The rainbow effect drives me crazy, but from my limited experience, most people either never notice it, or do notice it but don't care.

I'm worried that everyone will be spread across five different platforms because four of them aren't allowed to play with others. Also, is it just me or is the coloring of map items really hard to see? I swear some of the question marks are white, but when I reach one I am the wrong character.

I haven't seen buildings pop in and out since, so that's a definite improvement. The framerate is still weirdly uneven, though, but I guess that's deliberate, to make me hungry for the proper, next-gen versions.

Okay, so in two days they announce the hardware, and two days later HL3. Smart move.

I was assuming it'd be 24 hours between the first and second and second and third thing, but what if I was wrong all along?!

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated

Dropbox doesn't really do anything with the files. Do you mean they look wonky when looking at them in Dropbox? If so, that's probably because lots of software explode when graphics aren't in RGB, including whatever Dropbox is using to render the PSD files. -
OH SHIT. I did that thing where I confirm that the Steam event fires, then join the Mumble server and hop into an idle channel until enough people join. If, after thirty minutes, there aren't enough people to play, I consider it canceled and find something else to do, like playing Gun Monkeys. It's too bad if enough people are ready to play, but aren't on the Mumble server, since I probably won't contact people individually to get things going. I've rescheduled for tomorrow, so if you're able to make it, please join the Mumble server around the scheduled hour so it doesn't look like it's only three guys.

I bet they're prohibited from letting users mingle across platforms. -
Maybe back to Monday and see if we can switch every other week? I sort of missed Wrestle, even though he's never very pleasant.

Hah, I am so over GTA IV now that the sequel is out. Have fun playing your five year old PC game losers! Hahahahah!

Wikipedia Brown came through as usual! I started the Bluray version, and it installed itself and resumed my last save. I wonder if I'll actually see a performance difference, and if I do, was it the rebuilding or the Bluray?

I just found out it's not just the real money auction house they're closing. This makes things more interesting, but I'm not sure by how much.

Since their online presence is going to be too covered in severed ghost arm baboo joke search results for them to successfully be able to market anything, I bet this is just a decoy honeypot company. -
Okay, so restoring the file system and rebuilding the database took like ten minutes, and I noticed maybe a slight improvement. It makes total sense that the streaming engine works best when it can read from both disc and disk simultaneously, so I'll take Wikipedia on his word and look for the physical version tomorrow. Of course, it would be interesting to know if it would be even faster with a super-fast SSD, but I'm guessing my old PS3 wouldn't be able to take enough advantage of modern disks to compensate. It's cool that console gaming is so simple!

Yeah, I was thinking of the cases where you start a race and then fudge it right off the bat, and then to restart you have to flip your car or run away or something. Seems weird that there isn't an option for this anywhere in the menus. Oh, and I'll try the file system thing.

Well shit: This is totally what I'm getting. Between this and the problems with installing the play disc on Xbox 360, it looks like Rockstar has optimized for optical media, and wasn't prepared for hard disk installs. Since there wasn't a day 0 patch, I hope they'll fix this shortly. Also, I bet that becasue shit sucks, if I got the Blu-ray version of the game, I wouldn't be able to continue where I left off with the PSN one. And since everything is marketing secret, I don't know if they even can fix the PSN version – maybe not being able to stream simultaneously from hard disk and Blu-ray is too limiting. At this point I'm very close to waiting for a PC/next-gen release. What a disappointment.

Was this, either directly or in hindsight, referenced at all in the latest podcast? -
Wait, wait, wait. They improved on all the things from GTA IV, and then forgot to add a «restart mission» button?

This is pretty sweet. I wonder when we'll hear more, and whether they formed around a specific project, or something less concrete, like the goal of revolutionizing the way we consume digital entertainment.
