  1. The Last of Us

Did they ever "turn" from strictly human encounters to this new Mario with guns approach? I thought the concept had been all along that there was this zombie-like thing going on, and you would face both the victims of that and other, desperate non-infected on your way to the tall skyscraper where these games inevitably end up because of the Citadel in HL2.
  2. Xbox 720

Apparently this thing "leaked" today: http://www.scribd.co...h6rubjxuj1kp24x. Highlights include: Some sort of glasses The usual new focus on the XBox as being A LOT OF STUFF LIKE NFL FOOTBALL AND YOUR FAVORITE SHOW plus some video games They envision 6–8 CPU cores, a single GPU, 3 PPC cores for backwards compatibility and, get this, 4 GB RAM. Enough focus on silence to make me hopeful "watch footballscores with an NFL ticker as you play Gears of War 5" Focus on doing the same thing on multiple devices/screens A picture of happy people showered in dollar signs A picture of a kid playing with a baseball controller too damn close to the television Business jargon Nothing's confirmed, but it seems reasonable enough to be real, and not so crazy as to clearly be a fake.
  3. Resident Evil 6: President Evil

If you like shit and and the texture and consistency of shit and love (people turning into) monsters made out of shit, and you're only going to buy one game this year, RE6 has got you covered.

  5. Nintendo 3DS

Since I can only ever play one game at a time on a console, I'm currently playing VLR on my 3DS. I'm really looking forward to Luigi's Mansion – from the little I've seen it has an attention to detail that's literally outtta control.
  6. Nintendo 3DS

My guess would be that they didn't know that (or were unsure whether) they could just put it in any of their Nintento-made handhelds of literally the last eight years, no matter where they bought them, and play it without any problems whatsoever. It's a common form of communication. edit: This message wasn't intended to be that snarky. I'm not sure I understood your comment though.
  7. Nintendo 3DS

    Thanks, NERD.
  8. Nintendo 3DS

I have this asshole guy on Steam who keeps sending me creepy images of his bodies. Anyway, he just got a 3DSXL, and wondered if my US-imported copy of 999 that works on my 3DS will automatically work on his Dutch 3DSXL. Does anyone know if it will, or if there is some nerd database that will tell me somewhere?
  9. Xbox 720

Everything will be revealed May 21st. Glad to hear the rumours say it will be relatively expensive, i.e. powerful, since that will mean another burst of graphics awesomeness in all games. Next year, we'll all be able to cut off individual fingers with our chainsaw-gun, and all the tendons will be all sweet.

  11. DuckTales Remastered?! WOOHOO!

    Too soon.
  12. Mark of the Ninja

This game was published on XBLA today, and I only found it because I knew it was out – there was no sign of it anywhere other than in the «new games» subcategory. It's the latest game from the Castle Crashers people (a game I haven't played), so it has a lot of smooth animation and flair, and it's a stealth platformer with some strategy and challenges. There's a story about ninjas or whatever, and you sneak, climb, hide and jump your way back and forth through pretty, multi-pathed 2D levels, avoiding, distracting, killing and hiding guards. There's this Gish-like vision system, where the game traces player and NPC vision, along with light sources, so you can see where you'll be seen, and what others will be able to see. Anything outside your field of vision is indicated by «last seen» indicators, like in Splinter Cell. Sound, which is important, is visualised pretty neatly and clearly, so you can make informed decisions about whether some crazy stunt will get you got. Also, there's the obligatory time-freeze ability that lets you line up actions and then perform them ninja-fast. As you move around each level, there are collectible challenges, like collecting scrolls and other artefacts, and other challenges like never sounding alarms, etc. I've only played the first level, but so far I'm impressed by the level of polish and potential for collectibles-obsession.
  13. LucasArts is no more

If someone put a gun to my head and forced me to pick a favourite game, Fate of Atlantis would probably be it.
  14. Netflix

So, after watching two episodes of House of Cards from The Pirate Bay, I think to myself «hey, I would like to watch more of this – I should try paying Netflix for access to all the episodes!» Turns out, Netflix doesn't actually hire web people, and they only have this one guy who can sort of get something working, but it's still utter shit. Does anyone know if they have the same user interface globally, or if I'm being subjected to a terrible UI experiment? It has a language menu that does nothing except warn me that not all contents is available in English, and even if I confirm my choice, everything is still in Norwegian. Every time I start watching a new thing, it reverts to showing Norwegian subtitles. Storing my selection somewhere would be like the first assignment in any web development class. Also, it keeps fucking using half the screen to nag me about connecting to fucking Facebook. The video stuff itself works fine – everything else I feel I could do better in a few weeks.

    More like MONEY Island!!! ZYNG!

  17. 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

I imported mine from the US and played it on my Nintendø 3DS. I loved it except for the part where most of your time is spent re-solving puzzles and skipping old dialogue. It has some really weird, conflicting design decisions with regard to how you're supposed to reach all the endings. Choices you've made earlier are grayed out, but that doesn't really mean anything, since you'll need to select a lot of choices multiple times to reach the true ending. You're more or less forced to consult a FAQ to get the true ending, if you're not prepared to spend literally tens of hours doing the same stuff over and over again, trying various combinations of choices, some of which are crucial and some irrelevant. Of course, it ties nicely in with the story, which makes it more okay sort of. Also, I fucking love how looking up skirts is the most important thing in the world. There is no situation too serious or grave to try to catch a lil' peek. I started on VLR last night, and am happy to see it too has a big-canned lady that is ALMOST COMPLETELY NAKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON.
  18. Tomb Raider

Finished it. Like always, I keep going for that 100% collectible bullshit that only ruins the whole game for me. Right before the big climax I put everything on hold and went back to all these vast, deserted bunkers, villages and cave systems looking for books to read, eggs to pinch and dream-catchers to shoot (for some reason.) Also, I got all the GPS markers, but didn't really figure out what it was all about Also also, the list of Tomb Raider/Lara Croft fansites in the credits is wild. It really felt like they went from doing an open-world survive-em-up to a linear unchart-em-up at some point in the development. Maybe they found out they couldn't really do a proper open-world thing with the narrative they wanted, or some suit told them to change everything. The result is strange – you have this really visible way of traveling between the camps – it's one of three choices whenever you sit down at a campfire – but there is literally no point in doing that unless it is to get the collectibles. Fast traveling is only provided as a meta-game function, since the story and order of locations are completely linear. Anyway, I appreciated that her clothes weren't ripped all the way off by the end. Things are moving forward.
  19. Thumbs at GDC?

I would hug the shit out of you and you would never see it coming. Maybe next year?
  20. This game is amazing. The whole intro section is so good, and the graphics are even more beautiful than Last Crusade. Also, some much needed GUI improvements. Also this: Maybe the best idea ever in the history of games.
  21. BioShock Infinite

Well holy framerate, if this isn't the most beautiful game I've ever seen. Some shots from the first twenty or so minutes. I love AAA game intro sequences; So. Many. Assets. I'm glad to see they've gotten rid of most of the clunkiness of Bioshock too – it really feels solid and polished so far. My only regret is that I'll probably have to start warfighting soon, but who knows – maybe that'll be awesome too!
  22. BioShock Infinite

    UNLOCKED
  23. BioShock Infinite

Based on some good reviews, I've preordered it so I can preload it. There's mention of a twist in the end – If it turns out Elizabeth was imaginary all along, I'm going to do an angry rant on GDC 2014.
