  1. He made up for it with an extra 'l'.
  2. Batman: Arkham City

Nevermind. Figured it out. That was non-obvious.
  3. Batman: Arkham City

I can't for the life of me figure out how to properly use the gadgets. After you select it, how do you use it? Whenever I click Batman just punches.
  4. The Witcher 2

I took a long break, and just tried to come back to it. I've died so many times on that damn Kraken. I realize that it's not even that difficult of a fight, but the controls are so unresponsive, and what's truly perplexing, not to mention utterly infuriating, is even the load screen after I die is unresponsive. The cursor jerkily moves over to the "Yes" button, and I sit there clicking it till the game decides that's it's good and ready to consider letting me have another go. Back at the Kraken once again (after hammering the right mouse button to encourage it to think about skipping the cutscene once again). I know nothing about making games (just boring J2EE apps), but it seems like every action or input in the game is processed through some single threaded event queue (maybe it is). "Whoops, I know you really want to cast Yarden right now, but, you see, you've already queued two more dashes forward and the Kraken has a tentacle smashing that needs executed. If you're still alive after that we'll see about the Yarden."
  5. STEAM hacked

Perhaps they should teach Sony that trick.
  6. Phoenix Wright sticks back!

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=64510 woohoo!! This is probably the most exciting new news for me so far this e3. I can't wait! Phoenix Wright rules. Hopefully the characters will be just as deep this time around. [edit]Can a mod please fix the title? I obviously can't spell.
  7. Movie/TV recommendations

I enjoyed the first season of Downton Abbey, despite it being melodramatic at times. I think the second season is heading to the US at the beginning of next year. My brother and sister-in-law have started watching it already, and they report that the melodrama has been ratcheted up and even includes a taste of amnesia. Not promising.
  8. Costume Quest

This game is a blast! "And now this cat is going to barf on me." heh
  9. Planescape: Torment

Planescape is awesome, and it holds up great, but, yes, it does involve a lot of reading.
  10. Civilization V

I just got it this past weekend, and am enjoying it very much. I've never understood diplomacy in the Civ games. Is it actually possible to make a deal with another Civ that doesn't involving giving them everything you own in exchange for a couple cinnamon sticks?
  11. General Video Game Deals Thread

Pretty sweet deal on Civ V on Steam this weekend.
  12. Nintendo 3DS

    Seconded.
  13. The Witcher 2

Would I miss out on anything great if I completely ignored the stupid dice game and item crafting?
  14. A question about programming languages (sort of)

PHP was the first language I learned. It was a good introduction to programming.
  15. A question about programming languages (sort of)

    What? No Python?
  16. Movie/TV recommendations

Long wait for the next Dr Who.
  17. The Witcher 2

Very early. Currently, I just have time to play a couple hours a week. The new alchemy system is pretty annoying, as is the inventory. How many potions do I already have? Don't know. How many of the ingredient I'm currently using do I have left? Don't know. What direction is that fucking symbol pointing? Don't know. Also, why'd they get rid of the alcohol collecting? That was a blast. Way more entertaining than lugging around timber and cloth.
  18. The Witcher 2

I just installed the new patch and for some reason I got a bunch of new items when I loaded my game. Stuff like way better armor, trousers, and gloves. Is that normal?
  19. The Witcher 2

The armor that gets imported is great, though. I'm guessing it's the reason I didn't have a difficult time with the combat in the prologue, because I generally suck at fighting in games, so it wasn't a matter of skill. Speaking of equipment, I dislike the upgrade system. If I use my sweet upgrade now, I won't be able to use it when I find a better accessory. If I have the greatest accessory ever, what if I find an incredible upgrade, but now have no more open slots? In the end, I'm probably not going to upgrade anything till 10 minutes from the end of the game.
  20. The Witcher 2

I don't know why I got such a kick out of this, but I love how the characters don't hold doors open for each other. After I saved Zoltan and Dandelion, I stood back and watched in amusement as they, accompanied by Triss and Vernon Roche, filed one by one into the tavern each slamming the door in the other's face. How rude.
  21. The Witcher 2

I didn't catch the blurb on mutagens when it flashed on the screen. When you use them on the character screen are they permanent upgrades?
  22. The Witcher 2

So, is there no combo system? I saw no mention of one in the manual. I miss the group combat style. Are the only ways of hitting multiple enemies bombs, traps, signs, and those special X moves?
  23. The Witcher 2

I haven't had time to play much, so I got to the first bits of combat just now. I don't know, it doesn't seem that difficult. It's irritatingly difficult to target specific enemies, but it seems like you just hammer the left-mouse button for the weak enemies and use E and the right-mouse button for the heavy ones. It's annoying that there's no way to see the keybindings in game. I'm going to go read the manual now to make an attempt at not being completely clueless.
  24. The Witcher 2

Wow, the graphics card in my poor Vaio does not hold up so well. I think I'm going to have to drop the resolution.
  25. The Witcher

As far as I remember, the actual ingredient doesn't matter.
