So, I'm about ten hours in now, and I've formed more of an opinion: Not as awesome as Partners in Time, but still great. Not a fan of the stylus stuff -- either it's pointless (like the giant fight sequences) or frustrating due to bad controls (the smelling mini-game). The main thing that is irking me though -- it feels as though I'm constantly being led to new areas, without really getting to explore each of them fully before moving further on. I'm obviously supposed to return to some places later on with new skills, but I'm wondering if I'm supposed to take some sort of initiative and stop progressing the story. The way I remember it, in PiT, I could just follow the story as it went, and it would lead me through areas, and I could go around and find everything before moving on. I'm worried I'll suddenly find myself at the final boss fight, with half of the loot and coins still in their floating boxes... On the plus side, the various fights are still super-cool and fun. All the enemies have their own custom attacks, with their different tells, and some of them have combo attacks, etc. It's great when, after being hit a couple of times by an attack seemingly impossible to dodge, you suddenly "get" the tell and can dodge it easily.

I didn't think you were. Sorry for making it sound like I did. It was just the first thing that hit me -- "man, that face looks really good, did they really improve the engine that mu-- oh, never mind".

I wonder why they made this. As far as I know they didn't do anything with better-than-the-actual-game visual quality for the first game. Ten years ago this kind of trailer and cut-scene had the same freedom as box art -- everyone knew graphics couldn't be that good, so the creators were "allowed" to use these opportunities to show what the game was supposed to be. Now that real-time graphics are so good, though, it's always a disappointment to watch, because at first I assume it's game graphics, then moments later I realise that it's pre rendered, and then I'm sad because the game will be like that, only a bit more crappy. The faces will be a little more corpse-like, the movement will be a little more stiff, the camera-work will be a little more stilted, the combat a little less exciting and so on. Is this Blur video thing normal, or have I just not been paying attention? I really thought they stopped doing this with the latest generation of consoles.

The newfangled AJAX (or AJAJ, as I assume is the most popular thing among today's youth) might make it a bit too tempting to make something closer to a chat, or something like Google Wave. I think I would prefer the more "static" way of not having shit appear while you're typing, but limiting it to a notification or something like that. Also, something that just hit me that would be awesome for every forum: The post could be inserted after the post that was the last one when you hit reply and start writing, rather than at the end of the tread as it is when you post the message. Sort of like placing a token in the thread when you hit reply.

Don't be afraid to create a new thread. It's better for everyone.

Also, there should be an absolute fuckton of buttons for sharing a thread on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Digg, Stumbleupon, etc. Also, everything on the front-end should be done with JavaFX.

I would fucking love to talk about Gobliiins, although both Gobliins II and Goblins III are both far superior games.

I want to start a rumour about a three hour Idle Christmas Cast being released next week, but I don't know where to begin.

My vote goes to the forum software, and also to giving me read access to whatever source repository you'll end up using.

Clearly you have not played Tomb Raider: Underworld.

I'm sorry! I told the woman to use the Lenin stamps, but did she listen?

You're just saying that because they are from Finland. Also, did Max Payne really come out this decade? I remember that as more of a 1998 game.
-
It is. At first.
-
I would probably agree. There aren't many games from this decade I've played through more than once. I think maybe Half-Life 2 and Commandos 2.
-
Yeah, I played Knytt, I think, and it's very similar in atmosphere (i.e. awesome atmosphere). I believe his earlier games were more focused on the exploration/platforming, without all the awkward additions of the menu UIs and tabbing between windows, etc.

Jesus, today's postal system is fast. Enjoy the games and the anthrax.

Idle Forza 0x00: Is this going to be a thing that is?
toblix replied to toblix's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Yeah, AWEOSME! One thing, though.. will I have to grind the single player to be able to buy a car that I can race you in, or will everyone be limited to driving Yarises if I'm part of it? -
Clearly this decade is 2001 to 2010, inclusive.

Half-Life 2 also wins DOTGOTYOTD

I noticed you had started a game with me, and then resigned before even making your first move. I find it exhilarating that you consider me such a good player that you need a perfect set of letters from the very start to even stand a chance.

That's all I need. -
Would that be the dating or the school girls?

I just noticed my inbox was full. Does that prevent me from receiving new messages or what?
