They said it's not been announced, as in it's a game that's never been announced. Brutal Legend has been announced. Also, see the post above.
-
I don't block ads because those ads do directly give the sites I enjoy income. On occasion one will genuinely intrigue me, or I'll accidentally click one.
-
Yeah, I was talking about the endless ones that do have the 95 skin out there — I still frequently encounter them, which is just ridiculous. This one is indeed just a bastardised XP skin. The date is just one of the reasons I felt obligated to post it.
-
And while we're on the subject of ads, is an admin planning to actually do anything about these relentless spamming fucks at some point? I have to admit it's actually starting to grate me now when I get a new post notification in a thread I've posted in and it's yet another cunt. Shit like this kills communities, yo'.

It is mental. Pretty much any twat could see that Brutal Legend is perfect for the current market place realities and underlying economic considerations, with Guitar Hero and Rock Band bringing people into the genre that aren't even normally particularly interested. There's never been a more perfect time for such a metal-orientated game.

I can't be bothered repeating myself so just check out the Mojo news post's comments. :~

That's good news, Nappi.  (Someone make a positive equivalent of )

I can't see them just abandoning all those games. Apparently Ghostbusters had a big presence at Comic Con, and the others have been pretty widely publicised, anticipated, and far into development. I've heard of publishers retiring IPs and individual games plenty of times, but never a plethora of them that're still in heavy development. They must be planning on doing something with them. I'm beginning to suspect they may have a plan that doesn't involve casting off those games at all, such as a deal with one specific publisher who'll be handling them all, or perhaps one of the existing Activision Blizzard subsidiaries. The games being cancelled is only speculation at this point, after all. It seems weird that only a week or so ago Schafer said he'd never been approached to re-pitch his game to Activision Blizzard.

There're a few posts here: http://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5727&page=2 But just now, some mysterious guy with one post has left this on the Double Fine forums: ... which I guess means that it'll be Double Fine themselves shopping this off to publishers rather than Activision if that intellectual IP comment is correct — it's bloody Psychonauts all over again. The upside is that nobody else can develop it other than Double Fine themselves, whereas if Activision owned the IP they could theoretically dole it off to any fuckers.
-
The only positive note is that the other Activision Blizzard properties in limbo are very high profile and pretty much cash cow licenses, not to mention games reaching the latter end of development, so they'd be completely mental if they weren't already proactively trying to shop them off to other publishers. It's not quite like Psychonauts which was a little-known quirky game from an unproven studio, although you really have to feel for Double Fine having now had this happen twice.

Man... that Thumbs site was a great place.

I'm going to throw out a totally uneducated guess and speculate that if you consistently fake another accent, you will eventually modify the way you talk. Everyone can fake another accent, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine that if you forced yourself to fake another accent all the time you'd eventually begin to use it automatically. It'd be difficult though, and you'd probably have to apply the same accent faking to your non-spoken thoughts too (We all think with an accent in our heads, right?). Maybe that's all these accent modification tutors teach. Heck, perhaps doing it regularly and not all the time is enough to make changes. In reality, the vast majority of people will never put such effort into changing their accent and might even feel stupid doing so, thus why it seems so difficult — and yet easy if you're shown that this what you need to do.
-
I'd imagine you pretty much do need to fake a particular accent, which would obviously be the one of your area if you were to immigrate. You then fake it until you make it, as they say. Accents are formed by habits and influence, so faking those habits is presumably all you can do if you're not actually living in a particular area. Just go for a relatively unpronounced accent though, rather than one of the strong ones (ie: avoid very northern or very southern for UK, dunno about the US but I'd imagine you wouldn't want to try and emulate southern). My own East Midlands accent fits that bill fairly well.

So, Telltale is doing Wallace & Gromit, how about that ?
Thrik replied to vimes's topic in Video Gaming
I definitely anticipate it a lot. Telarium (now programming the TTG engine it seems) mentioned in Mojo's comments that we'll be impressed by the engine's progress: ... so that's a promising sign. Obviously he's a developer, but you don't go promising stuff like that to an audience like Mojo lightly. ; -
Metal Gear Solid 4 - Guns of the Saucer Men From Mars
Thrik replied to Cigol's topic in Video Gaming
Man, these older MGS games have become rare quickly. I remember getting a new copy of Twin Snakes about a year ago just because my old one was lost, and had no problems ordering it online new a year ago from Play.com: Now it's bloody £66 from Play.com, and that's through a reseller. Same for Subsistence, which I got just before Christmas. Crazy, and you'd think they'd sort new copies out considering the release of MGS4 which is bound to trigger loads of people wanting to catch up. -
I don't think they're including all of them, but yeah.

There's an even more tasteful picture and video in there now. ;

Hahaha, oh man. What a dire island we have. It is quite impressively put together though, and I can very easily see this becoming a mega hit with the younger side of the internet. I know my sisters would love this, and there're limitless adolescents and stuff who totally lap up things like this, Habbo Hotel, etc. Props to Google, but not something I can see keeping me interested for long.

As I said though, it's just a random bit of gameplay taken with shakycam. Duke 3D had loads of areas which could have easily been the equivalent of this. I think in the grand scheme of things it's practically meaningless when it comes to gauging what type of environments the game will feature.
-
At the end of the day though, it's just a tiny clip that could be from any part of the game. Bear in mind that Duke 3D also had lots of environments like this, not only in the areas where 'real-world' indoor areas had been overrun by aliens (that appears to be what's depicted in the footage above), but also in the entire chapter set in space. Considering that the 2001 iteration of Forever had loads of city footage, and it real-world setting was one of the strongest aspects of Duke 3D, I really can't imagine them scrapping it.

So, I suppose you've all heard about the pyro news...
Thrik replied to Scrobbs's topic in Video Gaming
To be honest I don't think they're that bad. I regularly play as Pyro as well as other classes, and it's not as easy as it seems to annihilate people who know what they're doing. The critical problem is that Pyros still have to get close to deal any real damage, which immediately gives most other classes an advantage. Just like before, if a Pyro can't ambush you it's rather easy to take him out. Unless they're a particularly good Pyro that is, but then most aren't. It works wonders if you frequently check behind yourself for approaching Pyros (something I do out of habit anyway for Spies) and ensure you deal as much damage as possible to any incoming Pyros (if you're a Heavy the shotgun should be your primary weapon unless you have the element of surprise). By the time they're even close enough to flame you they should have lost three quarters of their health, and even a quick melee will finish them. -

The popular ones certainly have. If you use a more customised version like I have though (ie: weird font with plenty of overlapping bits, colour, size), the bots aren't written to break it and so it remains largely effective. I've only had a few spams in the past year, and I'm fairly sure they were manual. -
I don't think it looks that much like Prey, other than having alien stuff. When I think of Prey I basically just think of a brighter version of Doom 3, while the footage above seems to be in a more real-world environment as you'd expect from Duke. Some classic Duke 3D weapons are used, which again make me think of Duke and not Prey. Beyond that most FPS games look superficially similar so it's hard to criticise it for looking reminiscent of another. One of the big things for Duke 3D was that it had lots of nice open city areas, so I'll be extremely disappointed if they don't do that in Forever too. Thematically Forever could still be interesting. PS: I assume you mentioned Prey because of the 3D Realms links. It might be worth clarifying that 3DR only published Prey, and that Human Head developed the actual game. It was also on the Doom 3 engine (ID Tech 4), whereas Forever is on Unreal.

Here's the actual DNF gameplay footage for anyone who didn't see it (I forget if it was ever posted on bums or not): http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/226616.html
