Hopefully it's just a fun little thing, and not indicative of the direction they're taking things. I want a serious game, man.

Some more info is out. Most disconcerting: Super heros and super villains. Also, I wonder if the multiplayer is asynchronous. Didn't Sim City 4) have a multiplayer thing?

So it's out next year, and they can't show what it looks like? Or haven't they really announced it yet? Looking forward to actual screenshots. And yes, curved roads!

GDC 2012: The Death of Nick Breckon
toblix replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Yeah, I'm now super excited about Super Metroid! I've always heard people talking about it, and referencing it as inspiration for so many games (and genres). I really like the exploration/unlocking gameplay style of games like Shadow Complex, so it'll be interesting to see from whence it came. -
So I've been subscribing to Giant Bomb for a while – their Quick Looks are a great way for me to feel like I play a lot of games. I just watched the latest video where Jeff Gertmann answers a lot of email from people, and talks in length about various subjects. I find it quite interesting, but there's one thing that strikes me as... maybe a little weird. Is it just me, or is he drinking water from a huge jar whilst sitting in a gross room? They have perfectly fine studio locations, don't they?

Sooo... where are all the announcements? Is there a special announcements thing at the end, or can they announce shit whenever?
-
So, anyone else think this looks like a fun way to have a good time? The Giant Bomb Quick Look makes it look pretty forgiving, which appeals to my softcore nature.

So, some guy started a Kickstarter for making a highly realistic tactical shooter. I was about to consider supporting it, but then the video ended with a clip of his little daughter with a (toy?) gun, which I found off-putting for some reason, and so I didn't. Also he spelled Tim Schaffer's name wrong. Anyway, sounds like it could be a cool game – less broing and more pie-slicing.

If Half-Life 3 is officially announced at GDC 2012, you will find a 5120x1440 wallpaper of myself, uncovered and completely naked, in this thread. I am not kidding, and I am not going to back on this promise.

From what I hear it has moments where it tries to be edgy and cool, but just comes off as really dumb, but that it doesn't affect the gameplay at all. The motion comic story stuff I saw, and the introduction videos to the various ranges looked pretty painful.

Just finished a game with Miffy, and boy oh boy was that some hectic insect shooting action. We failed right at the end of a long fight ( ) and considered ending it there, but decided on giving it another go, resulting in a spectacular victory and both of us reaching level 3! Though the game was joined by an artificial intelligence computer algorithm, we could probably do with a third human player next time.

I want to, but I can't! I had the same problem with Gears of War. I probably spent most of the time scouring every location for stupid collectibles.

Just finished the three or four first chapters of this ( ) and I'm quite excited and sad. Excited because it's always great to jump into these games. Incredible production value and attention to detail, every beat is perfect and it's all so overwhelmingly fun and great and awesome. Sad, because I know what the gameplay will inevitably become as the game progresses. I'm not expecting to be disappointed, as I loved the previous two games, and there's nothing so far to indicate it'll be less exciting or fun. It's just that, as I wander through the Francis Drake museum in Colombia, looking at exhibits, hearing the conversations of the other groups of visitors, everything looking super slick with bright sunlight coming in through the windows and the hundreds of hours of work behind Nate's every little movement, wondering if that one guy is watching me or just happened to look in my direction just now... I'm instantly transported to adventure game mode (in particular, Broken Sword's uncanny ability to create a sense of real locations) and want the game to be just this – just walking slowly through beautiful, exotic locations, and instead of the inevitable shootout with a helicopter, maybe sweet puzzles. Anyway, it's a great feeling to just having started a new Uncharted game. Also, the hidden treasures are somewhat of a pace-breaker for me, as I tend to navigate every location slowly and methodically, avoiding obvious trigger points, in hopes of finding another one of those slowly blinking things. I wish they'd turn that stuff off until the second playthrough, as I'm powerless to resist it.

Can I just buy it and have fun time, or am I going to have to play the single player first?

IDLE THUMBS: A Retrospective In Triple A
toblix replied to Roderick's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Great job, Erkki! -
They could still get some of that money from Valve, which means they could sell it for below cost.

I thought AC has had wall-hugging sort of all along. If you run up to a wall, he'll put his arms up and lean on it, no? It's not Gears of War, but it's what I always used when I was tailing people around corners.

From here: That's what I wanted to hear.

Just finished this. Fun stuff, with some varied levels and interesting combat (I don't remember the other two games having enemies that can't just be shot dead). I haven't really paid attention to the overarching story in these games; the broness and cliché dialogue makes it hard for me to take it seriously, so I end up being "along for the ride", which is fine. The retro lancer was terrible.

Just remember to play it in Italian for primo authenticity.

I just realised I don't have three ears!

Yeah, the twice a week casts are much more than I expected. Great stuff!
