  1. The Geneology of Games

Well, there is of course Dune II, which is the mother/father of every RTS game in existence, and Wolfenstein, which is the mother/father of every FPS game in existence.* And is Gorillas.bas the mother of Scorched Earth which is the mother of the Worms games? But yeah, I felt the LBA/LBA2 force was very strong with this game. Perhaps it's the frenchness or something. *I bet someone will come up with even older RTS or FPS games.
  2. Approximately like so: INT ROOM - DAY Isaac: Holy smokes, that new computer game Project Gordon that I just finished was a blast. I'm so glad quality computer entertainment products like Project Gordon are freely available on the 'net. Prothemeus, the homogenous paste: Well, since you're done with Valve's free arcade game Project Gordon, what sort of computer game will you turn to now for those lonely Saturday nights? What game, Isaac? Isaac: I guess I'll just have to load up Valve's Steam framework software interface and see what other games are available for me to play. Also, since Project Gordon was completely free, I naturally assume that all other games on Steam also are free too, as well, and I'm one of those people who always click 'OK' on all dialogue boxes without even reading them because doing so makes them go away. Hmm, what's this...'Half-Life 2'? ISAAC clicks on the Half-Life 2 button, and, since he's one of those people who always click 'OK' on all dialogue boxes without even reading them because doing so makes them go away, he also, accidentally, agrees to pay money for Half-Life 2. FADE OUT
  3. Ghost Master

    We'll see, we'll see...
  4. BUY games? what are you, stupid?

Oh, I agree, but just for the argument's sake: does downloading a game constitute a more serious crime? To paraphrase: is downloading a game more illegal?
  5. People are clearly supposed to play this game, and then, after being awestruck by its immersing gameplay, clever puzzles and realistic AI, find out about another game Valve has published, namely Half-Life 2, which, incidentally, they are charging money for. It's the typical "the first one is free" philosophy of the common drug dealer. That's right, Valve are dealing drugs. Computer drugs.
  6. BUY games? what are you, stupid?

Whoa, Nelly! I was just thinking out loud. Of course there's a big difference between downloading a game and cracking a legally purchased one, I'm just saying that maybe, in the eyes of the law, it wouldn't matter. I'm no lawyer, but maybe one of the people here who are (I estimate approx. 15-20% are) could tell me. Is there a legal difference between downloading a cracked game or buying it and then cracking it? I mean, aren't you just buying a license to play the game or something anyways? Wouldn't you just be breaking the EULA or whatever it's called either way?
  7. BUY games? what are you, stupid?

Well, then one can say that since the publisher insists on making me a criminal just for making the game I bought playable (which isn't overstating it, since changing disks to play is a classic from the early 90s, and lots of times the copy protection reduces performance or even crashes the game), I might as well become a criminal for free...
  8. Just what ARE you playing right now?

Life has its good sides and bad sides, and I feel it's a good example of a good design being poorly implemented. I give it three out of five stars*. Note:There's talk of a patch, and a sequel. Pros: + Excellent graphics, although that varies from player to player (some players claim not to have graphics at all) + Lots of sub-quests. Most of them aren't fed-ex quests either. + Gradual learning curve. + I hear the sex is great. Cons: - Very unforgiving gameplay. There's plenty of risk in everything from dialogue and combat to crossing the street to toasting loaves of bread while taking a relaxing bath. - Dialogue and interaction system is too complicated. - The money system is too complex. - I miss a good storyline. Subquests are great, but so far it's been too non-linear. *Note that this review is based on having just played the first 20 or so years. In the country my player started in there's supposedly 76 years of so of play time before the end.
  9. Just what ARE you playing right now?

Silent Storm and Thief 3. And the day-to-day game I like to call... ...life!
  10. BUY games? what are you, stupid?

It seems to me that a person has to be unbelievably and unrealistically idealistic to go buy a game if he or she already has the whole thing on his hard drive, unless there's something besides a good conscience to be gained (online play, etc.)... I mean, you already have the game. Can a human have so big a heart as to actually pay tens of US-American dollars, hundreds of Norwegian kroners, thousands of Belgian francs, ten thousands of Chilean pesos, hundres of thousands of Colombian pesos or millions of Ecuadorean sucres, only to gain a plastic box and a flimsy advertising leaflet for another game?
  11. Where are you from?

Isn't Mixnmojo some LucasArts fan site or something?
  12. Is GameSpot Complete worth it?

I know plenty of guys who'd pay for some skin. *Ba-dum--PSH!*
  13. Hey, it wasn't that bad. I was in fact positively surprised, although that may have something to do with the fact that I wasn't expecting much. The effects were cool (New York being destroyed is always entertaining), there weren't any really terrible moments in the movie (as I remember) and the ending wasn't as crap as it had the potential to be. I mean, compared to Will Smith in Independence Day, this was brilliant stuff!
  14. Unreal Engine 3.0(56ker's BEWARE)

What the hell is that picture?
  15. Unreal Engine 3.0(56ker's BEWARE)

God damn! Of course, actual levels or characters won't look anywhere near this good in actual games for a long time, but I'm still impressed with what a graphics card can do in real-time nowadays. I wonder what graphics will be like in ten or fifteen years. Or gameplay, if there still is such a thing.
  16. Hot Gaming Tip #1

Word to the wise: Don't start up Silent Storm when the fan on your graphics card isn't rotating. All sorts of weird shit will start happening, your computer eventually freezes, and when you restart everything is screwed up.
  17. SW: KotOR -- HK-47

So, after finishing KotOR evilly, I start reading some FAQs and stuff to see what I missed, and everywhere there's this talk about how cool HK-47 is and how great his story and dialogue is. Now, I had 0 ranks in repair, so I couldn't get much information out of him, and I'm not going to play the game over again, so is there a way for me to read this supposedly great dialogue, or at least read his supposedly exciting back-story? Also, I found it a bit lame that even though I was the most evil being possible in the game, everyone still acted as though I was really nice. They should at least have included two different paths throught the game. In fact, there should be a law requiring all Star Wars games to have two distinctly different paths throught the game; one light, one dark.
  18. Well, that explains a lot.
  19. When did you break your first joystick?

I don't think you'd say that after a taking a thorough beating from a pair of burly men, each brandishing a Sidewinder Force Feedback joystick. In fact, I don't think you'd say anything.
  20. Reasons why Steam is useless and bad

Well, I have just bent over and installed it, expecting Valve to penetrate me with the giant meat sausage that is Half-Life 2. I expect that, without Steam firmly rooted in the very depths of your file system, you won't even get the HL2 disk anywhere near your computer.
  21. Stuff like this is likely to make me becoma a bitter, lonely old man.
  22. Didn't I hear stuff a couple of years ago about new people taking over control of LucasArts, and they having intentions of going back to the roots and breathe life into old franchises and stuff, or was that just one of those dreams I have that were so non-spectacular I actually start thinking they really happened?
  23. Those were the days, when game credits looked like this: Programming, music, sound, graphics Johnny Delicious ...and not like this: Executive Producer Herve Caen Best Boy Hugh Mann Assistant Marketing Director, Japan Jesus Christ Driver for Mr. Nukem Lo Chen Wu ...and so on.
  24. Yeah, Stunts was great. Corkscrews and jumps and stuff... I also liked Trackmania too, as well, but that's just me. This is a great Stunts thread.
