Grand Thumb Auto XXXIV: It's sometimes too early.
toblix replied to ThunderPeel2001's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I'm betting you (and me) will be disappointed. Apparently they're not even doing anything new with multiplayer in Gay Tony. It'd be awesome, though. A lot of the multiplayer stuff in TLAD would be awesome to have as one-off things in our regular matches, like the motorcycle chase. The fact that you have to basically restart the whole game to access those things is really stupid. -
Never heard about it till now, but it looks pretty cool. That timer thing sounds pretty lame, though.

I remember being blown away at how great Anachronox looked, especially the camera and animation. Didn't it use a heavily modified Quake engine or something? Anyway, whatever it used, it had some awesome animated sequences. I also remember getting stuck at one point and giving up, which still annoys me, since the game was so great. However, learning that the game has a frustrating cliffhanger, maybe it was all for the best.

Good game, everyone! -
I've played this for about an hour, and holy shit is this thing smooth. It's slick. It's polished to a mirror sheen. Its appearance is flawless. Hello, awesome hand-drawn pixel art with smooth animation! Hello awesomely well translated, hilarious dialogue. Hello novel game mechanics. If you have even just a little of your inner child left, buy this game. It's fun and makes you smile.

My name is on a couple of gravestones, which has to mean I'm part of the Arcanum canon.
-
I think this is where I mention that I'm in Arcanum. Also, I can confirm that Vampire: Bloodlines is pretty cool. It got impossible at one point, but I was able to finish it using god mode.

Apparently, only the "roots" of the invite trees get more invites now. So, if you got an invite from someone who invited you, you don't get any invites to hand out yourself. Or something

So is this the one tonight? -
I had nightmares for ages from when the guy's eyes pop out. That, and the robot-chick scene in Superman 3.
-
Glad you liked it! When people complain about having to fight the bad guys, I wonder if some might be thinking they have to defeat all the guys. I seem to remember it was pretty clear where you had to get them all, and in most places, even if a school of guards come rushing in, boss-battle style, you could usually just wall-run and jump past them all.

No, but I'm such a pussy that the extreme volume spikes that happen right after the silent moments scared me shitless, even though I knew they were coming, so I temporarily turned it down for them. I guess I'm not a fan. I really liked the Evil Dead films, and I really like his weird mix of comedy and horror. The fact that he doesn't necessarily alternate between them but use both at the same time makes for some sweet moments, like the face-sucking scene. I forgot to mention this, since I always start shitting all over everything when I post, but the whole fight scene in the parking garage was totally amazing, and I really enjoyed the gross stuff (except the unnecessary CGI one I mentioned). Also, you're right that the film is extremely well-produced. When I start thinking about stuff I liked, the whole grave-scene was amazing as well. Just the whole set and the action in it... really good.

Exactly. THIS WILL BE THE LAST POST

Yeah, my point was that the debate has some assumptions that are not mentioned, human-readability being one, reading left-to-right another. Although I would also prefer if everyone in the world used Y[...]Y-MM-DD, it's because it matches the left-to-right increasing precision I'm used to with time formats, not because one format is necessarily better than the others. Very good point.

Oh man, Waxworks! I never played that, but I read a review somewhere that mentioned it had some gruesome contents. I wanted to play it so bad! edit: Jesus.

Really? I found that to be one of the film's few redeeming qualities. The old lady's phlegm, vomiting bile and worms and blood? You don't remember any of that? I found Drag Me to Hell's scare scenes to be really awful. They were all built around the same model: Something scary starts to happen, Crescendo as the tension rises, Complete silence for about five seconds, then BOO! It got really predictable and I had to keep turning the volume up and down while watching. Not really being a fan, or knowledgeable of, 80s horror films, maybe the film wasn't for me, but more of a throwback? I prefer more creepy, disturbing and gross, and less shock in my horror films, but I'm such a wuss, too.

Just watched an episode of the X-Files called First Person Shooter. I saw it back then, but today it was this awesome flashback of the 90s approach TV took. It has it all: Clunky visors: Lame UIs: S&M ninja chick: Rotating wireframe of S&M ninja chick: Mulder in lame cyber outfit: Multiple cyber copies of S&M ninja chick in cowboy costume: S&M ninja chick in cowboy costume and tank:

edit: Sorry, missed a page break, post irrelevant.

Yeah, you totally narrow it down as you read it from left to right, and it makes sense when compared to hour:minute:second:millisecond:etc, but you could take your processing method and make an even better format then. After all, you have to read four digits before you know the year. If we wrote it like this: 419901011 , the first digit indicating how many of the following digits indicated the year, it would make for an even better gradual understanding. Now we'll only have to red two digits to know that we're in the year interval 1000-1999. Chronological sorting of calendar dates is one obvious area where a format with decreasing precision makes sense, but usually you're still reading the whole date, right? Not only that, but if one is using the argument that it's easier for computers to sort (not saying that you did), we should use something like this: 60616508400000 , where the whole thing is the number of milliseconds since 1970 began, or something. If we used a signed integer we could represent every possible millisecond (or whatever resolution we want), and it would be super easy for the computer to sort. Anyway, the whole thing about date formats is that, unless you're going to attach whatever format you use with every date you write, you'll have to use the one that everyone agrees on. No point in using the most logical format, if everyone reads it the wrong way.
-
And you don't know where they've been.
-
Only assuming: You're able to use the information as you're receiving it You're reading it left-to-right. Incomplete and less specific information is useful. Since this is rarely the case, I'd say all fields are equally important. Hence, the date format is irrelevant as long as you know which one to use.

Childhood video game acquirement stories are the best. It was like a magical adventure from the moment you saw the box to the moment you started it up (and beyond!). Looking at the back of the box, reading the manual, being awestruck by the awesome cover art. Back then I'd go look in a store to see if any new games had come out. Now I know everything about it a year before its release, and the purchase is just another step in the process. I'll be among the first who buy a machine that plays games for me.

Just watched Drag Me to Hell. What a dumb and disappointing film. I've heard so much rave about this, I kept thinking it was supposed to be lame initially, with its awesomeness being suddenly revealed, but before I knew it the film was over. I think the most disappointing scene was the one in the wake where they clearly used CGI instead of real goo. I mean, when your whole film is based around gross slime, don't fake it in the computer. Go stir some shit in a bucket or whatever it is you do.
