There's something touching and disarming about japanese game designers and developers : they see their craft as something very easy and very staightforward. When they talk about making games, they sound like painters who just have to get an idea and then begin painting... technical difficulties or rationnalisation don't seem to be issues for them. Maybe that's why they are the only ones who dare to begin development based on what might sound like a stupid / simplistic gameplay idea... and maybe that's why the are the only creators who can print their nationality/personnality in their games. [i.e. one can spot at first sight if a game is japanese or not... I think.] Western developers could use that kind of state of mind.

No, that was useful. useful in some way I'm still trying to figure out but still, useful. I think you're right and we'd like to make something in the line of Orisinal but I don't think I have the artistic skills to do that.

" Alternative games? Games you ignore (licenses, kid's games). Game Boy Micro? Why? Why games feel irrelevant?" WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?! If you're so convinced that games suck just stop playing. Jeez.
-
I don't know why but any result scares the hell out of me.
-
I think that you are wrong netmonkey when you say that games suck because "game developers are nothing more than nerdy software engineers". I think we all agree here to say that the content of a game is determined by a game designer or a producer... if you check in those guys' background you won't see software engineers. Some games sucks because there's a million reasons for projects to fail and only a fistful reasons for them to succeed. That's all. The way you put it is amazingly stupid. Sidenote-> Spaff, I have been wondering for a while : is your cap key broken or what?

Because when you touch a screen you don't quite see the screen anymore ?

A french FPS set in an apocalyptic world in which war is artificially maintained to allow Weapon Corp. to grow more money. At core, I am not an FPS fan. And I'm not nationalist a bit.But that demo is good. I mean, in terms of gameplay, it must be the most revolutionnary game in the genre since... since.. whatever. http://www.nofrag.com/fichiers/bos/demo/1108/Bos_SP_Demo_Setup.exe The character design is more than ususpicious and it's awfully linear but, hey, give it a try. PS : Starship Troopers Demo sucks some much I nearly had an orgasm. I said nearly.

Nobody tried this demo ? Erf, too bad...

The 'tone' (?) of the game is really attractive but I can't decide if the art direction is brillant or over-crappy. I mean, the 2D artworks are good, the main idea is good but look at those 3D models, they are

I don't intend to do my know-it-all but you must give huge credits to Marc Caro on the film he co-directed with Jeunet : The Bunker of the Last Shots, Delicatessen and City of the Lost Children. It really is him who create the visual of those movie while Jeunet took care of the actor and the directing part. To me Delicatessen is the best of Jeunet's movie - even better than Amelie -because Caro's tormented touch adds a lot to the mood of the movie and to the romantic plot. This is truly a masterpiece AND Pineau best performance. And, oh, I didn't really like A Very Long Engagement because the movie is quite pointless and though visually astonishing, don't provide interesting characters. I would recommend you two things : Memories of Murder a cop comedy that turns into a thriller that turns into a drama... to sum it up, it's a fucking brilliant movie with over-the-top performance. Far better than any other Asian flick - Old Boy included. If you can, get your hands on the anime " Now & Then - Here & There" which is maybe the most disturbing and most crude anime ever that has the guts to give a terrible insight on modern war. Don't mind the first episode which is is used as a contrast to the 12 other episodes : it's crude, thought provoking and some segments are nearly unbearables in term of what they don't tell but is there.

I heard they were seriously thinking to skip that. To me, that would be a good decision 'cause the character of The Joker has already been treated successfully (ah-ah*) once before and there's plenty of other interesting villains to work with. *this is an attempt at being funny. If that doesn't work take it as an attempt at being clueless. If that doesn't work... just forget it. Please.

Let's blame video games, I say! video games and Canada! Having said that, I think that the people who happened to live there and who went wild are far scarier than Bush... the guy can't be held responsible for the event but he sure can't escape the fact that his acts didn't go to disminishethe consequences of it, on the contrary. Still, I wouldn't be suprised if he escaped, the majority of any population tending to be less intelligent than the average.

I don't hate it... I'm just mad at the price. DS seems a fine console but still, I can't afford it.
-
Yeah but ... 150 freakin' euroz! Jeez, I don't have that kind of money to spare... and if I had I would buy a kidney instead.

That sounds like Dutch. Yeah, that's no fun.Erm. Anyway, I've got mixed feelings about those new generation of portables : I though that, in the beginning, portable consoles were made to allow players to fill some tiny holes in their agenda (transport, wait,etc...) by playing easy-to-use games you could enjoy for 5 to 20 minutes and leave them without being frustrated. With new technologies, more elaborate games have come up and ....I think I'm might be losing my point by saying this but, if you say that having more complex games is great, I'd reply that those new technologies have a price and that portable have become more expensive than before. One way or the other, I can't find buying a portable such a good deal : it's expensive but it's not as satisfaying as a full-size gaming system... Pfff, I know that my opinion is unclear but here is a fact : I WOULD buy a portable if it was way cheaper and I wouldn't care much about graphics or complexity as long as it is fun and can fill a hole in my agenda.
-
Is it cheaper than the DS ? And mmm, isn't it too small to be enjoyable?

Until, like, 3 minutes ago, I was convinced that the song Penny Lane was about a girl living in a suburbs and who was named Penny Lane.

MI4 was a good adventure game but fucking horrible as a Monkey Island.

The only censors I have concerning video games are my bank account and the time I allow myself to spend on games. Those are huge restraints and that's why I'm missing 3/4 games that aren't masterpiece but which are worth playing.

I'm far from being a console expert but that is something that really strike me not so long ago : Nintendo developers keep using the same characters but they change the gameplay at each iteration-> Mario Sunshine differs as much from Mario 64 as the latter differs from Super Mario. And to make the audience accept those change is impressive... what's better is that because of the quality they maintained through the gameplay changes, they gained a credibility that allows them to change nearly anything in the gameplay without having the fanbase boo-ing each of their decision. Or so I think.

It didn't meet my expectations.. but maybe it's because I really found hilarious the pitch Chris posted a few days ago and I had strapped myself for unbelivable fun. The beginning made me smile but, meh, I really enjoyed the text from the point Iwata came into play. Nice attempt though. And ... is it me or Allard sound totally like Zaphod Beeblebrox ?

Behold your worst nightmare!

Woohoo, thank to you I'm finally unstuck. Though it took me ,like, 15 attempts to finally succeed... only to be rewarded by the worst Virtua Cop sequence ever. I blame my parents for transmitting the gene of "awful virtual orientation". Is the plot coming at its end or what ? 'cause I'm growing tired of this game...

It's not really worth playing... it's an unbalanced mix between Bioware usual gameplay and the 'Hack, Slash & Crave for XP' Diablo style....and the story is dull. It's too bad because the ending has a nice twist and the background art is wonderful.
