Nice! I just discovered Flash development with Flex Builder, which means I have all these cool game ideas I'll never get around to.
  2. Half Life 2: I'm really missing the point

Well yeah, of course there are discrete maps, but the transition was never more than a pause, and then you were still right there, not suddenly being air dropped into some battlefield, or fading from black to the back of a truck.
  3. Half Life 2: I'm really missing the point

I remember now that the first thing I'd mention when talking about how awesome HL1 was back in the day, was how cool it was that there's no interruptions, no missions and cut-scenes. From beginning to end you're always there*, and I loved it. I don't know if that's really what made me love it so much, but there's something only Valve does, which makes their games stand out and be liked by me 500% more than anything else, and I don't know if it's one or two particular things, or if it's just that everything's just so well designed. *Except when you're knocked unconscious
  4. Half Life 2: I'm really missing the point

I think the Half-Life games are one of the few games where every single second, from beginning to end, is totally awesome.
  5. Fallout 3

    NO!
  6. Fallout 3

Why? They could just set the focal width to ~infinity and viola, etc.
  7. Fallout 3

No, sorry about that. I actually knew about the zooming out thing, since it's been confirmed since forever. Maybe I forgot about it or something. Nonetheless the game'll be more fast-paced than before, though, and I can't imagine that being good.
  8. The pianist with Tourette's

Disappointing. It has some great ideas, but they're buried so deep you probably won't want to spend the time digging them up. If I saw it somewhere I might look at it.
  9. Just picked up the keys...

    ...to my new place. ((((((()))))))AWESOME((((((()))))))
  10. Just picked up the keys...

So... the delivery van came with all my appliances, and it turns out my fridge didn't fit inside. So they had to take it back and I have to pick another one.
  11. Just picked up the keys...

    Level up cooking, check.
  12. Deus Ex 3!

    What?
  13. Deus Ex 3!

Really? I feel the most awful game interfaces I've experienced have been the result of cross-platform games of later date.
  14. Fallout 3

I'm a huge Fallout fan and ejaculate forcefully whenever the word is uttered. To me what made the Fallout games great was a combination of a lot of elements: The dialogue, the violence, SPECIAL (the character progression model) and the combat system. It seems to me that Bethesda wanted to do "something different", some of them thought Fallout was a cool game and since they had a huge fucking pile of money they just went ahead and bought it, giving them a bit of foundation to build on, and some free hype/reputation. While I'm sure FO3 will be a cool game, I don't think it will contain the elements I find to comprise the very essence of Fallout. It will contain some, purportedly, like the dialogue trees (although it remains to be seen how good they are) and character progression system. The move to first person, though, is what makes me think they should probably just have gone with a new IP. The new perspective, together with the real-time combat will probably make this less Fallout-y and more action-y. Fallout combat was more like chess. Empirical evidence has shown that when real-time combat is introduced into Fallout everything ends up sucking more. Can Bethesda do this well? Maybe, but probably not. Of course, these are my opinions, and of course the quality of the game itself is independent of how "well" it continues doing anything at all, but for those who'll see and evaluate it as a Fallout game, I expect to be disappointed.
  15. Crock Band

It seems there's already two different versions out of both the guitar and the drum set. It seems to me that the problem is that when Harmonix left RedOctane, they also had to get their controllers elsewhere. Maybe whomever's making the Rock Band controllers don't know what the fuck they're doing. Hopefully there'll be improved hardware out by the time someone discovers Europe hasn't gotten the game yet. What the Hell? Guitar Hero III came out almost simultaneously there and here!
  16. Deus Ex 3!

Deus Ex 2 disappointed me so much I don't need a good reason to expect the third one to suck.
  17. Come and download some adventure games!

You ask too many questions, consumer.
  18. Crock Band

Yeah, I guess everyone agrees it's extremely fun, and the music selection seems to be more varied than the too-much-metal one of GHIII. I actually thought the first Guitar Hero had the best songs. I also expected that GHIII would have more varied music now that it's become so mainstream, but almost everything was this crazy metal music, and then it was over. Anyway, my point was going to be that it doesn't matter how fun Rock Band is if the instruments can't take a beating.
  19. Come and download some adventure games!

I'm guessing maybe some "fake" driver has been installed to emulate Starforce or something, I dunno. I just thought I'd mentioned it since I actually expected an old-school serial key based activation. The serial key I got I entered into the "protection driver" setup dialog.
  20. Come and download some adventure games!

I seem to remember even demos being released with Starforce. Anyway, my comment was based on installing Runaway: Dream of the Turtle. When running the game for the first time, it told me that it had to install "protection drivers". Clicking the "driver FAQ" (or something like that) button took me to a starforce page describing how to upgrade and uninstall Starforce, which, of course had to be done by downloading external utilities. edit: I checked my installed services, and now there's a service called "Runaway 2 Drivers Auto Removal (pr2ah6cb)" which is described as such:
  21. Come and download some adventure games!

...And also Starforce and a limited number of downloads and activations.edit: Apparently, like with Bioshock, the number of activations can be reset by getting another serial number from a company that will exist forever.
  22. DS Calibration

No, not the knife! I was kidding!
  23. DS Calibration

Have you checked for crumbs in the grooves around the screen? I seem to remember people fixing touch screen precision issues by scraping shit out with a knife or something.
  24. Futurama's Return: Bender's Big Fail

Jesus, so much hate! I didn't even know this was out yet, and just watched it yesterday. With all this hate I didn't know what to expect and was prepared to stop watching half-way because of not being able to withstand watching the wasted comedic potential or something. But I was pleasantly surprised. While it was not up there with the best episodes, and it seemed to suffer from being one long one and not three shorter ones, it was still up to snuff, which means a lot considering it's Futurama.
