  1. Recently I've felt like playing a good rpg, so the other day I decided to get The Witcher and give it a shot. The only problem is that I'm currently traveling for work, and the hotel that I'm staying at has a shitty internet connection. I think I could do it in a few hours at work, but I'm not sure how closely they monitor their network and I'm afraid it'd be considered inappropriate use. I could go someplace like Panera, but I wonder how fast their connections are and I'd feel a little bad being that guy hogging all the bandwidth. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could get 14.5 gigs onto my computer? Does anyone else have experience downloading Steam games away from home?

  2. I went to Wadjet Eye back when Emerald City Confidential came out. I was disappointed to discover that it wouldn't run using Wine, and assumed the rest of the games wouldn't either. I decided to them yesterday, and it turns out it was a completely off base assumption, so I got them all. I'm really looking forward to playing them. Unfortunately, I just got a sweet new work computer today, so I'm torn between playing some adventure games or with my new computer. Sometimes life is such a biotic bitch.

Oh, and until yesterday I confused Dave Gilbert with Dave Grossman... Maybe because his name is a fusion of Grossman's and Ron Gilbert's?

  3. I saw District 9 last weekend. I didn't love the trailers, and had fairly low expectations. It turned out to be quite enjoyable. I thought the first half or so was particularly well done. The second half was a little disappointing.

I was expecting there to be more with the aliens and District 9 itself. It would have been vastly more interesting if there had been some gritty slum hide and chase scenes rather than the cookie-cutter action movie fireworks.

  4. I'm impressed. It looks like it's going to be great.

I started playing CMI for the first time in probably six years or so. Well, I've attempted to play it a few times over the years, but Part I always disheartens me. I have high hopes this time though as I just completed Part I in the fewest clicks possible. Damn you, Wally.

Is the Wii version coming out on the 7th as well?

  5. Well, I thought they made a good start exploring some interesting futurist ideas. While I largely don't agree with them, I think they make for enjoyable, often thought provoking, entertainment. I also thought that it was shot well, and, for the most part, had a good cast. I was particularly pleased to see Polly Walker, who was so very good in Rome.

  6. Wow, it's been a while.

Have you used Crossover Office before? Is it configured to look at the correct cd/dvd drive? Something else you could try is ripping an image of the cd to your hard drive and mounting it, though I wouldn't really expect the results to be different than reading the cd.

  7. I didn't enjoy Watchmen. I think a large part of it was due to the fucking assholes in the row in front of me who were laughing at and loving the most perverted scenes. They laughed at the rap scene. The laughed when The Comedian shot the pregnant woman. They couldn't get enough of him killing random people on the street. But, then again, I couldn't help but leave that unrelentingly violent movie feeling like it may have been targeted at the assholes in front of me. What the hell was up with that soft-porn scene set to Hallelujah?

I saw Synecdoche, New York last week as well. Now there's a movie worth watching.

  8. I've bounced between a number of different distros over the past few years, each of them falling out of favor in turn. I'm currently running Arch linux, and I have to say that I'm both enjoying it the most and have encountered the least number of irritating issues. It also has an exceptionally small footprint, which would be great for your case. The one downside (depending on how you look at it), is that it takes a fair bit of configuring to get your system initially set-up. It doesn't even come with X installed. But, its not that difficult to get everything you'll need installed, it's much easier to configure than, say, Ubuntu, and there's plenty of great documentation on the internet.
