  1. Preordering from Amazon

Ace — thanks. I am shit and couldn't find anything relevant on the site.
  2. Snakes on a Plane (and Gnarls Barkley)

Hahahaha. I bet viewers will be continuously on the edge of their seats, wondering what weapon of choice Samuel will whip out next.
  3. I'm starting to dislike used game stores.

Do these retailers get some kind of bonus for selling those offers? When I went to get my DS Lite from GAME the other day I was stood there prepared to pay for the console itself and a full price copy of Mario Kart. Then, the counter bloke takes me to the complete other side of the shop and points out some offer which'd result in me paying £20 less as you'd get one game (like Brain Training) almost free. I'm personally prepared to spend that bit more for something I really want as opposed to just getting something else because it's cheap, so I didn't bother. But still, I was surprised to see them going out of their way for what I assume would result in less dosh for the shop. Which brings me back to my original question: what do they get out of this?
  4. I'm guessing a lot of people have had scratching problems since the DS Lite manual is full of "DO NOT USE A THIRD-PARTY STYLUS" warnings, which while you'd expect to see anyway, seemed a little emphasised. They seem to stock a load of them in GAME, so fortunately I have somewhere to go should I lose both of the standards.
  5. DS Lite

I got a DS Lite with Mario Kart yesterday. Fuck me — what a game. As if having all the stuff such as rotating protective triple shells and the ability to jump from the older Mario Karts mashed into an almost perfect new blend along with a new selection of awesome weapons and maps wasn't enough, the bringing back of what I presume is 16 great maps from the SNES/N64/GC/GBA Mario Karts just throws it up to a whole new level. I've only got access to half of what I'm expecting to have by the end of it (since there's four whole cups greyed out in addition to the four I've already got), and I'm already overwhelemed with excellence. I'm really enjoying the missions game mode too, with the boss of the first 'world' being that giant bob-ombesque thing from Mario 64. I can't wait until New Mario Bros' UK release on the 30th, and am planning on getting that Ace Attorney thing too. A fantastic console.
  6. Steam - Why do you hate/dislike it so much?

Yeah, seriously. I definitely remember Steam being around and used by myself prior to the release of Half-Life 2, and according to Wikipedia it entered active service as far back as 2002 before becoming the official replacement for WON as of 2003. But yeah, every experience I've had thus far with Steam has been really nice. I got the physical copy of Half-Life 2, and installing it was a breeze — I didn't experience any of the extraordinarily long activation delays that others have complained of. I also bought Day of Defeat: Source via Steam, and was ready to go almost immediately. Add to this my ability to easily download and view full screen trailers, get demos of upcoming Steam releases, keep my games up to date, and browse servers. Prior to the system I would have had to install All Seeing Eye to achieve the same server browsing convenience, go to some video site to grab trailers, and sit in a download queue at FilePlanet or something to get patches and demos. How the fuck could that ever be seen as preferable to just using Steam? I have to wonder if those who complain about it ever actually play games, because updating and such for others is far less convenient. Not to mention that games still come with shit server browsers for the most part.
  7. Steam - Why do you hate/dislike it so much?

I thought all the Steam hate had faded out by now for the most part. Sure, it was truly a train wreck back when it was beta software when it debuted years ago, but it's evolved into a comfortable and useful piece of kit as far as I'm concerned. Some people who used it in its early days and haven't really done so since do still cling onto the "STEAM :(" bandwagon, but anyone who's regularly used it in recent times should be able to see that it is almost all good. And, from what I've seen, they do — I rarely witness Steam bitch-outs anymore. It's put an end to the days of having to go to shops to see what games are available and buy them, go to sites to download patches, download third-party software to browse server lists from the desktop, use some other third-party software to track your friends (granted, this has only recently been revamped), and of course having to go to download sites for trailers and demos for upcoming games. As far as the games that choose to use Steam go, anyway. Really, I can't see how anyone could not find the aforementioned a positive step forward, and I can only hope that more developers decide to join up with Steam.
  8. Prey demo

Well it's only 3DR publishing it as far as I'm aware; the development itself is all Human Head. How does the game run? My machine isn't fantastic with its Nvidia 6600gt, AMD 2800+ and 1GB of RAM, and has trouble with stuff as far back as Battlefield 2. I don't think I'll bother if I'll have to run it with shit settings to be smooth.
  9. Monkey Island Music On Piano

    Wtf? Apparent opinion is denied.
  10. A really funny, intelligent joke I made

What's brown and sticky? A stick. lol
  11. Monkey Island Music On Piano

I would completely call the FPS Stan ytmnd amusing. Most of it is shit, though.
  12. Monkey Island Music On Piano

Heh, I've been feeling really tempted to replay MI1 recently. Especially after seeing this and this.
  13. Consolevania 2.6 released

The torrent worked for me. It'll probably let you right click the download and save locally as an alternative, though.
  14. On the word Gamer...

I don't see anything wrong with the term. Life's too short to worry about whether some mainstream media publication thinks I'm a 'gamer' or a 'person', and to worry about it seems pretty lame to me. It's a label, just like early cinema fans were probably dubbed 'film enthusiasts' or something. If it helps to identify me as a fan of the medium, then so be it.
  15. Watchmen

    Pfft, if the accent sounds authentic enough for the Americans... ;
  16. Sensible Soccer 2006

Just as a side note, if you're using a 6600 your performance will actually degrade with the very latest drivers. As with all cards, the drivers tend to concentrate on and be optimised for the latest range, so the older ones suffer for the sake of compatibility. Maybe you'll have better results if you hop back a bit. I use 81.98, and my performance is vastly better in Source engine games as opposed to that with the latest drivers. It's a bit of a gamble as sometimes certain games require specific fixes only found in later drivers, but it's best to stick to those that were from your card's prime if possible. Something to try, anyway!
  17. Half-life 2 - episode one

    Strider legs!
  18. Half-life 2 - episode one

A stalker has its wicked way with Alyx, much to Gordon's dismay. :innocent::innocent:
  19. Watchmen

God. I remember reading and really liking it years ago, but have totally forgot most of what happened in it. Should probably get it again. :~
  20. Can We Save Planet Earth?

We could always just do what they did in Titan AE and make a deployable planet.
