  1. Law & Order takes a stand

I'm confused. Weren't there like 3 Laws and Order games ?! :ponycrap:
  2. Piece of Silence *early spoiler*

There is here something I'm not quite getting : if producers can't hire writers, can't buy some good 3D engines, can't broaden their audience by opening the adventure gameplay to other genre, what will they use to make a game? It seems to me that what you want aren't adventure games that are good but just ... adventure games. Sounds strange to me I never realized that adventure games could be played in such a way and they DO have the potential o gather player around a single game ... except that this is not a perfect world - is it ? - : as a kid and moreover as a teenageer, I wasn't willing to play with my parents : brothers, sisters and friends were welcome but parents? No. And I feel like I'm not the only one in this case. It's a rebellion thing , I think. Adventure games 'more timeless' that any other genre ? How come ? Anyway, I don't think there is a market for the re-released adventure games outside the small community of fans who can find the goodness of the game hidden behind old graphs. I might be of those - even if I wouldn't buy 'lazy' re-released games- but I'm not convinced that gamers bred with GTA3, Halo or HL2 would do such a move and the ones old enough to make the effort don't necessarily play games anymore. I don't understand why Full-3D adventure games haven't flourish the last 3 years: there are some good 3D engines licensed under GNU Lesser Public License - like Ogre - that display quitegood graphs while allowing an adventure game gameplay. No money needed and time saved for real development.
  3. Tim's Beard Speaks

Yeah, not only Kevin Smith is a hilarious himself ( see 'An Evening with Kevin Smith' to realize that) but he's also a good actor and one of the best comedy writer around. Yet, it's true that he's a very, very common director...
  4. Advent Rising

You know what? I wish I wasn't living with myself. I'd like to be that guy who says he has a garden within him to which he flee. He also says there are severed heads on the fences.
  5. Advent Rising

Sorry guys, I hate to be the voice of doom and I'd be the first one to be happy if each and every choice of Majesco was as intelligent as the Psychonauts' one.... but, hell, I don't see anything in this game that would mean it's outside the norm of action games : - art/design : meh, but who cares? - 3D engine : meh too - story : a trilogy... ( why god, isn't the number 2 good enough anymore ?) based on a guy acquiring suuuupperrrrpower. Girls with 'blop-blop' tits. Ah - and some ET too. - gameplay : bullet-time, big monsters throwing rocks, running around or jumping into vehicles *sight* Am I blind or the only thing that might be great - and it's shown only a little in the various gameplay videos - is the violent hand-to-hand combat in which you can, for example, crawl on the back of a huge monster and break is neck. This is quiet a cool move. And I hate marketing people using the word epic just because it sells. Ah, in fact I think I just discovered I dislike marketing people in general. I think I'm going to realize in a few hour that this post definitely defines me as an unenthousiastic prick
  6. Tim's Beard Speaks

erm.. yeeeees... what does that mean ?
  7. Tim's Beard Speaks

Now that he has grow a beard, the guy makes me thinks more and more of Kevin Smith : as humouristic, as charismatic, having nearly the same silhouette and now the same grown-up trophy. You should check 'An Evening with Kevin Smith' it's mind blowing. Yeah, those beard guys tends to be geniouses...except for the 'Space Battles' one, not anymore.
  8. Scrapland

I've played the demo for a while now - yeah, I suck at games, it takes me ages to finish one and sometimes even demo seems endless to me- and I don't know what to think. On one hand, the design is really awesome and most of the background ideas - the reborn and 'incarnation' systems- are great; however, in the demo, the game is incredibily slow as soon as you get inside and several chracters are involved and maniability is...akward : the mouse+keyboard comobo is fine during the 3rd-person sequences but it is a real pain in the ass for the chases or race aboard the ships. How does it look like in hte final game ? ...and the french voice actors suck. Hard. All of them.
  9. Oddworld Stranger's Wrath

It's strange how the association of words from a foreign language can sounds and feel 'cool' despite the fact that the whole meaning is cheezy. I like "Stranger's Wrath" and I like "The Warrior Within"... it gives the impression that the game is filled with patent rage and mystery. *Meh* you should see how these titles are translated in french : it's
  10. Psychonauts on pre-order!

Yeah, this makes the release date of Psychonauts seem much nearer... wait... now, the problem is the money.. Darn, time to reactivate my connection in the underground manatee fights community.
  11. Yeah, that looks like me in ravenholm... I was always trying to spot were the hell was Gregori when I heard him talking, the result was I tend to go the wrong way, couldn't spot the weird zombies coming from other buildings and ended up having heart attacks each time I heard his russian accent. MMmmmMm, in fact, I just entered Nova Prospekt and I'm a bit tired of seeing people die with only a push of a button, so I don't thoroughly search for environmental traps anymore.
  12. Coolest prop

Google might , one day, become your friend. Anyway, RedDwarf is a "low budget" scif-fi serie with a very Douglas Adam Kind of humour. It's fun. But not so much.
  13. Wanda and the Colussus

I never played ICO... never had the chance to ... maybe that's why I don't have the slighiest bit of enthusiasm raising in my veins as I read/wtach things realted to this new game. Even if the trailer gives a very ' Miyazaki' feel - well, more like a Joe Hisaishi feel, in fact - I'm not quite getting what the gameplay and other unimportant things like that will look like.
  14. The Future of adventure games?

Okay folks, I got a dilemna here. I don't own a fucking current-generation phone - the nickname of mine is "The Refrigator"- and hell, I'm not interested in buying one, I'm not even interested in playing games on this kind of "console". Nothing to torn my twisted and wicked personnality apart in there but here is the twist : I'm really interested in the project because it's ambitious and narratively speaking, this could represent something really interesting (imagine a game in which character are as deep research as, let's say, any main character of the serie The Shield?) ... so "Certainly Interested" eve if not a future consumer ?
  15. Creepy.

It' strange, right here in France, no media talked about "the Swastikas, the Star of David, Celtic Symbols" even though a campaign again racism is going on in reaction to many profanations and neo-nazi actions. Anyway, the secret underground cinema idea is really cool.
  16. Splinter Cell 3

Approximatively translated by me from the french mag Joystick
  17. Fame and Fortune for The Thumb

    This seems disturbingly familiar...
  18. Academia, gaming, blablabla

Yeah, that's right bring back the motherfucking goose! More seriously, Idle Thumbs article are truly excellent - maybe the best around - but, is it me or half the time you feel obliged to put some fuck or "bad words" to give the whole a cool attitude?
  19. The Grand List of Console RPGs Cliches

I'm quite unaware of the money sides of creating video games so I'm asking this hnestly : does making an good adventure gme costs as much money as - or more than - any other good game from any other genre ? If so, why ?
  20. I had a dream...

Okay, there, my argumentation got screwed. My point is that KotoR is an excellent game, but to be an indeniable masterpiece, I think that it should have given a better a feeling of being in a huge universe. As it is now, I've got the slight impression to go from level to level.. damn, the plot, as good as it is, is linear to the core, so could it have been impossible to present a seamless environment for each planet? And, no the first Soul Reaver is not "much more actiony than KOTOR"... you'll admit that playing KotOR you fight a lot...but if I remember well, the first Soul Reaver wasn't as actiony as that, was it ? There were a lot of puzzles but only a few combat.
  21. I had a dream...

Soul Reaver does it, Ultima IX does it... why not KotoR ?
  22. Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash

This rumor has been flying around for months.
  23. I had a dream...

You can't be good and rich... you have to know that : KotOR is right now teaching you one of the most important rule of life. It's a reminiscence of former gameplay design(before the Xbos Dev) that was never implemented, so... no, you can't by parts... the thing is to have a perfect timing... it has happened to me once. This was enough.
  24. Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash

Apparently this is all bullshit. Campbell has declared on his website that he hasn't been contacted and that Sam Raimi isn't even close to allow Fox to use the Evil Dead Licence he owns.
  25. I had a dream...

Ah... you meant that... then, I must getback on my words and agree with you here.... a bit. I sure did have the feeling of being always "trapped", limited inhte environments... you know, even in the desert on Tattoine, they put visual boundaries that said "This is the end of the zone, be prepared for a loading session". I think that the game would have gained a lot if they had put seamless level[ I don't know if this means what I intended to] And also, even if there were hills, there wasn't any environment that was physically demanding for the characters... Fake climbing or jumping ala BGE would have dynamise the game.. if it needed such thing.
