That headbanger garbage that passes for 'music' sucks. It ruined the otherwise otherworldly exoticism of the game's atmosphere. -

I'm not really taken that much with the new combat moves, either. But then the demo seems to pimp just that, the hot arse 'coolness' of it. Who knows? Maybe the full game will reveal a wealth of opportunities for story and exploration? But if the demo were an overarching indication of what the full game will offer then I think it's lame. -

On hardest setting? With absolutely no in-game saves allowed and no walkthrough? -

I got the demo too. WTF happened to the controls? I can't move the camera around with the mouse anymore. SoT was far more intuitive, and it doesn't seem like the the WW scheme is that much more complicated that they should sacrifice the very nice mouse/keyboard scheme of SoT for it. It's retarded. Oh, and can someone please help me with my gamepad? I have a Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual thingie and for some reason the driver doesn't get recognized, etc., by my system. It tells me there's an 'unrecognized' hardware plugged into USB but it won't hook up with the installed drivers (which I had updated after uninstalling the original drivers the gamepad came with). Thanks! -
An Abuse of Basic Human Rights (in Doom 3, apparently)
Intrepid Homoludens replied to Salka's topic in Video Gaming
Well, I finally played the damn demo. Aside from having to do so at 'basic' graphics settings .... ..... I thought ultimately it was okay. Pretty standard. Having to switch b/t flashlight and weapon was at first 'cute' but then it got pretty stupid, and I couldn't help think how moronically cosmetic, artificial, and cheap it was for the designers to create suspense this way. How 'imaginative' of them. I think it would have been more effective if they had the zombies and beasties far tougher and come at you NOT EVERY FIVE FOOKING SECONDS, but randomly and far less frequently so that you have no idea. Play up the tension, man, by having you hear them before seeing them. But as it is, it's just too..... I dunno, conventionally 'scary'. Scary isn't even the right word to use here. And to Rusalka. I don't see the beef of your problem, man. The levels were designed according to the entire experience as a game, not as a freaking blueprint for an actual Mars facility! With all due respect, now that I think about your little rant in this light .......... And Trep's final thought: "Doom 3 will be purchased by me once it goes for really cheap (as cheap as its boo! funhouse scares) and when I finally have the proper rig to run it at highest settings." -

Walter and Rodi, you two need to play a couple levels from Hitman: Codename 47 before continuing this discussion. -
Air babies? Are those the latest narcotics or something? Dooooon't tempt me.

E.M., WTF are you on?!!

Not til next year, Mr. Psychonutcase.

Well that must suck for that woman. I mean, she could just have been fooking the ugliest people on earth and had no choice in it 'cause she was fast asleep. I prefer fooking while awake, myself.

Right. This is when saving options truly become part of the gameplay, like it or not. But also it could easily expose the shortcomings of a game, like A.I. for example. In No One Lives Forever you automatically fail certain missions if you are merely spotted by NPCs, so I found myself saving every five seconds. However, this was fixed in NOLF2, so I didn't need to save as often, and I felt more 'into' the game that way. But in a game like Hitman: Codename 47, absolutely no in-game saves can fook with you. It may infuse the gameplay with heart pounding suspense, but if you screw up (or the telephone rings and disrupts you), you'd have to play the whole thing again from the start, and the momentum is ruined the second time around. -
WTF are you on, wormsie?

I disagree. It's still ultimately my responsibility, as long as I have the option of choosing. I am not gonna blame the designer just because I felt the obligation to save every five seconds, not matter how 'rational' that may be in the face of ruining my immersion. That's the deal with having choices, you weigh the pros and cons. Especially with the sophistication of today's games. This is what I love about Hitman 2. On the easiest setting you have unlimited saves, on medium you have 2 saves, on hardest absolutely no saves. You decide how suspenseful you want it to be, and how masterful you want to be. -
Ah well. Thanks, bigstud.

What happened to Fahrenheit, Marek? It's supposed to be out next month. And there's Call of Cthulhu! Or is that coming out next year?

Ultimately it should be up the players themselves. No one is forcing you to save every five seconds, and conversely no one should force you to have to look for save points 20 minutes into a level because wife/mum/kids just came home and it's time for dinner, etc. A combination of autosaves and optional in-game saves would be good. But like I stated, it would be your own damn fault if you kept saving every five seconds, thus ruining your immersion in the game. Discipline your own damn arse, it's not the devs' responsibility to babysit you. -
Oh fess up, you whore! You WISH you were Divine! Just make sure you put the Kingz back in his padded cell wearing his straitjacket before consulting with the Almighty.
