I think Strong Bad gets a bad rap for having too many non-adventure parts, but I'd say that it has about as many "arcade" sequences as Sam & Max did. If you didn't mind the driving sequences in Season 2, or Whack-da-Ratz in Episode 3 of Season 1, you should be able to wrap your brain around Strong Bad. There are mini-games in there, too, but a lot of them are entirely optional to play. Also it should be noted that I work at Telltale Games, so maybe my opinion is tainted or whatever.
  2. New people: Read this, say hi.

Hi, and what an excellent way to put it. I think I'm in the same boat.
  3. So I'm off to Vancouver in may...

I went to the Zoo/Aquarium in Vancouver a couple of times when I was a kid. I think it's called (or located in) Stanley Park? I haven't been back up there in ages though, so I don't have any grown-up suggestions. Sorry!
  4. Itllblowyouaway-igndotcom.com

I own a .biz domain and will probably be using it for a personal site/blog at some point. Registering it wasn't any different than getting any other top-level domain, as far as I can tell. Edit: oh man sniped.
  5. Free Range FTW!

The movement of Thumb contributors has trended towards two geographical foci (San Francisco Area and Brighton), depending on whether a given contributor is of the North American or European variety of Thumb:
  6. Video games video-games videogames

I was very concerned by the title of this thread, but that post was quality, Nachimir. I pretty much always use "video games" and kind of prefer the way it looks on a screen, but lots of other people that I respect use the compound form. And you're right; normal people don't give a shit about this argument. If you spell it video-games, though, you're probably German and incorrect.
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

    Oof. The Wrestler was good.
  8. The Day the Music Died...

Excellent use of pastie, by the way. I used to use it all the time, and then forgot it existed.
  9. This stuff was used possibly: (From the first episode's thread.)
  10. Dubious Honors

I think Psychonauts won that award a couple years back. It's a pretty lame thing, and an ugly way to put it (since it's hyperbole; I mean, I bought it and played it, and I probably know like one other dude that owns it). And, clearly some other people must be playing it.
  11. Merry fucking Christmas

I got here late! I hope all the health stuff gets sorted soon, guys. For me, 2008 was a strange year with a lot of change and heartbreak, but at least it wasn't boring. Christmas was leaner than normal given that mostly everyone in my family is a bit worse off financially than they were the previous year. But everyone tried hard, dinner was good, and it was nice to see the folks. Also, the ghost of Chris Remo my nephew came over and accidentally my parents' house! He's fine, and eventually the wall will be, too. Good luck in 2009, everyone.
  12. Plain Sight

I want to play this eventually. I'm on vacation now so I should be able to attend if a session happens in the near future. The new build seems to have fixed the problem I was having with Upside Town. Video games.
  13. Kohl advert uses LeChuck's theme?

Oh yeah, Doug made this discovery independently last night and showed me the audio. It's the worst!
  14. he/she = e

"Yo" confuses me in that role for a couple of reasons. I live in an area of the country where Spanish is spoken often enough that this wouldn't work, since "yo" means "I" in that language. Another way it doesn't seem right to me is that in English (at least in American vernacular), "Yo" is used when you're trying to direct someone's attention toward yourself so you can say something. Like when you're informing them that MTV Raps!
  15. Spike VGA awards

Continuing the nerdiness: He can't be brothers with them, though, because Eddie is not a sandwich name.
  16. Plain Sight

Woo, got the beta installed. I haven't been able to find any games to join yet, but it's fun to fly around and stuff I am unable to host games on the Upside Town level; it seems to crash every time I try to load that map (I bugged it). I was able to host on That's No Moon without fail, however.

  18. WTF IDLE THUMBS

    Ah, sorry.
  19. WTF IDLE THUMBS

Hey, let me Google that for you.
  20. Sonic: Unleashed

Harsh. Did you have to use Comic Sans?
  21. I just disagree with this, sorry. I really like the length as-is. I'm sure everyone's preferred podcast length will be different. For me--in the previous incarnation of the Thumbcast--I felt like the 45 minute mark length was too short, whereas a 1.5+ hour cast (pretty standard in some other 'casts) seems a bit daunting and prone to meandering.
  22. Why the fuck are people still using IE6?

To provide an example for ys's point: At my last job (a travel company I did web stuff for), they spent millions of dollars and years of development to build a booking system for reservations agents...that only worked in IE6. People in that department who upgraded themselves to IE7 had to have a visit from the IT dude to downgrade back to 6 Thankfully the web team at least didn't have to worry about that shit.
  23. Left 4 Dead - Four Pack Buying Extravaganza

Whoa. I don't really suspect any kind of curled-mustache robber baron industrialist tactics, although it does invoke a nice visual. Retail's important, even to Valve, and it allows them to bring a flow of new people to the Steam platform by being much more visible on shelves (and billboard ads, and the sides of buses, and so on). So yeah, they probably aren't going to try cannibalizing that potential anytime soon. No need for secret cabal meetings; it's just business.
