  1. Dead Space

I've completed Chapter 1, and I'm giving this game up. I feel the same way about it as I did about Gears of War. It's more polished than most games, and I'm sure there are tons of awesome shit in it, but to me it just feels boring. Whenever I hit a save point I think it's a good place to call it a day, my mind subconsciously considering playing a chore. It's probably not a bad game, just not for me.
  2. FUUUUUUCK!!!

    Right you are.
  3. FUUUUUUCK!!!

Actually, it's two tries, and you can't really demand a refund. You can demand a new unit or that they repair the old one.
  4. PC Gaming

I have played games almost exclusively on the console the past months. So now, trying to start the first "large" game (i.e. not tiny and indie, etc.), I get a dialogue telling me "your graphics drivers are too old. Pleas update them", and I click OK and the game starts anyway and crashes my computer. I can't say I miss these things.
  5. Dead Space

For me that's a rage quit, but whatever. By the way, I'm liking the game more and more. One silly thing I experience quite a lot is going through a door or stepping out of a lift and looking around, and then the Hitchcock fright sound comes, and I hear some crazy ruckus, shit breaking and stuff, and I look around to see a monster standing there. Obviously I was supposed to be looking right at him as he made his dramatic entrance bursting out of the vent or something, but it seems these guys never heard of look triggers.
  6. Dead Space

I think I just do rage quits and fright quits.
  7. Dead Space

Well, I'm still not loving this. I can play it just fine, which is weird because I usually fright quit all the time playing games like this. It still reeks of generic sci-fi shooter, though, with the radio messages about repairing generic sci-fi machines and activating generators, and the sci-fi corridor base environment And the controls feel horrible and clunky. Still, there are some neat touches that makes me think there may be some kind of awesomeness ahead. It doesn't feel rushed -- the UI is awesomely fresh. And the stomping is awesome.
  8. Tomb Raider: Underworld

Yeah, I noticed she got covered in filth. I guess it's from swimming in the ocean and then climbing in bushes and on cliffs. I'm a huge fan of people being affected like that by stuff that happens to them. It's like dents and scrapes on a car, only with meat, hair and clothes.
  9. Tomb Raider: Underworld

Just played the demo for five minutes, just to get a feel for how the controls were, and how it looked. It looked great and controlled like a motherfucker. The moves are really precise and everything feels much snappier and immediate than in the previous games. I'm getting this no matter what. Also, it seems like after Assassin's Creed, all games in the world now have the character dynamically adjusting arms and legs when climbing.
  10. Very awesome, guys. You know, with both the Halo 3 Mythos Fan and the anecdote about how Far Cry: Instincts fucked your new speakers, I didn't miss the Molyneux impression at all, except right at the end when you mentioned it.
  11. Prince of Awesome

    Check this shit out!
  12. Dead Space

No thread with this title, might as well start one: Tits Stepping on shit Crazy new UI "You have to repair the tram!"
  13. Send us questions about games or stuff

You've read some questions from, what is it, NeoGaf or something? I've almost heard of it -- isn't it a big huge game forum community or something like that? Are they like the 4chan of games?
  14. Uncharted

Okay, just finished it. Great game, but one thing stood out: the ending. Let me tell you a little about the ending (without spoiling the story): Uncharted had what is probably the best action game ending structure I've ever experienced. Instead of placing some crazy-ass difficult challenge right at the end, like GTA IV did, they pulled back a bit on the difficulty and stuffed the end-game full of checkpoints. This made the sequence of events throughout the ending chapter flow nicely, without frustrating repetitions and rage quits. I was totally surprised by how the ending played out, and it really brought out the cinematicness that the game is all about and ended the game on a super-high note, leaving me wanting more immediately. Apparently Uncharted 2 will be out next year.
  15. Blu-ray region fucking shit

I'm so used to region-free DVDs by now, I was looking at the three-disc Blu-ray release of Wall-E to play on my new PS3. Then I see that it's region locked, and that the European release is only two discs. And the old region anger rises up in my like in the good old days. Why are they still doing this fucking shit? Why can I only buy a copy of a film that has less extras than the one they sell in another country? That is the kind of bullshit that makes me not buy their stupid discs.
  16. Midnight Club: Los Angeles

Cut-scenes? So, it has a story and stuff? I'm almost starting to be intrigued by this.
  17. Far Cry 2

The respawning enemies sounds like crap, but I still want to try it.
  18. Both with this season and the first, I've usually played the first game pretty quickly and then just downloaded the installers for the next ones as they come out, sort of wanting to play them but never really doing it until... something happens. Some unindentifiable value crosses some magical limit and then suddenly I'm all over them, ending up with too long of a wait for the last game. This last one was really excellent. I'm a sucker for time travel and variations on earlier stuff, and getting rid of the usual locales and getting a new hub really made this episode special. Tips to the developers (I know you're all reading the Thumb): even though I've turned down the music volume I'd like to hear the musical sequences at the full voice volume, so that they sequences don't sound retarded. Also, the season 2 hint Max is awesome. Having him set on the next highest setting usually provides me with a hint just as I consider doing something else. I used to avoid hints in games, but I realise that as the autumn of my years approaches I'll have to start using them if I'm going to complete any more games. Also, I really like the latest intro sequences... really flashy and awesome. Conclusion: This episodic thing is really working! And also watch this! edit: Holy shit, why didn't anyone tell me all the Sam & Max trailers are awesome!
  19. Midnight Club: Los Angeles

    Does it have pedestrians?
  20. I wish! But seriously, since there's no mention of this, and only the DLC. Has there been any word of any sequels, or if Rockstar is doing anything else? Looking at the GTA release delays they are: GTA -> GTA2: 1 year GTA2 -> GTA3: 2 years GTA3 -> GTA:VC 1 year GTA:VC -> GTA:SA: 2 years GTA:SA -> GTA IV: 4 years Holy shit, 2013 is going to rock. I'm marking it in my calendar! Depending on what the pattern is, holy shit, [2015, 2016, 2020, -1999,5] is going to rock. I'm marking them in my calendar!
  21. Midnight Club: Los Angeles

This is from Rockstar, right? What is it, some sort of open world racing game?
  22. Uncharted

... and back into the church. This has to be the most awesome location for me, combat-wise. There's the soldiers making their careful way towards me, covering behind pews and columns, covered from above by snipers. Then there's me, doing the same. I can't camp in the rear, because I need the ammo of the guys I kill, so I have to balance how close I let them come and how fast I'm willing to move forward. And peeking out from cover, the sniper's lasers immediately start to circle in. The enemy sniper mechanic is awesome. So simple and predictable, but it adds just enough tension.
  23. Dead Space

Anyway, I hate it when an awesome game comes that I know I have to play, but that is also going to scare the shit out of me. Like the Silent Hills, the Resident Evils (which reminds me, I have to pick up RE4 again, now that I have a Wii), and now this. I'm such a pussy, but I love horror. It tears me apart every day.
  24. Grand Theft Auto V Announced!

I had totally forgotten about that. When I played the top-down GTA games (I only played GTA and GTA 2 of those), I never even bothered with the missions, and just loaded it up for multiplayer or just racing mayhem. How good was the story and how was the structure, difficulty, etc. in those games compared to their 3D sequels?
