  1. An article for your perusal

I really don't get the concept of preordering...I mean, it's not like a beta test or having your game before every body... it's just having your game at the ime every body else have... and I can't seem to find a studio in which I have so muc confidence that I would buy their products blindfolded. Even now I'm hesitant over preordering Fahrenheit. One thing that also suprises me a lot is that lots of you guys are still buying in retail store; I've been through too much shit and too much overhigh price to continue buying brand new titles in those stores, so i'm buying games on the net. What kind of stores do you have in your country ? On a not-so-related note, i must say I'm not quite famliar with the term ' hardcore gamer' .. I mean, what is this all about ? Is this about the amount of game your playing ? Is it about the time you're spending on a single game ? Is it related to your gaming skill? I mean, watching movies there's, like, two distinct categories of people : cinephile and cinevore. The first one as a very good knwoledge of cinema and movies in general and tend to analyse what he likes, dislikes and consciously choose what he watches. The cinevore is someone who literaly feeds on movies : he will be glad to watch any garbage or masterpiece he can put his hand on, just for the sake of watching a movie he doesn't know. What I'm trying to say is that I can't seem to find my place in the current description of the gaming market : I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer, but I'm not quite a casual gamer because my preference goes to games that don't appeal to the big market. Also, I think that the hardcore gamer and the mainstream audience are, right now, two names for the same kind of customer : when you listen to producer talking about UT2007 targetting the hardcore gamers, they probably mean to flatter the mainstream audience by saying they view them as 'hardcore gamer'. .. or I'm not getting this 'hardcore gamer' thing at all.
  2. Minority Report style glove

Last year, in the course of a computer science project, I decided to use a dataglove with vibrator attached to a 3D captor... the problem was to find a kind of application in which the use of a glove would clearly bring an added value. Believe le it's hard, because, as much as I fancy this kind of device, 90% of the application would be far easier to use with a mouse and a keyboard. The original purpose of the team I worked with was to create a" Minority Report' application but, in the end, manipulating data in a 3D environment with a mouse is far easier and also more user-friendly... The only intelligent use of that device was to include it in a VR application that would help behaviour therapists in making their patient grow more 'confident' with the physical symptoms of their phobias ( vertigo, arachnophobia, boulimia)... Well, that was a wondeful idea but I was the only guy who had computer science background, I was named project leader and I sucked at this task so the project was a disaster... nice idea though*sigh*
  3. Rockstar Presents the Warriors

If the orginal is such a great movie why would you crave for a remake ?

  5. Thumb! Thumb! Thumb! reviews

Armed & Dangerous Good design, character wrtiting , wonderful music and .. fucking great weapons The humor within the cutscenes is...well... not that successfull. Your useless companions. The gameplay? What is wrong with the writers?! There's hardly any link between the cutscenes and the mission! And oh, the french translation and acting is very bad. [like they turn the "turn them into french" joke into " turn them into english"... that isn't funny anymore ] Ring 2 Druillet & Wagner.. waou! Can't make it work after the installation ... even if the box says " Runs on XP "
  6. The Swordmen Game(Prince of Persia3;o)

    Like... alien style ?
  7. The Swordmen Game(Prince of Persia3;o)

You realize Sands of Time was very good and it was developed by Ubisoft Montreal, right ?
  8. Memo

Did I really leave the sweet comfort of my research routine at the M.I.T. for this job ? It's not that it isn't interesting - opening the gates of Hell is making my day - it's just that I don't blend with the rest of the team : these guys are always talking about the same things - incident in block D, the death of that old comrade - like I wasn't there and if I try to sneak into the conversation, they give me that blank stare, you know, they look at me like a cow looks at an upcoming train - and... and... I couldn't bear it anymore. So, two days ago, I decided to post a memo - which they seem to enjoy writing in their spare time and even during the hours of work - about the sliding doors being dangerous and the little trick you have to know in order not to get stuck. I mean, not everybody know that you have to walk slowly until the door begins to open and then run to the other side... Well, the memo wasn't a complete success... most of them begin to enjoy their conversation while being stuck and giving the blank look....only this guy, Hector - or Heucumène - Lecter from the Mind Sanity Center, came to see me after that. He's a bit uptight but smarter than the other and he gave me that nickname - "Mardi Gras"... that came from ... something like he was going to have me for dinner at this precise day... yeah, the guys here have a weird sense of humor. Like, yesterday morning, one pushed me down the elevator shaft. I wasn't really upset... you know, I wasn't armed and that coulda been a accident; but now, I'm worried about the dozen corpses I landed on. Jeez, I'm going to have to tell the boss about this; but I'm feeling like I'm always interrupting his "All-you-can-eat" barbecue feast. -James Lamargue
  9. Broken Sword 4 annouced!

Yeah, I know that... but, I have to say, I really hate everything about George Stobbart. From his humor to his flegmatic reactions... He's not a 3rd person character I can care about and he isn't shallow enough so that i can fill his personnality with whatever I want. I find this character badly defined : he's not a hero, not an anti-hero and he doesn't have the depth of, says, Gabriel Knight that would make him believable.
  10. So,

Scoop! MechaGoose's Reaction to Spakster Birth!
  11. Broken Sword 4 annouced!

No. They are trying to be funny. Emphasis on trying.
  12. Okay.. which on is which 'cause I'm feeling confused. And best sauce ever ever is "oignons-crystallized-with honey". Works with everything.
  13. Broken Sword 4 annouced!

I'm not a big fan of the BS serie... those games always felt so unfunny to me, it was pathetic; it seemed like the game was firing at me tons of ammos loaded with unleashed humor and missed each shot. The last one was also very disappointing, mainly because the world seemed to only contain elements needed to solve the puzzle you were stuck at [no 's' for puzzle because you only encountered one problem at a time] ... the consequence was that going through the game was rather a matter of finding the hidden object that would unlock the situation than being intelligent or smart. The dialogs amazingly lacked of depth, like, you could only talk to people about what was the matter at hand... once you had extracted the piece of information they were supposed to deliver, there wasn't anthing to do with them... Anyway, BS4 announcement interest me only because, BS3 was the first Full-3D adventure game [if you forget the "out-of-body experience" provided by GKIII - quite good, but strange], and I wonder what kind of gameplay they are going to use now... I know I'm hoping for a GTA kind of universe.
  14. BFME2 - Another reason to hate EA!

I understand the concerns of the fan about developers keeping the integrity of the books' content when adapting them into games but... who cares about spider or wolves riders? It's not like they had thrown the Nazis into the LOTR plot , right ? What I mean is that, I think there ha been enough into paperbased games of LOTR to allow publisher to take a few - or, that is what I wished for - a LOT of freedom with the original content. Let's make Goblins ride enslaved Hobbits!
  15. And I say NO ... just buy it : Psychonauts is awesome enough to make anyone who got a mere interest in the game buy a copy for 50$ (or 29$ on PC)... and the one who bought Advent Rising should repent by buying Psychonauts twice. I say.
  16. Seen any good movies lately?

Mmm, you need to see Omohide PoroPoro aka Only Yesterday, this anime is even beyond the title "best anime ever"; it is just one of the greatest movie of all time. No kidding. Takahata kicks Miyazaki ass ... and gods knows, how I love Miyazaki's works.
  17. This is awesome; I knew the guy's former stunts but that one is the greatest of all. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4748063.stm
  18. Quakecon 2005

Yeah, so next I 'll go "AAAAHHHHHH SUPPERRRBBBB". Or not. I played Quake III a lot when it was released and it was cool, I really liked the gameplay even if I wasn't what you can call a good player... The thing is : I don't understand how can people wait for another Quake... emphasis on another : you're saying it yourself - and I get that - the gameplay hasn't changed a lot from Quake II and that's why people keep on going back to those games... then, why if, as you say, gamers like the gameplay so much they are turning the art off, why do they wait for the next installment ? Because grenades and rocket are affected by bumpers ? Because the game will feature better graphics which , if I get your point, won't be seen by the real gamers ? Isn't there a gazillion mod that inserted more intelligent gameplay ideas since the release of the third opus ? So don't go saying that, because I'm not welcoming this announcement with unleashed enthusiast, I don't have grounds for my opinion.
  19. Quakecon 2005

I can't understand how people can be enthusiastic over the announcement another Quake. And about the quality, one can guess it's pretty low because Quake IV is multi-platform oriented and Microsoft made the 720p an obligation for every game developed on XBOX 360... and so, the high resolution is paid with less effects and so on to keep the Frame rate correct. And, on a related note, I don't think God exists because if so, it wouldn't have let the art director and character designers at ID kept jobs after Quake II, Quake III, Doom III and now Quake IV... I mean, the art sucks, right ?
  20. Cheating eh?

And a computer can't break apart this way... or the guy isn't aware of what a screw is. Anyway, that's fun.
  21. San Andreas (PC)

I played San Andreas until I had the whole territory unlocked... then, I stopped going through the main plot. Right now, my great pleasure is to load the game in Las Venturas, get a motorcycle and ride around in the desert teasing the police in the desert while listening to WCTR and mainly all the radios. I play for 15 minutes or so and, I don't know why, this makes me feel relax.
  22. BFME2 - Another reason to hate EA!

Yeah Façade kind of game in which you have manage the lunatic behaviours of a bunch of dwarves and a wizard on pot. Oh, the fun. I can't wait.
  23. F.E.A.R. demo out and stuff.

Yeah but then, how do you justify the presence of a little girl running around in factory while laughing ?
  24. do zombies have to pooh?
