Idle Forums Game Club 2 - Shadow of the Colossus edition
toblix replied to Sno's topic in Video Gaming
A couple of times I was about the jump, the camera suddenly shifted, making me jump into nothing. The other times I was able to grab the other thing and shimmy around, but then the next jump failed spectacularly and I fell. -
Quick question about Backblaze, which I've heartily recommended to everyone without actually having tried it myself. Do I chose what it backs up, or is it just «I'm in all your directories, backing up your filez?» I guess it only supports local disks, so I can't "back up" my mapped NAS or anything crazy like that ... Oh, also, what kind of access to backed-up files do I get? Can I log in and download specific files? Does it keep a history of changes?

Idle Forums Game Club 2 - Shadow of the Colossus edition
toblix replied to Sno's topic in Video Gaming
Aaand I'm out. I started on the third one, and after swimming over to and climbing the huge thing, and unsuccessfully trying to jump across to the other thing four times, I realise I really don't have the patience for this kind of gaming anymore, especially when I've already completed the game once before. I'll be following the discussion in this thread closely, though. -
I seem to remember the «poor VHS transfer» effect popping up a lot of places around the same time. Is it a readily available After Effects filter at this point?

So what is everybody looking forward to in 2013? I was feeling a bit depressed after Far Cry 3 turning out to be such a big disappointment, but then I found this, which cheered me right up again. No doubt a lot of 2013 games won't be out until 2014, but there's just so much great stuff coming, in every genre and in every scale – if you can't find something in there to be excited about, I guess that's fine ... but I bet you will! Oh, and probably the new consoles, which could turn out to be totally fucking sweet or completely god damn terrible. Nintendo already did their weird thing with the Wii U – will the weird Xbox rumours turn out to be true? Will MS and Sony unveil powerful gaming boxez, or cheaper Apple TV-like Netflix NFL gadgets that run "apps?" WHAT ARE YOUR PREDICTIONS HOPES AND FEARS

It's moot, because data is never safe on any hard disk, whether it's magnetic or solid-state. If you care about your data, you should back them up. RAID is not a back-up, and an external hard disk is not a good solution either, based on my experiences. I would probably go for a cloud-based one unless my files were impractically huge.

Hey, thanks! I'm not actually going myself, (at least not this time,) but I'll pass on the advice. Food-wise, I understand the pizza is supposed to be particularly magnificent – is that an actual fact, or a terrible, malicious lie? And other than the aforementioned pizza pie, is there something you just gotta try in Chicago? Is there a famous Chicago shake, burger, cut of meat, soup or stew?

The Cave: Ron Gilbert's Double Fine Game (A Tim Schafer Production) (Not Double Fine Adventure)
toblix replied to Nappi's topic in Video Gaming
I really want to love this game, and it looks great, but there's SO MUCH TRAVERSAL, and that makes experimenting such a chore. Instead of having a good time trying various solutions (which apparently is only interesting if it's the correct one, since failure only results in a shrug,) I find myself constantly working to minimise traversal time, carrying objects around all the time and weighing the probability against something working against the schlep. And the minecart puzzle ... -
Okay, thanks! Forum of the year over here.

Yeah. It was working fine, and then suddenly it's like it literally doesn't exist. With a solid state drive it's even worse, because you can't hear anything, so you're even more in the dark.

I was wondering - what would a Chicagoan thumb recommend for visiting people, in the way of sights, museums, foods and so on?

Speaking of hard disk fail, the other day I turned on the computer and the BIOS was like «hey buddy, you gotta have a bootable disk here or I can't do anything!» and I was like «but what about the one I've used every day for the last couple of years?» and nothing. So I had to buy a new disk and reinstall Windows, and you know when you've just reinstalled windows and it comes up in that ultra-low resolution? SUCKS

Teleglitch is great. I'm worried that the seemingly brutal checkpoint system will make me give up, but I hope it won't. The exploration and combat is satisfyingly intense.

I've always regretted getting rid of all my computer magazines, so my joy was great when I discovered that someonehad been busy scanning them, and many others, and putting them up for download as a «bit torrent». It's so great browsing through them again – I wonder how much of my brain is being used to remember all this stuff.

Apparently Paul Cuisset has gotten tons of money from France to make another Flashback game, most likely a HD remake. Maybe it'll look something like this:

Has this latest Xbox leak been confirmed in any way?

I've never not failed to not be missing from the group of people who have ever not disagreed with you. Ever. -

All this should go in the «Games about the relative greatness of which we're in disagreement» thread. -
I've seen that picture a bunch of times, and I wonder if it's a functioning and genuinely useful stack of adapters or whatever they are. Does each element fulfil a purpose, or is it just a console version of plugging together a million power converters?

Man, fuck S7-4. Fuck S7-4. edit: Right after posting that I tried again and completed it easily.
