Idle News Podblast: With Brutal Legend
toblix replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
This reminded me of how fantastic backwards sound can be. Also, you're doing a good job of being a podcast of both a regular hour+ of fun each week and the occasional shorter breaking news 'bargo 'splodin' newscasts. -
Is he announcing something completely new, or is it more Milo stuff?

Hey, that's cheating! Getting Xbox points for playing PC games... what is the world coming to?
-
Wow. I have no use or desire for a fighting stick, but I still want one of those.
-
Thanks, I'll check these out. Ear Force sounds kind of dumb, but I'm willing to look past that if they're good.

So, having used it a bit more, I have some bullet points: The iPhone is a joy to use. It's really responsive, everything's slick and intuitive. The games I've played have been really good: Zen Bound is amazing to me. I played the PC version and though the simple mechanic of it was awesome. It appealed to some base instinct. When I show it to others they wiggle the object for a bit and then lose interest. When I then explain that the goal is to cover the object in rope, they are not interested in trying again. Fieldrunners is the one I've played the most (about 250 waves in all). I've never liked tower defense games, but for some reason this feels just right. It's just hard enough, and gives me more money at just the right rate. Also, when I fail I feel that next time I'll beat it. I much prefer this over 7 cities and creeps. Cops & Robbers impressed me by being a fully 3D game with sound, music, animation, cut-scenes, etc. on my phone!!! Other than that it was okay. EDGE is awesome. Tap Tap Revenge feels sort of gimmicky. I guess it could be because I've played GH and RB and it feels like a lesser version, but I still use it to impress people, because it's pretty impressive. Textropolis and Bookworm have received much touching from me. I love word games, regardless of platform, and it's so nice to be able to just stop whenever, and then resume later. Duke Nukem 3D was cool to start up, seeing and hearing the memories on this little screen. The level opening with the crashing sound on the rooftop was great, but then I discovered the controls were terrible. edit: This will be fixed soon. Pinball Dreams & Fantasies -- I'm surprised nobody has mentioned these anywhere I've looked for recommendations. They're perfect ports of the Amiga games, with the same awesome music and feel. [*]I'm really happy with the iPod. I've used it to and from work since getting it, and combined with the on-lead remote I can pause and play and skip and adjust volume with ease. This isn't magic, I know, but I'm surprised at how much I liked this part of the phone. [*]The shake to shuffle doesn't work... [*]The voice recognition & synthesis is fucking incredible! Have you tried this? You just speak to the phone and it replies. It tells me the name of the artist and the song title. This is future technology, and I can carry it in my pocket! Currently I've set it up to sync contacts with gmail using Sync in a Blink, and Google Calendar with WebDAV. I've looked at NuevaSync, which sounds really awesome (basically a Exchange interface for Google mail, contacts and calendar). When they add support for contact groups I'm using that instead.

I seem to have read that the new Zune doesn't totally suck. I haven't really bothered to find out why not, having just bought an iPhone, but I seem to recall mention of it having a radio. Also I assume it has a 720p display. I guess they've already forfeited the game part, with the iPhone market having this ridiculous amount and rate of awesome games / apps coming out, and are maybe aiming for the media bit a bit more? Does anyone know if it still has that ridiculous "squirt" feature where you can copy a song to another guy's Zune and he can play it for three days or ten times or whatever?
-
Yeah, although I went a while with it on like 75%. Turning it on helped slightly, but it's still, uh, non-loud. I've long suspected I have a hearing problem, so it might be that. There should be a mini-amp you could plug between the controller and headset that boosted the sound. Ah well.
-
All right, J and TP. I'll keep a close watch and make sure to keep up. Currently the next game I've got lined up for the 360 is Forza 3, but if the going gets tough I'll probably play some shitty XBLA games.

OH LORD IT'S ON BITCHES!
-
Well, I'll definitely be watching your score, making sure I adjust for any changes.
-
Yes. I've never really cared about gamerscore (if that's what it's called) before, but when you pointed it out, it really got my competitive urges, uh, flowing?

My avatar's outfit was meant to be more of a statement on the debate over purchasable outfits than a dashing attire.
-
Okay, apparently I was wrong. Here's the text: I have more points than James!
-
Bonus info: Dominic Armato often sounds like Chris. OR IS IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND????
-
Sorry if it made it seem like I actually exploded in a murderous rage. I was only kidding.
-
Chris is easy to distinguish. It's Jake and Nick I sometimes confuse, especially when everyone is talking at the same time.

This is where Horse Bag comes in.

It's when this starts happening I stop playing a game. That is, when you stop playing the game and start explicitly optimizing everything towards the maximum success probability. It was the same in WoW, where it went from being awesome and fun, running around doing quests and getting fancy equipment to everyone doing the optimal sequence of raids, specing their character for optimal DPM, etc. I'm not saying this is the wrong way to play it, but it doesn't appeal to me at all.

HELLO FAGS Just so you know, the updated Xbox Live interface will have: Easier party inviting Automatic party reconnection if some shit happens and you lose connection Awesome, no? Also there's some other stuff, but that didn't interest me. Also, I'm sure you've all heard this, but apparently the reason for MS not upping the friend limit is to maintain compatibility with Halo 2.
-
Actually, I'm quite enjoying it so far. My biggest frustration is that saving takes about a minute, and since I'm paranoid about the game crashing I save all the time. Also, the sound compression is horrible. And the controls are dreadful. And the inventory and graphics suck.

Grand Thumb Auto XXVI: A Turbulent Wreturn
toblix replied to Wrestlevania's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Ah, what a great session of mayhem, except for the rocket match when I was still in my own party, hearing nothing but explosions and screams. Also, I think I've found a technique for making the prison sniper fests fun for everyone. Nothing tops off a prison riot like incoming combat helicopters. Plus, the firetruck race where I fucking won by being the best. I was behind the whole race, and then, in the final lap, to an imaginary soundtrack of Chariots of Fire, I slowly and steadily crept up behind Thwheht and right before the finish-- POW I passed him. Or whoosh, or whatever. In addition, the cops & rockets matches were great fun. That ambush you set up was brilliant. How long is it till Gay Theft Auto comes out? -
Not to be rude or anything, but when people link to iTunes items, I EXPLODE IN A MURDEROUS RAGE.
