  1. Let's Draw Video Games

So that's what it's going to be like when I open up and show you my art? Wow, I guess this community really has changed.
  2. GTA V

I don't get why everyone complains so much about the GTA IV cars. Sure, at first they feel sluggish, but you quickly get a handle on them, and the model makes all the vehicles feel very real, and the sweeter cars stand out more.
  3. GTA V

This is pretty much the best GTA V news I've heard. THOUGHTS: If I get the game for multiple platforms (to be able to play with all the Thumbs,) will my online stuff be synced, or do they have separate implementations per platform? I'm guessing it's universal, since they're already linking cross-platform stuff with Social Club. Only 16 players? I guess it's a fine number, but I was hoping for 32 since the old GTA IV on PC supports it. My goal is still to finish singleplayer before starting multiplayer ... we'll see. Though these previews often lay it on a bit thick, it really does sound like they've turned up the crazy level of detail up another whole notch.
  4. Scanning line art

In other words, this is software piracy. edit: What I mean is that it's important to know that downloading CS2 from Adobe without actually having bought it is piracy; they're not giving it away for free.
  5. Scanning line art

Didn't they not give away CS2 for free, but provide it as a download to existing customers because they were taking down the activation infrastructure?
  6. Nextbox 1080: The Reckoning

Apparently one of the reasons is localization. The localization of the Xbox 360 has been a fucking train wreck, so it'll at least be interesting to see if this makes it better or even worse. Also, as things stand now, this gives Sony at least a three or four month head-start in these countries, which was probably a hard decision to make.
  7. Papers, Please

It's very tempting, as looking up stuff is really time-consuming. I guess it's cheating, though, as clumsily leafing through rulebooks is one of the game mechanics.
  8. GTA V

The GTA story? But it's a new one every time ...
  9. Papers, Please

    Ah, okay.
  10. GTA V

    Isn't it just the G5A V 5P?
  11. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

I told you it was the best game!!! Reading this is so great, please keep updating us!
  12. GTA V

What I get from it is that they're at least planning for a PC release at some point. That they'd do it so soon after the console versions seems unrealistic based on previous games, doesn't it? On the other hand, maybe it's different now that it's so late in the console cycles?
  13. Papers, Please

I just discovered the branching save game structure. It looks to me like you can freely make multiple branches off any completed day, and it'll just grow without overwriting any existing "threads" you've got going ... is this right?
  14. GTA V

What what? PC version this fall? http://www.polygon.com/2013/8/13/4616858/gta-5-reportedly-coming-to-pc-this-fall-says-nvidia
  15. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

I've played about an hour of this, and so far it's been pretty much more of the same, only with 3D levels (the characters are still sprites, thank God!) and more mini-games.
  16. Great episode! I loved Danielle, and agree that the Saint's Row discussion maybe suffered a bit from the 'bargo, though imagining Chris' face as SR4 was being described («It's a parody of The Matrix!») made it worth it. I had the same sort of negative preconceptions of Saint's Row as Chris seems to have, built up over years of terrible porn star marketing and hearing stuff that made me consider it the «Pyst» of video games. Recently, however, I was tricked into co-oping SR3 it with Lucien, and found that, though many of my negative expectations were met, it didn't come off anywhere near as vile as the Tera Patrick marketing I had associated with it (recently, there was this interview about exactly this) and, though most of the humor was really broad and on-the-nose, it never really offended me, and there were some chuckles to be had. I don't see myself playing a SR game in single-player, and think Chris is not missing some great experience by skipping the series, but it really goes very well with the sort of crazy, ridiculous behavior co-op gaming tends to entail. Oh, and if you're considering Dwarf Fortress, you should maybe get some sort of guide, like Evan «DayZ» Lahti. If you watch the Giant Bomb videos in which the guy has read up on a DF book before starting, you'll see how truly lost you'll be coming into it without any guidance at all. edit: Ooh, an eight-pager!
  17. Papers, Please

Okay, so I only get paid for letting people through? Does that mean interrogation, detention, fingerprinting, etc. is just a waste of time, since it usually takes longer than just getting the next in line, or will it become a requirement at some point?
  18. Breaking Bad

Sure, the Mediahint plugin is great, though it's probably in the piracy category as well.
  19. Breaking Bad

Here's my entitled butthole rationalization of piracy: If, in 2013, in the age of the internet and fiberoptics, it takes them a week to get, from the US to the UK, an episode people will start discussing publicly within minutes of its initial airing, feel free to torrent the episode. I don't have the patience for their lawyers to call each other, or whatever the hell goes on during that week, or if it's a scheduling thing or something. I have a Netflix subscription (though I don't know if they'll send Breaking Bad on the Norwegian one,) and I'm not going to wait a minute longer than I have to. There have been some huge strides in digital distribution the last years, but Lord almighty, there's still miles to go.
  20. BioShock Infinite

Aaah, that makes sense and fits with my impression that the first half of the story was Booker only.
  21. The Big LucasArts Playthrough

    Good call.
  22. BioShock Infinite

Prediction: The first half will be goddamned spectacular.
  23. Papers, Please

Yeah, the story mode is interesting but frustratingly hard. I don't know anything about what being an actual immigrations officer is like, but all the little aspects of the game mesh very well and matches my preconceptions at least. Having to ask people to provide the correct papers, having too little space to work on, being annoyed at how every country has to have their own passport layout, wanting to do a proper job but really feeling the pressure to skip some of the trickier steps like date calculations and looking up cities – the mechanics are so good in their own right and also fit so well with the premise. It's also interesting to me to be forced to consider how my own low tolerance for frustration both enhances and detracts from the experience.
  24. Scanning line art

Yes, use PNG instead of BMP.
