Yes, it seems very simplistic, so it's probably not competing with Deus Ex (or E.Y.E, I guess), but as an honest-to-god first person shooter, it looks pretty god damn slick, and with a good eye for detail and visual polish. I'm excited to hear more about it, like for example when it's coming out.

Almost no one finishes games, but what about episodes?
toblix replied to toblix's topic in Video Gaming
There are more than ten reasons for not finishing a game, like: it's boring, it's too hard, it's too long and you don't have the time it's by Ubisoft, and you're tired of having to re-enter your email and password every time you load up the game even though you've checked the "remember me" button. -
I should probably start my Deus Ex 1 playthrough if I'm going to get it done before this is out. Oh shit, it's out in a week!

omg leaked trailer: d6fRcrNplBQ Could be very interesting indeed if they make it so weapons are for getting out of tricky situations rather than shooting bandids in the dick. Graphics looks sort of dated, but its leakedness could mean it's an old build. It's Ubisoft:fart:, so they're bound to fuck it up somehow.

I finally published my LBP masterpiece level. If I have to estimate (and, you know, I don't) I'd say I've spent somewhere between 75 and 100 hours creating and testing this baby. If you were thinking about killing yourself just now, do me a favour and play my level first. Maybe, just maybe, it'll give you a reason to live. My level has bullet points such as: No Idle Thumbs stuff You start next to some shit I never ended up using in the level The level opens in medias res: The evil wizard has stolen your thing! Chase him to the top of his tower and get it back. The wizard's tower is full of strange rooms and chambers, and also it's a rickety mess of collapsing stuff. Will you make it out alive? In my experience you will three out of four times. Also, there's no wizard. Race a sweet car through an exploding cardboard volcano! Be careful not to fall out of or break the car, since you'll need it to escape! Will you make it out in time before the volcano entrance collapses? If the trigger I set up works like it should, you will! But only barely! Explore the green mountain with the car you still have. It's a steep climb, but if you're careful you'll make it to the top. Watch out, though, because the little men who live in the mountain have blocked the bridge! Will you be able to infiltrate their underground cave and secret lab? The wizard was not happy about you escaping his tower, and has launched an attack on a nearby area. The wizard knows no mercy. Your heart will break and you will cry as you make your way through a broken, war-torn landscape at night. Be careful, or you'll be chased by an electric dragon! Going up? Having finally escaped the wizards elite forces, the elevator will take you safely to your destination... or will it? Rumor has it the lift has been "acting up" lately. Make sure to hold on! You wouldn't want to fall out onto the boring ice slide! After the boring ice slide, you'll be thrust deep into the machine! This ancient device has gone mad over the ages. And guess who has to traverse his very innards? You has! Watch out so you don't burn on his dying mechanics and fall back to the start. Oh, no! Just when you thought you were done, there's another part! This time the wizard has risen from the dead, and with one final effort he tries to squash you with giant glass cubes. Will you be able to traverse the slippery slope while dodging the wizards periodic attacks? Fall down a chute and onto the finish! Watch out so you don't get stuck on the edges I couldn't be bothered to fix! With this finally out of my system, I can start playing MGS4!

I have no talent (or Thinking about killing yourself?)
toblix replied to toblix's topic in Video Gaming
Uh, so did anyone else make a level? As far as I know I should be able to play them in LBP2 as well. -
Probably experimenting with the look. I also think she looks perfectly weird, but there's not really any point in judging the character until we've played the game. It's not coming out this year, anyway, so they have plenty of time left to play around. Maybe they'll even do one of those Facebook pick-a-lady things that seem to be all the rage these days.

It's such a shame that Ubisoft have all these great properties like BG&E, Settlers, Myst and Imagine: Babyz. They should sell them all off and then just go find a corner and die. Whenever I play a Ubisoft game, you can see how they've taken what the developers have made and then their fucking lawyers and marketing execs have just circled around it and caked it in this horrible, fetid layer of Ubisoft's proprietary half-assed PC-gaming-killing goo before shipping it off. – Who requires me to log in with a username and password each time I start a game, and then forget it every time even though I check the "remember me" checkbox? Ubisoft! Who insists on using my country rather than language setting to determine their game's language, forcing me to set my Xbox to the US when I want to play? Ubisoft! Who has to have their own, worthless achievements system that can't be disabled and is just shit? Ubisoft! Who had the most awful, non-funny douchebag host for their E3 session? Ubisoft! Who secretly hates PC gaming and has been poisoning its dinner with ever-so-slightly increasing doses like that mother in The Sixth Sense? Ubisoft!

I just realized this will probably be available in my GDC vault thing. There were talks and stuff, right?
-
I'm confused. I haven't seen the episode yet, but isn't this you?

So there are two games for iOS I would probably buy if I could: Chinatown Wars HD and Rage HD, both for iPad. They're not available here, though, and I've tried contacting Rockstar and id about it, not surprisingly without any response from either. My impression was that one of the things with the iOS app storw was that you can publish to almost everywhere at once. Is there some region marketing bullshit thing going on that I don't know about? Can't they just check all the boxes when publishing their game, or are there lots of contracts and paperwork for each country? There are like a billion fucking fart apps.
-
Yeah, now that I've gotten a real reply (from id, at least) I can't really be angry for them not bothering with Norway due to this sort of thing. I guess it's only fair there should be at least a couple of downsides to not joining the EU.
-
Now I'm pirating an episode of Undercover Boss UK. Look what you've done!
-
So I emailed both id and Rockstar, and after 20 minutes I got this from id: So apparently it's a tax thing, which is fair, I guess.

So everyone knows about Unity3D, but have any of you actually downloaded and installed it? I just did, and it installed in like twenty seconds. I started it, and it just loaded right up into some fancy space base level that looked like an awesome space space only with a bunch of extra game logic stuff in there. I was pretty amazed at how quick and smooth the navigation seemed for this pretty complex thing, but then I hit the play button and I was almost literally blown away. Hitting play I immediately started playing a space marine Alien Infestation type thing with robots and doors and sound and everything. I'm used to debugging web applications and boring enterprise data logging applications, but to actually be able to debug a fancy action game was something I hadn't even considered before, and now I'm able to do it with a free full license! Now I'm going to read up on this thing and see if I can't make some sort of game. I have this idea: you're a space marine in a space base level, and there are robots. But also there is a room full of lamps!

The latest trailer looks good. I mean, there's a weird mix of seemingly mediocre character design and animation and awesome character design and animation, but regardless of how the game turns out, the environments look so awesome I'll be getting it (not sure which platform yet). I like that the megatexture system is not sold as the new Best Graphics Engine, but that Carmack is clear about the engine's strength (awesome ultra-detailed no-limits texturing on everything) and weakness (no fully dynamic lighting).

From http://store.steampowered.com/news/1968/: [steam Cloud is] a set of services for Steam that stores application data online and allows user experiences to be consistent from any PC. In this first release, the information stored and accessible through the Steam Cloud includes keyboard, mouse, and gamepad configurations, as well as multiplayer settings such as spraypaint images. This sounds pretty cool. I wonder if it will provide me with a way to have my permanent VAC ban, which doesn't expire until I do, lifted.

WaitwaitwaitWAIT. Does this mean that if I connect to Steam via my US VPN, it'll be all "Howdy pardner, lemme unlock all yer games hamburger baseball"? Is there a downside? TELL ME EVERYTHING.

I love how everyone is hanging on his every word on there, and he's being a huge nerd talking about highly technical stuff on there, and he could probably make up half of it using bullshit words and non-existing technical terms, and nobody would know but him and a couple of Intel engineers.

I'm working on a 720p nude thing. Hold on.

Just finished this, or rather the HD version (but practically the same game), and noticed there was no thread for it. What a travesty! This game has held up incredibly well. It's fun, it's varied, it has some RPG elements, it has great collectibles (with map indicators!), it has humor and a strong design sense, it has a beautiful orchestral score and it has a nice difficulty curve. The combat is a bit simplistic by today's standards, but there's actually less combat than I thought I remembered, especially if you can handle the pretty simple stealth sections. It has a really strong sense of progress, and it's not long and drawn-out. I tend to group this game with the two Little Big Adventure games, since they, too, have this great and epic sense of exploration of weird colorful worlds that, despite consisting of toys and animals and silly enemies, manage to have a dark edge. Also, they balance exploration, puzzles and combat better than any other game I know of. Oh, also the credits sequence of Beyond Good & Evil is just so god damn mother fucking long and drawn out. I still watched it, of course, just for the sequel-hint at the end that may or may not pan out.

How does the thing with Steam activation work, does anyone know? Can all games that are on Steam always be activated with the key, or is it only in special cases? If I buy a boxed copy of Rage, can I be sure I'll be able to activate the key on Steam?
