I just watched the first episode on youtube. Damn amnesia. Good music though.

Thanks for the suggestions. Some of them look promising. Are there any good noir-ish ones? I'm a sucker for noir style stuff. Cowboy Bebop often has some good film noir elements which is quite enjoyable.

I just went back to listen to the commentaries for the first few episodes of the first season. I was surprised to discover that not only was Helo's survival not originally planned (I already knew this), but having Sharon show up was a spur of the moment decision and that it wasn't till a couple episodes down the road that they really figured out what to do with it. It's so surprising because that one sub-plot became one of the central pieces of the series in the second season, and it's certain to carry on into the third. It makes me wonder what the show would have been like if Helo had died or Sharon hadn't come for him, like it was originally intended. Man, I really love this show. I'm actually starting the second season on my second time through, this time watching it with my brother, and I'm still not tired of it. I'm really looking forward to the third season, especially because there is supposed to be a sustained Cylon POV storyline. mmmm, more Dean Stockwell.

Yep, EMI was fun. I still remember when those first screenshots came out... I just replayed SMI and MI2 for the first time in, I don't really know, maybe four years. Previously I'd always thought that SMI was better, but I think I've finally come to see the light. LeChuck's Revenge really is the superior game. I still miss the insult sword fighting though.

meh. The only reason that I'd ever consider getting a Lite (which will probably never happen) is for the better screen. I don't think it really looks all that much better than the original DS. I'm not particularly crazy about the iPodization of everything. Sure, everything looks "sleek and sexy" but there's hardly any character to it. Having said that, no, I don't really have a better design in mind. heh, though a retro Battlestar Galactica-ish DS would be awesome, but possibly a bit clunky.

I just finished playing through SMI on my DS. I completely charged the battery before starting and only played SMI on it with the volume on max. I was worried that it might eat the battery, but I finished it without even the red warning light turning on. I'm not certain how many hours I played. I'm guessing that games like DotT or Sam & Max are a bit harder on the battery though.

This just in: Psychonauts has ugly character design.

I recently read Watchmen for my first time. Not that you all don't already know, but it's an absolutely amazing graphic novel. Noting the recent trend of turning Alan Moore's works into movies, I checked IMDb. Sure enough a Watchmen movie is in the works. Obviously this invokes mixed feelings. On one hand it could be an utter piece of shit, like the LXG movie, and on the other, it could end up being surprisingly good, like the recent V for Vendetta but hopefully even better. I don't want to condemn the movie before knowing anything about it, but I'm highly skeptical. Anyway, it just struck me -- Clint Eastwood would make an incredible Rorschach (though he is a bit too tall). I highly doubt they're going to get him though. I wonder what visual style they're going to go for.

What was your most embarrassing moments/embarrassing monets you caused others?

You haven't been around here very long, have you... -
That's good. I hope Mrs. Ron shows up in next seasons podcasts. That one for Lay Down Your Burdens part 1 was the best.

Yeah, he mentioned that in the podcast for the episode. Apparently he's VP, and becomes dissatisfied with Baltar's response to the Cylon occupation. In the podcast they also mentioned that the first episode of the third season was going to be five years later. At first I thought they were just joking, but now I'm not so sure. Another five years would allow them to bring the cylon/human child into play, but, jeez, would we ever be missing a whole lot more character stuff. And, what the heck had the Adama boys been up to all that time? Does anyone know whether or not they were serious about the five year jump?

It just occurred to me this evening that I hadn't looked my hero Steve Ballmer up on youtube yet, so I did. To my delight, there were several Ballmer clips that I hadn't seen before. First, there's crazy commercial for Windows 2000 that I'm shocked even exists. Unfortunately, Ballmer only has a minor role at the beginning. Then there's excellent clip where Ballmer actually refers to his old crazy, nasty-sweet "developers" episode. He also refers to chanting "windows". According to wikipedia he actually ripped one of his vocal cords chanting "windows" a number of years back.Next there's this amazing, yet low res commercial staring both Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates. Ballmer doesn't say anything but I swear that Gates is playing with a Manny push-doll at one point. Finally, 's a short clip with Ballmer on blogging.Enjoy.

Snakes on a Plane (and Gnarls Barkley)

Anyone watch the Peabody Awards? I just watched the two clips that scifi has up on their site. It's hilarious that for the entirety of Matt Stone's acceptance speech he just talks about how great BSG is.

Downloaded rocked. I actually liked the first half of Lay Down Your Burdens more than the second, probably because of the subplot with Tyrol. The funny thing about this season's cliff-hanger is that I'm not really so interested in the cylon occupation or really even care much about what's going to happen next. I'm much more interested in finding out more about what has happened to the characters in the past year. Gaius has obviously fallen to pieces (If I were to guess I'd say that he hasn't seen Six in a year). Lee is bitter and it's unknown what's going on with him and Dee now. Helo seems to be doing better but where the heck is his Sharon? Tyrol and Cally finally got married, but now his Sharon is back. That's certian to bring up some hard emotions on all sides. Starbuck... she doesn't seem as interesting. I'm guessing Anders will die, especially considering I don't think anyone is particularly attached to him. [edit: Dang it, I'm listening to the podcast for the second part now. I guess Anders isn't dying, for a while at least.] Adama still appears to be Adama, yet the return of the mustache might be to signify some change in him (either that or just to show the passing of time). Then there's Zarek. What the heck is he up to now? It could be that I just missed him, but I thought it was interesting that they didn't show him again after Balter "lost" the election. Maybe they just cut his scenes if he had anymore. [edit]Oh, I just noticed something else. I could be remembering incorrectly, but didn't Starbuck and Tigh hug when they met on the planet? Looks like their relationship has progressed for the better.

I thought the same thing. Finch's character in particular was a lot more interesting in the movie. As for the politics, neither one was really all that complex, but I will say that another complaint that I have about the movie is that the government really doesn't seem all that terrible. Yeah, they killed a bunch of people, but since then what have they done? Forced people to watch tv? They really should have developed what was actually going on more.

I just finished reading the graphic novel. I actually think they did a good job translating it into a movie. It stays true to the original story, but isn't afraid to make a few changes in order to make it work better as a movie. Having said that, yeah, they probably should have left out them falling in love. It also would have been nice if they hadn't beat you over the head with the symbolism. Other than that, it was quite good.

What?! I'm almost finished now with four more episodes to go. I'm currently listening to the podcast for Scar. I was quite shocked that Ron thinks that it's one of the better episodes of the season, and is lathering on the praise. I thought it really sucked. I actually liked Black Market more. I audibly groaned when I saw them using that "x hours earlier" gimmick yet again. The whole "Scar" thing itself came out of no where and seemed really hokey. Also, Kat is unbelievably irritating. Am I missing something?

Yeah, that chapter with Jon on Mars reminiscing about his past I think is my favorite chapter in the book. The way it all comes together is amazing.

A few years back, when the two GBC Zeldas came out, I bought them both at this little hole in the wall shop in Budapest. As it turns out, they were bootleg. As I think back on the incident I realize that I probably should have been bit suspicious after watching them put the boxes together before selling them to me.

Animal Crossing... When I first got it over Christmas I played it for at least an hour every day for over two months. I just sold my copy last week. It's a fun game. I think I just got burned out on it. Also, the animals in your town are rather annoying.

Aussie Ben, have you tried the most recent version of scummvm ds? It just came out a couple of weeks ago. I'm not having any trouble with touch screen accuracy. Miffy, while I think it's awesome in its own right, the whole point of something like this is so that you can play good old classic scumm games where ever. You're not going to lug a computer around so you can play SMI on a bus, are you? I'm definitely going to be playing when I fly back to Budapest this Christmas. The DS has the advantage here again, because even if I were to play it on my laptop I could only get a couple hours into it before my battery dies. Speaking of which, I wonder how long the DS's battery holds out running one of these things. Whatever it is, it's almost certain to be longer than two hours. This version of Goomba works much much better with the GBAMP. It still doesn't work with bigger GB games, but at least I can play stuff like Link's Awakening and Metroid now even if I can't play Wario Land.
-
What are some great old school Gameboy games that are worth playing, excluding any of the Zeldas, Marios, or Pokemons?
-
I got my GBAMP today, and I'm somewhat disappointed. Apparently I hadn't done my research quite as well as I had thought. It is actually quite terrible at running GB roms. I was really looking forward to replaying the games of my youth too. On the plus side, scummvm ds works great.
