  1. Locomotion demo out.

So, I've been playing the full version for a while (12 years, it says!), and I'm lovin' it™. Especially I'm lovin' the fact that it has scenarios that you can complete, i.e. goals, which the lack of makes me tire quickly of games.
  2. The Holocaust (of flies, though)

I'd set them on fire. It doesn't leave evidence, and it shows them who's boss.
  3. Tropico

Yes, but that's not good enough for me. I want all the songs. In fact, give me all the songs... or give me death!
  4. Tropico

Startopia ruled. Also the music did that too. Too bad there's no soundtrack available.
  5. In case you missed it on Ron's Weblog...

This thread must be fashioned out of pure gold!
  6. Your best xbox game.

Three words: Silent Hill 2. Okay, that was two words and a number, but Mr. T sez it's all right. - It's all right.
  7. Too bad my Logitech keyboard prevents me from completely randomizing key placement. The F and J keys have different sockets, as does the 5 key on the numpad. The bastards...
  8. Locomotion demo out.

    I'll do even better! Here!
  9. Splinter Cell 3

What the Hell kind of shiny stealth suit is that?!
  10. Fame and Fortune for The Thumb

    :sombrero:AWESOME!
  11. Well, apparently it sold well enough to warrant an expansion pack.
  12. I had a dream...

The storage room ravaging sequence in Beneath a Steel Sky is pretty cool, where you get access to a storage room and take all these cool items, and when you leave the guy (can't remember his name) stops you and take them all back, with one exception of course.
  13. Playboy undressed videogame women

Yeah, think if it's great and sells really well because of the heavy marketing, and then people look for the earlier games and suddenly a tsunami of new adventure game fans appear! Then there'll be adventure games coming from everywhere, using the latest graphics technology and Hollywood actors!

    Thanks, tabacco!
  15. Yes.

    Congratulations!

So, who won? Also, just concatenating sounds clips and making it sound natural is a pretty awesome feat in itself, AI or no. At the train station in Milano, Italy there was this really cool automatic voice system that had a great flow. Also, the mentor advice thing in Chessmaster 10th Ed. (which I just started playing (it's fun!)) is also pretty cool, although the seams are obvious.

Have any of you played the old Delphine Software games for the Amiga, Future Wars and Operation Stealth? They used the standard Amiga voice synthesizer for all the dialogue in those, and it sucked big time. They hadn't even corrected the words that were pronounced all wrong. The games were cool, though.

Yes it is!* *I really don't have a clue.

Okay, what we need is a dictionary definition of the term 'artificial intelligence'. American Heritage says: The ability of a computer or other machine to perform those activities that are normally thought to require intelligence. Okay, I surrender. Responding intelligently is something one would asssume would require some sort of intelligence. In my first post, I was thinking more that in order for dialogue to be truly AI driven, the AI must see that the player's pants are down and calculate how that would fly with a normal peasant in that world, see how he would react to it and then put together gramatically correct sentences that would represent that. Stuff that isn't yet possible, in other words. So I guess my definition of AI is perhaps too strict, and that it should include things that appear to be AI, since that's probably the only thing we'll manage in the next thousand years. But now I want a separate AI forum.

Isn't this the exact opposite of real AI driven dialogue? I mean, if the dialogue was AI driven or AI generated you wouldn't need such a database, would you?

  24. Adventure thoughts by someone whose 'heart is not in it'

Although I haven't completed it, I didn't find the story very interesting. It didn't advance either for as far as I played it. The only "story elements" were the PDAs I found lying around and those contained either some emails or sound logs alluding to some mini story like a guy who skips work a lot or who receives spam, or messages saying basically "blah blah blah... anyway, the code to the locker right behind you is 3829". I'm not playing it anymore, as I find the surprise spawns right behind me starting to become less scary and more annying, like that infernal flash light juggling.
  25. Wow, this is like having a skillet taken to the back of my head, this movie just appearing without forewarning. Thanks!
