  1. To me, the fact that the first game shown is an FPS reveals that Nintendo is making the western audience its main target for a new console. Am I wrong ? And if not, it's a first, isn't it? It's pretty strange that UbiSoft is making this raher than a studio traditionnally linked to Nintendo and what is even stranger is for them to allow such clichéed japanese background for the game. I would have been lass suprised if they had announced something like Paper Man Still, there seems to be a few interesting ideas that might make the game more interesting than any standard FPS.. even if they could have make the choice of not killing the enemies more subtle. For the sake of gameplay I'm hoping they add some vibrations device to create a real feeling for the weapons.
  2. BS4....Hmmm

I'll let everyone else react to that because it's too bolt to be ironic and too strange to be true. Fire at will, I say.
  3. BS4....Hmmm

Isn't the qualification "point'n'click" entirely and solely related to GUI?
  4. BS4....Hmmm

So... on what grounds do you consider BS3 not to be a point n click game?
  5. BS4....Hmmm

I don't agree with Rodi and Redwall but ,errrr, I am too lazy to find stricking counter examples that would make them beg for mercy. 3D is good, 2D is good... one does different things with these tools, that's all.
  6. French-speaking Idle Forumers!

I am French and , as such, nobody cares what I think. Anyway, last time I was asked to put my nationality to use was 2 years ago... Kingzjester, do you remember ? Oh, the fun.
  7. Google Mars

where's the gigantic head? I can't find the gigantic head!
  8. favorite tv shows

There are 4 american series I'm following :Scrubs - funny but less and less surprising, Boston Legals - just fucking brilliant and hilarious, House - very well written, with more and more emphasis on the secondary characters. It's like The Shield in a hospital. Except the main character isn't bald and doesn't go shouting " Cluberrin' Time!" to make a living. I've discovered The West Wing this yearand it's a delight : I'm watching the serie randomly between the french episodes from whatever season and the current ones. I don't know if the serie is that smart but it sounds so and that feels good. And the bad guy from Heat Vision is starring in it! Last but not least,Kaamelott, a french TV shows whose humor begins to wear off a little bit in this third season. The format is quite different from the american series : it's composed of several 5 minutes sketches based in a fictional Kaamelott... it's not the Monty Pythons at all but it's as funny.
  9. RTS as you've always wanted to play it

The first video is much more interesting than the second and I can't help but fell that for games like Warcraft or Black&White a separated horizontal touch board would be better.
  10. BS4....Hmmm

Just to know : who is happy to see the serie going back to classic point'n'click? In my opinion,if they strictly go back to classical adventure game mecanisms, it is a shame, because as bad as BS3 was, it wasn't because of the interface, it was because it presented no challenge whatsoever apart from finding little objects in dark alleys... and the story was hardly more interesting than a SG1 episode. I wondered what made them take this decision; it's not like the market for strict point'n'click adventure game is a huge one....
  11. Cursing in Oblivion

The game in french is a subtle and long torture... like a 47 hour long advertisement for Nutella with all the out of syn lip-syncs and the tone radically different from one sentence to another. Goddamn you, Take Two why did you take the international version from us? Aren't we worthy enough of getting Patrick Stewart? Oooh, the pain...
  12. Crysis HD quality GDC 2006 trailer

Aouch http://www.nofrag.com/images/00157a.jpg The first trailer was great but the first screens are confusing.
  13. Double Fine got two awards

Meh, another award... doesn't everybody already know that this game is great? Now, if someone had announced that they had sold two more copies of Psychonauts, THAT would have made me happy.
  14. Headsmiley contest, post 'em here

Here are one with the glorious Ancel: An another because the french touch is a stupid idea
  15. Phoenix Wright re-stocked!

I began to played it yesterday I'm in the third case and I must admit I'm hooked. I found myself amazed by me loving this game because it is awfully linear, choices are awfully restricted but I really can't stop, I have to pin that fucking liar down.
  16. Sony's hyperbolic machine strikes again

"...and it is not I, Ken Kutaragi, who you are seeing but one of our most 'live' game for the PS3. And now I shall leave by flying through the roof! Here we gooooooo" Damn, what a nice end for such a man.
  17. Cars

Apparently,Brad Bird took the lead of Ratatouille from Jan Pinkava whose Geri's Game was simply the best Pixar short ever. I think it's a shame because, from the moment Pixar took over Disney, I had hoped Brad Bird would revive the 2D animation studio and because we might not see a Jan Pinkava feature film. And Cars smells bad : I really don't like the design and the story seems to be one of those "guy from the city discovering real life in a redneck town thanks to the help of his new down-to-earth friends" I really can't bear. What is even more disappointing is that Pixar can't seem to escape anthropomorphism.Meh,que sera, sera.
  18. 24 the Game

The most important question remains : can you savagely torture random people ?
  19. Game designer publicity photos

I wonder what stopped Romero from being cast in the D&D movies... I mean him vs a clownesque Jeremy Irons; how could anybody have resisted that?
  20. Hot titles you're waiting for

Yeah that sucks.. this game NEEDS to be published.
  21. The big names in gaming

I would have said Larry Holland and Ron Gilbert but it's not like they have done anything very noticeable these past years.
  22. Knighthoods for three game designers

If only you knew what kind of unremarkable people received the Legion d'Honneur in the last few years...
  23. Just how awesome is the DS Lite?

It's good, very good. It might be the first console I buy. When is it supposed to appear on the european shores ?
  24. Interactive hint games

The entire Myst serie does that well.
  25. In the past few years, I joined a few game projects as coder and/or artist.. but none of them met the end. My first attempt was a game using Quake II engine that didn't even live to see a complete design. Then I worked on an aventure game using the AGAST/morningstar engine and it went quite well until the point I got bored on working with a script engine that didn't give a view on game creation. Finally there were those two VR projects that used 3D and advanced devices but which were so rushed and complex that I didn't really learn anything new in game creation. This year, I finally met a reliable guy to work with and our main goal is to start a project that will enable us to focus on the process of creation rather on the final result. A project that would gave us some bases for bigger, more complex project. Our main interrogation is : what kind of gameplay and technical complexity should we aim for ? We're thinking a 2D game in the trend of Sokoban but, we're in the early stages of design so we would gladly welcome (and need) some feedback on the design, on the methods and APIs to use. I believe that the diversity in taste and experience of the Idle Thumbers would give us a better 'outside view' than what we could find in a developer's forums. So, are those kind of requests welcome here ?
