Hahahah. Look back at this statement after watching an episode and try not to laugh.

I couldn't read the second article when you posted it as the link wasn't loading (it looked like it was being slashdotted or something). I should have clarified this, but I was only referring to your first link. I still maintain my desire to see complaints from real-world users of Vista though, because until then all the technical analysis and speculation in the world means nothing. I'm not denouncing your evidence, I just want to hear from people who I can relate to.

That's downright strange then. Perhaps different eyes see it differently? I seriously see a blurry mess both on LCDs and CRTs when looking at ClearType on XP, almost as if seeing double vision (but with a lot of overlap) -- it's on the verge of being unusable. It's this way both on my home and work installations of XP, on completely different monitors and brands, and basically with no common ground between the two set-ups. As a side note, my left eye is fairly weak and I've been told it's subtly lazy by an optician. Most odd.

Hee, superb. Weirdly, XP's font smoothing looks really shit to me and a bit blurry, like I'm using glasses or something. Despite this, I'm using an LCD monitor on its native resolution with the digital cable. The font smoothing in Vista looks great though, despite just being an updated version of the same stuff (and not Apple's supposedly patented thing). It's meant to work pretty badly on CRTs too though, which might be why it's not enabled by default.

Well, I'm not going to get into a lengthy argument about the subject as I don't know enough about it. What I do know, however, is that as a legitimate user (I banned myself from piracy a while ago) I can't recall running into problems once when making use of legitimate content, while when pirating I'd constantly be dicking around with serials, stripping anti-piracy protection, and basically going through a lot of shit. This is why I said I'd rather hear from actual users of Vista whether or not its technologies are problematic, or whether it's just blogger speculation of potential/theoretical problems (that rarely come to fruition) and thoughts from people who most likely don't own Vista and/or have never used it. That's all.

Really bad forum topic title? more like ok time to fucking stop it now
Thrik replied to Spaff's topic in Video Gaming
Indeed. It's a fairly trademark feature from one of the reviewers, who slips it in at the end of a bad review. Mario Smash Football's, for example, was "Mario Smash Football? Mario GASH Football, more like!". It isn't used in every episode, though. I always assumed it was nabbed from there seeing as a bunch of people here watch it. -
I don't know, that seems like a lot of blogger FUD to me. I'd be interested in hearing from actual users of Windows Vista whether or not they're having actual real-world issues, because everyone I've spoken to thus far is fairly or very satisfied with the OS, and the OS ran like a dream when a family member was testing it. It's not like copyright protection isn't all over the place. For example, on modern monitors and TVs you can't use the highest quality inputs (it's HDCP or some shit) unless whatever's sending the signal includes the protection algorithm. That means unless the DVD player or whatever supports the stuff, you'll be downgraded to a shit quality signal. It's sadly a deep part of the modern electronics experience, whether the masses realise it or not. You could boycott anything that uses copyright protection that's more in the interests of copyright holders than consumers, but you'd be missing out on a hell of a lot.

Heeee. :~ I was on the verge of making this thread about a month ago, but I thought I might piss everyone off by calling you all dick heads and condemning your sense of humour. It was initially funny, but the likes of Consolevania (Did you get it from there?) knew to use it sparingly. Enough smelling makes even the sweetest rose smell like the tramps putting their sweaty faces near it. -
Hee. :~ It was actually a copy of another thread that was active at the time.

You can set that font smoothing system wide in desktop properties somewhere. Under effects, I think. Why have you taken so long to move to XP? It's almost seven years old now! As for Vista, I hear it's shit as fuck for gaming right now but that quite a lot of the issue is down to the graphics card drivers -- especially from Nvidia -- being a bit shit. XP game support got good fairly quickly after the initial teething problems though (leading to the "98/ME compatibility mode options being introduced), so hopefully it'll be all right before long.

But yeah, the whole game has really been something else thus far. It's felt a lot more realistic than MGS1 and MGS2, although I guess that's because they had a lot more advanced technology and such. Still, they remain awesome and the whole series now tidily sits towards the top of my 'Best Ever' list. Hopefully MGS4 will hit another high. Incidentally, I only saw the the other night despite having seen the other two and thinking I'd seen it all. The trailer pretty much shows nothing but gameplay, albeit not from the player perspective. Although some of the animations and such look a bit incomplete, it's shaping up really nicely; I don't think I'll dislike playing as veteran Snake at all. And WTF, a young Snake is at the end of the trailer?

Tee, I honestly know nothing about Okami other than that a bunch of people think it's good. I try to avoid any and all hype so I'm not sure at all why it's liked so much. And yeah Miffy, Splinter Cell was all right but I really couldn't enjoy it for long. It's the awesome cutscene breaks from the sweat-inducing stealth gameplay and such that make MGS so special, and when you've got cutscenes that good they become a major motivating factor in getting through the game. It doesn't hurt that the game itself is awesome in every way too. As for the ending:

Man, I forgot to reply to this thread! Thanks guys. I'm going to get Okami at some point, and I reckon a title or two from Aussie's list will be worthwhile. I actually just got near the end of MGS3, and sweet lord what a good game -- I can't believe I didn't get it earlier. I can see how it might be 100% unappealing if you don't like the traditional lengthy cutscenes predominant in MGS games, but I do and I seriously can't think of any game I've enjoyed more since Psychonauts. The gameplay is far better than its predecessors thanks to the much improved hand-on-hand stuff and also the generally higher level of depth to everything, the soundtrack is astounding, the graphics have to be amongst the best of the last generation, the characters and especially the later bosses awesome, and the whole ending sequence which I'm mostly through is superb. Anyone on the edge about playing it clearly must do so immediately as once you get past the "Wtf is all this jungle shit?" stage (that's what I thought at first, anyway) you'll probably love it. Plenty of indoor action too, just in case you were wondering. I feel like I've gotten my PS2's money's worth from this game alone.

Ocarina of Time? More like Cock Arena of Slime... spoilers

Pretty much why I consider Dawn of War one of the best RTS games ever, and apparently Company of Heroes is up there too. You're so much more immersed when you've got a detailed squad of blokes in front of you and some big, dirty, fuck-off tanks covering them; games where you're more zoomed out and the individual soldiers are 2mm tall feel distant and like they're isolating me from the battle. I just can't enjoy it as much when you've got a billion soldiers swarming everywhere, even if better players can make it strategic (though more often than not it just boils down to overwhelming with numbers rather than cunning).

Yeah, they should just rename C&C3 to "Kane".
-
Stop signing all your posts you wanker. That's what the signature area is for. But as for Supreme Commander, it's actually bad? There's been a lot of hype about it so I'm kind of surprised you all think it's shank. Not that I'd know as my computer is incapable of running anything beyond Duke Nukem 3D. :~ C&C3 is clearly the one to watch out for though. I mean, a new C&C game set in the original universe is one thing, but also with FMV cutscenes and Kane? Hell, I'd take a cactus up my rectum for that!

Spine popping seems really dodgy to me. :~

Ocarina of Time? More like Cock Arena of Slime... spoilers
Thrik replied to BooJaka's topic in Video Gaming
The fact that the game pretty much looks like ass and has mechanics that're far less fine-tuned than Wind Waker is probably a factor. I was honestly gob smacked when I gave Ocarina of Time a spin last year. My mind's eye remembered the game as looking much like Twilight Princess, as the graphics were indeed very engaging back in 1997 or whatever when it came out. I reckon this is the case for a lot of people, and for newcomers I'm surprised they can get their head around the visuals at all. Wind Waker is fairly unique in that it has graphics that'll never age substantially, while Twilight Princess is sadly going to suffer just as badly as Ocarina of Time I think. One advantage of being a fan of old 2D adventure games with superb artists. -

Honestly, these god damn thread titles. The whole "more like" thing is great and all, but talk about driving a joke a million miles into the ground and then throwing a load of sharks down on top of it. At least the Consolevania dudes knew not to use it in every single episode. As a general rant against everyone, mind! -
Superb Met. Soon we can all share the misery of web working with clients, even if they're your employer.
