Well, as often happens, I wasn't really interested in a game, and then someone here posts about it, so I buy it. Or I will when I get home.
-
What sucks about this is that, unlike on the Xbox and PS3, where we're now used to updates, this game is finished. Even if they've now realised the controls should be "fixed", there's nothing they can do about it.

Yeah, if you like joy, getting a DS is totally worth it by virtue, alone, of being able to play the Phoenix Wright games.

Right, sorry for being all defensive about it. Do you know of other games that has this same style of art, though, since you mention there being others? I was really impressed with this, especially since the two previous games looked like this: ... which isn't bad, but more like the various amateur adventure games I've seen around. This last one really screamed pro at me, and I'd be interested to play any other games with the same background artists. -
Any non-spoilerous hints as to what the bad parts are? I know you can't summon a cunt, but what other drawbacks are there?

Professor Layton game as a present for girlfriend?

I'm a bit annoyed by the puzzles that rely on you knowing what the art looked like before they reduced it to fit on the little NDS screen. Some of it's pretty ridiculous. But mostly the puzzles are great. -
Awesome, time warp extreme! So, wasn't there a new Bookworm game coming out soon? Oh, Wikipedia says it's a sequel, apparently out in July this year.
-
Whoa, whoa. Is that out yet? Awesome.

Totally. I still think LucasArts made the best adventure games in every respect. It's like they were operating on a wholly different level of quality than anyone else. It's not like Sierra, Kyrandia, Simon the Sorcerer, Broken Sword are bad at all, but LucasArts really were the Valve of adventures. -

Well I think they're fabulous. I get a Simon the Sorcerer vibe from the first one, and a Police Quest III vibe from the second one. Maybe I'm just too in love with huge pixels to see clearly. Anyway, anyone else play the Blackwell games? What did you think? -

Yeah, I also understand what he's talking about, but I don't see it. I mean, I see the antialiasing (which I guess I insinuated I didn't), but I don't think it hurts the graphics at all. -

Do you wear vaseline-smeared glasses or something? Those images are awesome. -

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about those images? -
NO GET BACK IN YOUR CHAIR AND WRITE JOKES!

No problem. Now get back to making awesome games that I can purchase.

Yeah, that works for me. In Firefox I got a .html filename when I did that, but you can just rename that to .mp3. Also, unless you need it for something (having an Android I guess it's not iTunes) I'd remove Quicktime from my computer. And then burn the computer.

So I've played through The Blackwell Legacy and Blackwell Unbound, and I just started up the third (and last?) game, The Blackwell Convergence, and holy shit, this is like stepping into a time machine and going back to the awesome days of sweet 90s Sierra graphics. The two first games had passable graphics, but this one looks absolutely beautiful. It's low-res, but highly detailed, with fantastic shadowing and colours. Suddenly I pause to look at everything. I don't know what caused the shift in graphics quality for the third game, but I hope it continues. I mean, look at this: This is how adventure games should look. -

This is pretty awesome. It's like spam McCarthyism. edit: Just to be clear. I also thought it was a bot.

I was only kidding. I know only most Americans are lazy.

I bought one, but their shipping is slow as a show, so I don't think it's even left LA yet. Typical American laziness.

What, am I too late? Congratulations!

I think the title is too intellectual. How about something more straightforward and down to earth, that people can actually understand without getting a degree in intellecualism? My Trials HD playing has been eschewed by the Bat Man, X-Files, some Wadjet Eye Games games, Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton (not Henry Hatsworth), but I agree it's pretty great. Not greatest ever -- that would be Commandos 2 or Half-Life 2 or something -- but really great. For me, the whole key to its greatness lies in its quickness in letting you restart when you mess something up. If they'd waited another half a second or something I wouldn't've played it anywhere as much as I have.
