Snakes on a Plane (and Gnarls Barkley)
Moosferatu replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Movies & Television
I just saw it. It actually surprised me. It wasn't what I had expected at all. I was expecting a retro, campy movie with crap special effects and cheesy dialog that I was going laugh my way through. It ended up being a surprisingly solid movie. I also wasn't really expecting it to be all that scary either. Come on, just how frightening can a bunch of snakes on a plane really be? It could just be that I usually don't watch scary movies, but, for me at least, the movie was quite intense. I'd say that it's with out question the best action blockbuster of the summer, and well worth seeing with a bunch of friends. I, on the other hand, saw it by myself in a theater full of people over 50 and a couple of young teens. They didn't even appreciate the movie's signature line! -
There's no way in hell that they'd ever name it after him even if he somehow managed to get the most votes. It's just funny to see his influence and the power of the internet.

I'm really curious to know if that movie is any good. I enjoyed the visuals in the trailer, but the plot seemed a little iffy. Let us know what you think of it.

Just watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

Awesome. Eclipse is great.

I wouldn't say that it was that bad, but it certainly wasn't quite on the level that I'd expected. I still had a good time playing it.

Yeah, I believe there are some fan translations of them out there if you do a search for them.

The first four cases of the US version of Phoenix Wright were originally released for the GBA in Japan, I believe. I think there were several other Phoenix Wright games released in Japan for the GBA as well.

wow... Has anyone ventured to listen to the Gamers Hell podcast? I decided to check out the most recent one because there was a screenshot from Grim in the banner ad for it -- big mistake. The host doesn't even sound human. Better yet he hasn't even finished Grim Fandango yet! He's reviewing it after having just played the first year.

While watching this supposedly profound movie I couldn't help but think that they were thinking, "Hey, let's make Magnolia except loaded with terrible racism cliches! Brilliant!"

The first trailer for Eastwood's two new movies finally came out. I don't usually care for war movies, but I'm looking forward to these ones. To be honest, really the only reason for this is because of Eastwood and the idea of persenting opposing perspectives. The trailer didn't really inspire me, but I'm hoping that's just because war movies don't usually turn me on. What do you guys think? Will they be up there with Million Dollar Baby and Unforgiven, or will they be just a couple more war movies to add to the pile? Also, Paul Haggis is a twat, and Crash sucks.

Hellboy's head should be hiding in there somewhere. I got it from this screen capture from the upcoming Hellboy movie.

Yeah, The Lord of the Rings game is a bit complicated, but once you get it down it's incredibly fun to play. It's so refreshing because, unlike just about every other game, everyone is working together trying to beat the game (unless you play with the Sauron expansion where someone actually plays Sauron). It's damn hard to win too, especially if you're playing with either of the expansions, but when you do it feels amazing. There's none of that awkward tension like there usually is after a heated neck to neck game where someone has to lose. I haven't played it in about a year or so because I went off to college, but if I remember correctly it's more fun and easier with three or four people. It'd be quite difficult to win with just two as there's usually at least one person who has to sacrifice himself in order to get the ring to Mount Doom. The rest of my family loves Ticket to Ride, but I don't care for it so much. Probably because I suck at it.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I actually haven't seen any David Lynch movies yet. I'm not sure how many more movies I'm going to be able to watch before I head back to college, so if I'm only able to watch one which one should it be? Elephant Man? Blue Velvet? Mulholland Dr.?

I watched Brick yesterday. Fantastic movie. There seems to be a flux in noir production this year with Hollywoodland and The Black Dahlia still to come later this fall. Hopefully they'll be at least as good as Brick.

Yeah, Settlers is just about the greatest game ever. I've never gotten tired of playing it. There is one thing that I don't like about it though. Years ago after I first played it I showed it to my dad who also fell in love with it. He's since become a German game nut frequenting sites like Board Game Geek. Lord knows just how much money he's thrown at this obsession. Admittedly there are a few of his games that I enjoy, but it's left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth as I prefer more of casual board games. A couple of my favorites are Bang! and The Lord of the Rings board game. You wouldn't expect a board game based on a license to be any good would you, but it actually is. Come to think of it, I might even like it more than Settlers. It's a co-op game unlike anything I've ever played. I strongly recommend it.

That'd be awesome.

I can't tell if you're joking or not. I don't enjoy it because it's incredibly long winded and rather boring. I haven't played it since I was a kid, but even then I don't think I ever completely finished a game.

Monopoly sucks ass. Does anyone actually play it anymore?

Yeah, mplayer works for just about everything, and is quite awesome to boot. The thing is that the Played site is rigged with javascript so it won't display anything unless you're actually using Quicktime.
