  1. Words with Friends

Turns out internet access is some kind of weird valuable commodity to Australians, which means I've been very much offline the last couple of weeks. The few times I've come online I've gotten some messages about forfeiting games, which I never meant to do. I promise I'll get my act together once I return to my home hemisphere.
  2. Want to make a video game...

I'd help, but I'm too busy with Lamp Marine.
  3. Wait, isn't this the Assassin's Creed thread?
  4. AC3 should take place in a contemporary or future setting. Think of being able to walk down the street and assassinate people with guns.
  5. Isn't there allready a thread for this over at the Idle Banter forum?
  6. Fuck Steve, grats Steve 3.

Jake sleeps with his mouth open.
  7. Life

Well, I'm off to Australia and won't be back until next year. Hopefully I've packed all the right things and won't be put in Australian jail for trying to smuggle in Norwegian dirt. Have a merry Christmas and happy New Year.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

How I Met Your Mother is pretty bad most of the time (and a laugh track doesn't help at all), but sometimes it does something hilarious that makes me laugh. It's been a while, though, almost like that one good writer got fed up and left. Community is fantastic, though the latest season has been the weakest so far. Usually it gets better the further they move away from the regular, expected stuff and do crazy paintball episodes. I tried watching Big Bang Theory, but I didn't make it past the first episode; it seemed to hinge too much on unfunny nerd stereotypes. I want to mention Psych, since it's a show I think is pretty good, though always feel slightly ashamed to mention. Like Monk, it's the most inoffensive television the USA manages to produce, but when the actors and writing line up just so, it's the best thing.
  9. Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Regarding the guards spotting you, you know there are two kinds, right (yellow/red on the minimap). It took some time for me to realise the difference.
  10. Do any of you live in Iceland?

That is also my impression too, as well.
  11. Life

Next week I'm going to embark on what is most likely going to be the longest airplane journey I will ever embark on (Norway—Thailand—Australia (and, theoretically, back again)). I seriously cannot imagine how I am going to survive. After twenty minutes of being trapped in a cramped airplane seat, I will be literally clawing at the window, longing for the painful death of explosive decompression.
  12. Assassin's Creed: Revelations

I quite like the music, actually. Though I probably wouldn't buy the sountracks, there's always a couple of melodies in those games that amplify the incredible ambience and mood of the game by a factor of approx. a million.
  13. Do any of you live in Iceland?

The cold makes their brains fat and tasty!
  14. Do any of you live in Iceland?

Don't, Hermie, she'll pick your brains!
  15. Plug your shit

Though I have nothing to contribute, it seems like an interesting thing, and I'll be watching that account like a motherfucking HAWK. edit: Also that was my four thousandth post!
  16. Assassin's Creed: Revelations

I just realised playing this game is a complete waste of time if you've already played Brotherhood. The amount of recycled mechanics is just ridiculous.
  17. Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Having played some more with bombs, I really really like them. I guess it's weird that this is the first time an Assassin's Creed is actually using a physics engine for something. With all the things going on in the games, it's always been about people (or horses) moving around. Actually bouncing a grenade off a wall and into the face of a man feels weirdly innovative for the series.
  18. Rayman Origins

    More like animation lingo.
  19. Batman: Arkham City

I spent probably ten hours collecting those god damn Riddler trophies, riddles and challenges, and then I find out there's not an achievement for it.
  20. Take it the fuck easy.
  21. Johann Sebastian Joust

Yeah, I got that too and I was all like omg I don't have move controllers and just closed the email. Also, if I did have move controllers, I would probably need Other People™ to play with, which is another thing I don't have.
  22. Life

Apparently it's a known issue with jQuery 1.6. Also, it's apparently fixed in 1.7.
  23. Life

Maybe one of the libraries you're using does, then, or a Chome extension of mine, though I don't think I've installed any... anyway I got that message in the console.
  24. Life

Oh, very nice. Really like the subtle background stuff. However, event.layerX and event.layerY are broken and deprecated in WebKit. They will be removed from the engine in the near future.
  25. Batman: Arkham City

Just finished this and: Possible best game of 2011. I forget so quickly what games have come out when, but surely few of them can compete with this?! Incredibly solid. There are so many things going on in the game, but it still feels really solid and properly planned out. You'd expect there to be lots of weird glitches and unexpected edge cases, but it always feels like, no matter what you do, they've thought of it, and you get little pieces of conversation, always relevant. Well-paced and well-balanced. You earn new gadgets and moves constantly throughout the game, and the game balances this out masterfully by introducing new enemies and obstacles. Best boss battles. All the boss battles were really fun and they fucking knew when to stop. My problem with video game boss fights are that they tend to have at least one too many stages, and the fun of discovering patterns and weaknesses is ruined by that final crescendo of difficulty – but not here! Many great side-missions that pop up everywhere. If you can only get one game this year, you should get Arkham City, as it contains the gameplay of a billion games. I finished the story today, having made sure to go after side-quests whenever possible to avoid that thing where you run around the barren post-game collecting dumb shit, and I still only have half of the Riddler trophies/riddles/challenges. Also, there are challenge rooms or something, which I'll probably never try, but I guess is something. All the talk of disappearing save-games makes it really stressful to load up the game, as I keep fearing it won't find my save. I guess this is the last Batman game from Rocksteady.
