referees and it all ends up being a very strong social experience, lots of going to bars/pubs together and such. I also mentioned it to a female co-worker of mine who moved here from elsewhere and it's been a huge thing for her, almost life-changing. Her wedding was full of friends she'd met there. I personally never got on with it as I'm just not a skating kind of person, but that's the kind of thing you should seek out to form strong bonds with people. I guess you can meet friends anywhere, but when there's a need to work with people on a common goal that's when things tend to blossom. I've met some great friends through work too, so maybe it's worth finding somewhere better to work if all your co-workers aren't really the kind of people you could share an evening out with. Life's too short to waste your working hours with assholes.

Oh man, he even makes a rape joke in the main video. By which I mean he comes right out and says he wants to rape Heidi Klum.

It's actually hard for me to tell if the Uwe Boll we know is some preposterous piss-take of a character, or an actual person.
  16. Life

I personally started to find being constantly surrounded by the town and people that I'd grown up with claustrophobic. Also, there was nothing for my career there. I'm happier than ever now that I've developed new friendships, a relationship, and a new general way of life by breaking all those old habits.

I've always found it pretty daunting going into uncharted territory, whether it's starting college or starting a new job. The worst was probably college as I knew I was stuck there for years and felt a pressure to do things right, get sorted socially before cliques started developing, etc. Funnily enough, moving to a new city where I didn't know anybody didn't phase me much, but I think that was because I knew I could always move if I wanted to. I guess the lack of control of both moving and starting a long uni stint must be difficult. I have coped in all such situations by completely immersing myself in my new environment. Just go right ahead and jump into activity/social clubs, exploring the area, and get involved with anything you possibly can — start saying 'yes' to everything like Jim Carrey. It's your opportunity to be and do whatever you want, free of the eyes and expectations of those you know.
  18. Feminism

This is a wild aside twig but I've noticed that it's becoming a bit habitual for you to get involved with discussions and then when people start disagreeing too much (i.e. lay down an argument) you basically dismiss them and/or the whole thread. Not saying you're a bad person or anything, but it's pretty bad form IMO — perhaps even insulting to those you've initiated a debate with, and likely to put people off bothering to have serious discussions with you in future (as has been the fate of other Thumbers). Better off just silently exiting if that's really what you want to do. Nobody wants to hear something to the effect of 'I no longer deem you worthy of my time so I shall ignore your opinion(s)'.

Look, bastards. I haven't. And that's all that matters here.
  20. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

You should be able to delete specific cookies in Chrome, probably others too. Just finding any that come up for 'vimeo' or 'kickstarter' would do it I imagine. It's a useful thing to rule out before getting too carried away as cookie-related bugs are something that can easily be introduced by changes to the website code but are unfortunately inconvenient for developers to resolve short of saying 'wipe your cookies' due to the client-side nature of them.
  21. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

You mean episode 11? I just went to the Double Fine Kickstarter page and clicked 'Updates', and after logging in it seems to work fine for me in Chrome: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/doublefine/double-fine-adventure/posts Even though it's just a Vimeo video, I think the page uses some kind of referrer validation bullshit to make sure you can actually watch it. Maybe if you've got something stopping referrers being checked (fancy privacy plug-in, adblock, etc), it's interfering. Also you could just try clearing your cookies and logging back in. Edit: Man, I really enjoyed the McConnell part of that. Just like being sat in the den of a nutcase musician doing his shit.
  22. Shantae HD Kickstarter!

No, you can't. I had no idea it was anything but a straight platformer until you just said otherwise. I'm certainly more interested now that I know that, and it would have been wise of them to make that more clear in the video. It does seem strange that fans are being asked to back this as you'd think that with them getting other Shantae games out right now and them presumably having great publisher connections (considering all their licensed titles) they'd be able to get this funded in other ways. I guess Double Fine has done the same thing, but then would publishers have funded an adventure game or quirky-ass strategy game costing so much? Probably not, whereas something tells me WayForward could have gotten this funded more traditionally. I guess we're now heading into a space where developers are actually choosing fan-funded games over publishers even though they could probably succeed with either. Interesting times, and some publishers might be starting to develop the first inklings of a sweaty forehead over it.
  23. Feminism

That Strawberry Shortcake thing pretty much kills any arguments that they're doing this for the greater good of comedy, freedom of speech, etc.
  24. Looking for new laptop for Unity3D, Blender

I don't know how they compare to other brands, but I've had a Dell 24-inch monitor which still looks as good as new (and better than most current-day consumer monitors) six+ years later. I've also been using a Dell laptop for the past year and it feels pretty solid and looks good. No component problems to speak of.
  25. Shantae HD Kickstarter!

I don't think anyone's disputing their games look great, it's the whole 'good gameplay' part that some seem to be questioning. I agree that this Kickstarter seems odd considering the other releases going on. Kickstarters are usually fuelled by people wanting to revive a much-loved old franchise — which isn't needed here.
