If there's going to be Thumbs multiplayer, I'm ordering this right now. Though I guess I should maybe play them all, then, since I like doing that. Are the two predecessors worthy single player games as well? edit: I just ordered all three games, so I guess I'm up for some dudebroing.

I'm interested, or whatever, I guess.

Oh God, when I saw 2G I got that weird feeling that I get when someone references a game that you love but that you thought that nobody else had heard about.
-
Yeah, I immediately ran down to it before anyone saw me, then I waited at the other end until everyone was looking the other way, at which point I quickly popped out and took cover behind the sofa. Then it was just a matter of moving from cover to cover all the way back to the exit.

Hey, thanks! I was sure there was no vent, but suddenly there it was. A bit of luck and elite sneaking skills let me get out of there without the soldiers getting so much as a glimpse.
-
Okay, quick question. So I just got tricked by a lady, and a bunch of soldiers just entered the room. To get the achievements I'm going for, I apparently have to cross this big, open room without: Setting off any alarms, or killing any of the guys Is there a way of doing this without just murdering anyone? Oh, and the alarm is already sounding, but I guess that doesn't really count.

Late as always to the party, I just watched Thor and don't have anything positive to say about it.

Holy cyberbrain, this totally sweet-looking cybergame is coming out soon. It has guns, robots, computer terminals with awesome overwrought UIs, weapon and armor upgrades, trash-ridden future streets with explosive barrels and neon ads, and godawful acronyms. I don't know if it's going to be out on Steam, or when it will be out at all, but it definitely looks like a potential cybergame. Also, this post.

Well, thanks to whoever recommended mines. I had six of seven of them by the time I got to the first boss, and after I'd hit him with all the explosive barrels in the room, I managed to take him down with two or three frag mines. It was pretty satisfying, but it's annoying to know that I'll be facing two more frustrating encounters like these. Sorry for repeating stuff that's probably been discussed earlier, but I try to avoid whatever spoilers I can. Will the next two bosses be equally frustrating, or worse? Is there something I should keep in mind, like a certain weapon or type of mine to ensure victory? Are there any exploits I will be able to use? I seriously will not think twice about cheating my way through these super-lame encounters.

Guess that's the update I just received... pretty lame. Anyway, fuck shit piss regarding the first boss. The whole thing is so hilariously out of place. I actually wouldn't mind it so much if I didn't have to reload every time I died, and half the time I try to reload, the game just crashes (loading a game has never crashed before, but all the shit going on with the boss is probably doing it). I tried the thing with throwing the explosive stuff at him, but he takes it in stride and then kills me. This shit is so super lame god damn it how could they put this in??!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

You're on the right path. Think about it: 1307 - Jacques de Molay is accused of idolatry. 1605 - Feodor II takes the throne. 1721 - ??? 1796 - Derbent falls

whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat What the fuck. I just shot a dude with my tranq gun and pulled his body around a corner. Suddenly I notice his icon is a skull... did I just kill a man with my tranq gun? Is that possible? God damn it. Apparently it's a known issue, and the only way to see if you didn't actually kill anyone is to finish the game. While I know it's just an achievement, it's pretty annoying to go out of my way to not kill anyone and then not get the recognition for it after all that work because of sloppy programming. I really wish there was a way of knowing if you'd missed your chances at achievements like this throughout the game. Mirror's Edge had an indicator for it's Pacifist achievement. Anyway, just to be safe I downloaded a save I can use to get the achievement in case the game breaks on me.

One way to get more out of diplomacy is the American way: Be an aggressive superpower with lots and lots of guns. As your army grows, you'll see their end of the deal containing more and more stuff until the point at which they're just paying you tribute and you can do what you want.

Dead Island fails to live up to its name and is in fact alive
toblix replied to Thrik's topic in Video Gaming
God damn it. I had just about convinced myself I should play this when I found out it auto-levels enemies. -
I'm completely and totally stressed about that non-lethal achievement! Whenever I knock someone out I make sure to pull them to a couch or chair and make them comfortable. In my sleep I look back and see this one guy I knocked out and left on the floor, and imagine that, as I make my way through the level, slight vibrations in the ground make his body slowly slide across the floor and into an uncomfortable position against the wall, and then he slowly chokes and I don't know about this until I finish the game and don't get the achievement and explode in a fit of rage unlike any fit I've ever exploded in.
-
So basically, unless the player has an extreme amount of luck, going for a non-lethal approach (which, by the way, is endorsed in an achievement) is equivalent to making the game impossible to complete? That sounds pretty dumb. I feel like I should start spending praxis points on combat skills, even though that goes against my desired way of playing the game. Fuck those bosses, whoever they are. Another question: whenever I encounter the first boss; if I find out I'm ill equipped for the battle, can I just head off somewhere else and find new stuff, or will I have to redo lots of stuff?
-
All right. I'm playing this all stealthy and non-lethally and just realized I'm probably going to get my ass kicked by the first boss and get filled with rage. What is the minimum amount of bro space marine speccing and equipping I'm going to have to do to be able to defeat these bosses? Currently I've spent all my praxis points on hacking and social skills, and I just sell off everything except stun and tranq weapons. GUIDE ME ILDE THUMBS!

I watched the GB quick look of this, and was instantly saddened – this looks like a game I would love to play, but that would stress me out completely. The large, open world full of interesting, beautiful locations, the awesome-looking combat and neat-sounding RPG elements are really tempting, but I get slightly unnerved simply thinking about playing it. Checkpoint-based saving, weapons that deteriorate... there should be a giant pussy mode for people like me. Wait, maybe there is? -
I'll try to explain why I think you shouldn't call it " ... And Then A Grenade Rolled Down A Hill" without being overly critical. After all, I don't know your full reasoning behind the idea in the first place. You say that the title "encapsulate what I want from the show - stories from/about video games", (or ,") but it really doesn't. To most people it would only be confusing. It only encapsulates that if you've listened to the Idle Thumbs podcasts, and even then it would most likely be interpreted to be some sort of fan project without your explanation accompanying it. Also, the title is a explicit and non-ambigious reference to Idle Thumbs. I'm assuming your podcast is a completely isolated project, completely unrelated to Idle Thumbs. So why, then, would you want to tangle it up in this other thing? First of all, you would in my opinion have to get permission from them to use this as a name. (Probably) not for any legal reasons, but for ethical ones. Secondly, consider that, if your project "takes off" in any way, you'll have to change the name; think about the t-shirts! It would be awkwardly confusing. The only reason I see for choosing " ... And Then A Grenade Rolled Down A Hill" for the name of your podcast is if you're pretty certain you'll need to "trick" Idle Thumbs fans into listening to your podcast by sort of associating yourself with it, and there's no way you'll get anywhere if you choose a non-related name. If that's how you feel, you're probably better off considering a different project altogether. Now, since I'm very keen to listen to good podcasts about gaming, I hope you get it on the road. I promise I'll listen to the first couple of episodes, no matter what name you choose (unless it's "Fag Cunt").

The Big live live show 2011 live.
toblix replied to stewmull's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I came upon it quite accidentally, apparently right after Jake and Sean had started their bit. It was a pleasant surprise, to be sure, though a bit weird how they kept insisting on referencing all the references rather than discussing the actual game. Anyway, the little they showed and discussed made me even more anxious to see the actual thing, though I get the impression it's still a way's off (they might've said an actual date that I missed). It also reminded me (and hopefully Jake and Sean) how much they need to make a second podcast episode. I also stayed awake past my bedtime to see Chris Hecker's SpyParty, which is shaping up to be potentially awesome. Also, I was a bit surprised to discover the actual scale of the whole operation (I guess it was the whole Whiskey Media corporation thing – there were some rifftraxing people and a couple of guys testing arbitrary products in hilarious ways) There were dozens of men and women milling around, and so many rooms in which things were taking place. Pretty cool. -
It was not unintentional, if that's any comfort. The fact that I was wrong makes it even more dumb I guess, but I'm not a revisionist, so I won't go back and remove it unless someone forces my hand (or does it for me).
