  1. Math problem

It _is_ the same. Why? Because there is _no_ number so small that you can subtract it from 1 and get a larger number than 0.999... (with those infinite number of nines).
  2. Tropico

I have a copy of Tropico at home, but I never played it much, so I really couldn't give much advice here. But construction offices, food production and homes are always a good start I think.
  3. Sid Meyer's Pirates! trailer and stuff

Ehh, right. Erkki's Law is "There is a law for everything, even those things that aren't bound by laws".
  4. Math problem

0.99999... with an _infinite_ number of nines is _equal_ to 1.
  5. Sid Meyer's Pirates! trailer and stuff

There is no law against playing an older game now you know.
  6. Thief: DS demo, and some questions

Oh, you can't have any guards detect you either? I didn't accomplish that by far. The game is called Thief, not Assassin, so I thought it stupid to go around killing and bonking people. Besides, then you have the bother of going around and hiding the bodies too.
  7. Thief Gold is full of shit

Ok, then. I had the same problems installing the Thief Gold demo on my win2000. That installer (plus the other things) is quite moronic.
  8. Thief: DS demo, and some questions

What? You violent maniac! You don't go up and bonk anyone, you just go around without anyone noticing you (ok, I had two kills and one bonk, but one kill was a mistake and I had no recent savegame and the other was as far as I know a must kill and the bonk was in the training mission and there you had to do it too).
  9. Bomberman

I have never actually played bomberman, only various clones of it.
  10. Thief Gold is full of shit

Just for your knowledge Kingz: XP is NT, NT 5.1 to be exact.
  11. The Geneology of Games

All games are basically just iterations (with enhancements) of pong and chess.
  12. BUY games? what are you, stupid?

Of course you can crack your legal copy, but then you break your license and you are as much an illegal user of the software as the pirate.
  13. BUY games? what are you, stupid?

The biggest problem with buying things I think is that the movies/games you buy in some ways are inferior to the pirated versions. In movies there are the region coding disabling you to play the movie anywhere you like or importing from other parts of the world. With games it's the copy protection that pose much more trouble for those who buy the games than those who pirate it.
  14. Tell Us About Yourself

Hi, my name is Ragnar and I am, well old enough, but not too old and I found these forums because they were here to be found.
  15. Just what ARE you playing right now?

Right now I play (in no particular order): Trackmania Simcity 4 (with Rushhour) Baldur's Gate II F1 Challenge '99-'02 Thief: Deadly Shadows EDIT: Some I forgot: Settlers II Gold Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (I should finish it sometime) Rollercoaster Tycoon (occasionally) Pysol
  16. Ah, Lemmings is sooooo easy.
  17. Ground Control 2 demo out now!

I quite liked the GC2 demo. I haven't played GC1, but the game reminded me somewhat of Cannon Fodder.
  18. Well, I never played it myself, just stated the facts.
  19. I have heard about this, but last I heard, there was something with a closure of a company or something similar and that it is unknown what will happen with that sequel. EDIT: see the last post on this page: http://www.simracingworld.com/news/archives/2003/10/5/#978
  20. Umm, why just 256 colors? Why not 16/32-bit colors? By the way, The Bitmap Brothers did a sequel to Speedball 2 in 2000, called Speedball 2100, which was only for Playstation, but anyway. And you might want to know that there now exists both GBA version and Pocket PC version of Speedball 2. See http://www.bitmap-brothers.co.uk/our-games/present/body.htm And they seem to work on a new Speedball game too, called Speedball Arena: http://www.bitmap-brothers.co.uk/our-games/future/speedball-arena/index.htm Sorry, that seems to have been old news and that game seems to have been cancelled.
  21. I really like Trackmania and I own the game. Besides, I would much rather see a follow up to Stunt Car Racer, the best racing game ever made.
  22. I think TrackMania has some similarities with Stunts.
  23. Settlers

I read the Settlers-preview and I have to say that I am disappointed that it will be even more RTS-like than before. The series has gone downhill since the second game and they seem to be intent on continuing on that path. Settlers I and II was more like a SimCity set in medieval times than an RTS. It was all about economy and build up a settlement rather than conquest and micromanaging units in battle. In fact, you couldn't control any unit at all in the first game and that is the way I like it. It's the building up that is interesting with Settlers (in difference to all these RTS:s), not the tearing down. Now they want to be yet another mainstream RTS with nothing special about it.
  24. Settlers

Yes, S1 and S2 both had cartoony graphics. Just look at the intro movie for Settlers 1. That game is one of my favourite ever. It's sad that noone has been able to make an equally good game (with the same type of game play) with modern graphics.
  25. Settlers

But I love the interconnected logistics, even if deadlocks perhaps should be avoided. The first game also had the roads, so you had to be very careful how you placed your roads so as not to end up in a traffic jam. These sort of thing is missing in the later games. I have no problem with the game being 3D, but I really dislike the RTS game play of click unit -> make him go somewhere etc. All the units should have enough AI as to be able to handle themselves without being directly controlled. I just want the strategy of building an economy, building houses, ordering "conquer enemy units", etc. No direct control.
