Just finished this. Such a perfect game. It's truly the year of the indies for me. Both Braid and World of Goo have really impressed me. I really liked the tone of it, how they weren't afraid to play with anything, change stuff without warning. Also, the art and music touched my heart.

I'm a member, and it linked up to my account no problem. It has some additional "achievements" based on just racking up huge numbers on stats like distance walked and number of times wasted.

The Thief game series had a pretty heavy focus on sound. A lot of it uses (and requires) hardware acceleration like EAX, but my impression is that this stuff can now be done on the CPU as well, although I guess occlusion sound may be too demanding compared to whatever else you can get (most likely graphically) from the same cpu cycles. For some reason sound acceleration hasn't had the same development as graphics -- you still can't "expect" any form of hardware sound capability the way you can expect Direct3D (or I guess just DirectX now) or OpenGL support in a moden computer. The Half-Lives have pretty awesome material-specific sounds. Also, I guess maybe because it's known in the industry that 80% of allc computers have tinny shit speakers.

About the "casual hardcore" gamers, I've also noticed this. When interacting with them, I initially assume they're into games, and have them try all sorts of awesome shit, but even though the shit is -- objectively -- totally fucking awesome (Half-Life, for example), they're like "Meh". It's weird though -- there's no such thing as a person who's not into movies at all but watches one single movie over and over. Or is there?!

I say the 360 gang and the PS3 gang have a showdown in an alley somewhere. They can have denim vests, broken bottles, bandanas, etc.

I can only hope that the reason everyone's not posting in this thread right now is that they're busy with either: Playing World of Goo, Working closely with Valve on providing Steam users with a way for them to have their VAC ban lifted, or All three of these points.

I'm betting they're teaming up with Steam to provide a VAC unbanning service. It'll be all web 2.0, with a beta sticker on the logo, blogs about banning, links to flickr images and a podcast with key persons in the banning/unbanning industry, and under every little thing there will be an array of buttons for "sharing" it on various social web sites.

Hey, I didn't lose it. All the games are still playable. Currently, the only difference is that multiplayer games are limited to non-VAC-protected servers.
