If I were you, I'd avoid the Geforce 4 MX range. They are pretty much souped-up Geforce 2s, and as far as I'm aware can be easily outperformed by most of the Geforce 3 range. Take the "MX" off of there though and look at the higher range GF4s and you'll find yourself with a fairly decent card. I'd personally not skimp though, and just try to get hold of the highest-range card that you can afford. Psychonauts is fairly intensive if you decide to play it with its settings all beautified, and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that a GF4 of any kind would have trouble with it at times -- possibly even the lower half of the GF5 range. It really is a huge kick in the teeth to buy a new graphics card and then have it not support the games you want to use it with too well. The Radeon 9600+ cards are fairly decent from what I've seen though.

I've had no changes on GameStop's tracking page. It's still saying it's set for the 19th. ¬

Haha, yes. I just know that I'm going to end up buying 99% of the stuff on this site at some point or other. I mean, a SIGNED game? SIGNED poster? How can any sane man resist?!

I want a Razputin action figure.

For those that can't see a damn thing on the aftermath picture, here's a super elite nightvision version.

Come on, let's be honest. That "sneak peek" looks like absolute shit. What on Earth were Valve thinking, using something like that to hype up a future game? Good God.

Well, there will be a soundtrack, we already know that. I assume this announcement is relating to the soundtrack, although the whole "mess with" statement doesn't seem appropriate when referring to a soundtrack.

Dude, it is open. The room must have really poor ventilation or something. I'm sitting here with nothing but Firefox and mIRC open (which has been so for a few hours) and it's reporting 72°C. I only have the PSU fan and a generic fan in there though, which is almost certainly not sufficient. Plus there's a load of dust, so I'm going to take it outside and give it some air.

That's insane. My 6600GT was around $240, and that was a reasonable price. :~ Also it seems that, after a little investigation my computer is in actual fact not struggling with Psychonauts for the most part, since I noticed that the occasional slowdowns only seem to kick in after I've been playing for like 3-4 minutes -- before then it's smooth as butter. It's overheating, to the tune of 80°C plus. I think I'm going to need to thoroughly dedust it and get a couple of extra fans in here. :~

I've managed to fix my occasional lag pretty much completely by lowering to 800x600, like you did. I never really even thought about trying that, but it's hardly noticable anyway with all the anti-aliasing and stuff enabled. The performance gain is totally worth it.

Great demo. It's totally passed my long list of expectations, and I can see a very bright and fuzzy future ahead of me with this game. The controls are surprisingly fluid with the keyboard/mouse combo, although the lack of precision with the arrow keys is kind of a hitch. It'd be nice to have a good PC controller, but I have no idea what to get that (preferably resembles the Xbox controller and) is cheap. I had the same thought when I began playing. The lack of a contrast setting in the game itself is the main problem. However, I used the nvidia drivers' per-application colour tweaking to raise the contrast a bit, and then in turn heightened the brightness level in Psychonauts. It's not quite perfect and I'll need to tweak it some more, but it's a little more vivid. Like this:

Good lord. :~ Edit: The Tetris bit was ace.

Yes, the whole tit thing is good too. It looks like they've made some considerable efforts to make her look a bit more like a likable female character that looks pretty, rather than a blatantly for-men big-breasted bimbo with that typical porn start look.

Indeed. I don't think the point with Lara is to create a photo realistic woman. As far as characters go, I think Lara looks far better than her earlier renditions.

Let's hope Vivendi will put the same effort into marketing it as Majesco, in that case. Although I'm not sure how much of a role they take in the actual marketing. I'm not really that knowledgable about how it all works when two (fairly) major publishers are involved.

I'm motivated to believe that it's just another slightly intelligent spambot. If he actually follows this thread up with a response, I may change that opinion. ;

I do not approve of this thread.

"On the Spot," Psychonauts on "On the Spot," and other gamer TV
Thrik replied to Moosferatu's topic in Video Gaming
I have to say, I don't exactly dislike the show because of the interviewers. I genuine effort is being made to make a gaming programme which genuinely appeals to and delivers interesting information to gamers. Sure, the interviewers are a little hyperactive and amateurish, but can you all honestly say that you didn't actually enjoy the interview? You'd prefer to watch the mainstream-targetted trash that's presented by teen bad-boy posers on TV? I just hope that more gaming programmes on TV start to step more in the direction of actual gamers, and air stuff that we actually want to see. Developed by gamers for gamers, so to speak. That's why so many people loved Gamesmaster in the 1990s -- it was presented by a real gamer who had some pretty amusing wit to boot, which made the show both informed and entertaining at the same time. GameSpot appear to have gotten the former point in check, but their actual entertainment is lacking a bit due to the presenters being fairly unfunny and interesting, instead relying on their interviewees to do the job for them. Kind of went off on a tangent there. -
I just joined Seattle, since you did. If I win a copy of Psychonauts, I'll give it away to somebody since I don't reside in the US.

http://namco-ch.net/katamari_damacy_ps2/stage/index.php Someone tells me those are from Katamari Damacy 2, and that they're new. I haven't really got much interest in it due to the whole "not being available here" thing, but a lot of you seem to like it. ;
