Just started this on the PC, and holy shit: It has a strong "console port feel" to it, from the black intro copyright screen to the half-assed menus. This is the most intense game I've ever played, especially since I always try to catch all scripted events, hear all the conversations and see the little custom animations, I love that stuff. "Unfortunately" everything in this game feels like this. The opening tutorial level is basically a huge arena filled with awesome scripted stuff, and the second level has a car sequence that's like the Half-Life tram ride meets a billion people whose job it is to script crazy stuff. For example, the scared guy in the alley, with the red shirt. You can follow his flight if you look at the right places at the right time, and if you're lucky you'll catch a glimpse of some sneaky people with rocket launchers peering out from behind a car AND THEN EVERYTHING EXPLODES AND YOU'RE ON THE GROUND AND HURRY YOU HAVE TO FIGHT YOUR WAY THROUGH THE SCHOOL etc. Long story short, it's extremely intense, and also fun. If anyone else has played this, did you get some weird sound mixing stuff in the tutorial level? When I hear people speaking in a game I always think "okay, I've triggered a scripted event", and then quickly try to find out where it's taking place so I can see it. So, I'm walking around this military camp, and I hear these guys talking, and I can't find them. I run around everywhere trying to triangulate their position by moving and turning, and make sure my speakers are set up correctly, but as best as I could figure, the guys were inside a crate or something.

Well, if he's getting the best the market has to offer it will hurt him right off the bat, as he'd only be able to access a small fraction of his system memory. edit: I just used a truly American expression that sounds like it has something to do with baseball.

Some older games, sure, but there's really no question as to whether you should get a 32 or 64 bit OS at this point.

That's a new one ordered. I'll probably have the parts early next week. Although it's always a hassle transitioning to a new computer, I've been longing for this for a while, since I'll be transitioning from: 2 cores to 4 Five 7200rpm disks to 1 SSD and one 7200rpm Windows Vista to Windows 7 32bit to 64bit A computer that's full of dust and is old to a new, clean one that's never been used A computer that doesn't work and won't boot to one that hopefully will do both. I'm also doing some new things I usually don't, like keeping the old PSU and going with the stock CPU cooler. It's like I have become crazy.

That was fun. However, my Yaris had this problem that if I so much as touched the slightly raised curb, the wheels would just lift up and the car would start rolling for miles. Can I maybe attach weights to it in tuning or something?

I'd say it's more complicated because you're not directly controlling the position aim (as with a PC mouse), but instead the acceleration, so there's a layer of something in there.

Fuck you, you patronizing fuck. Also, the reason I'm mainly in stock cars is that I've raced so little in the single player that all I have is the cars they give me as I progress, so they're mainly the lower classes. Also, since I've been playing on easy I haven't really felt the need to ultra boost any of the cars. However, after switching to medium difficulty I was forced to start upgrading, so I think maybe my VX200 or whatever it's called, is maxed out, or whatever car people call it.

Thanks for reminding me of this game. I bought it when it came out, but I'm too lowbrow to appreciate games as art, etc. so I didn't play/interact with it enough. I'll load it up again tonight.

Yeah, I'm curious about the DLC. I mean, multiplayer? It seems strange that they're adding this on. In my experience, tacked-on multiplayer is never any good. Of course, they may already have the stuff in the engine, but that also seems strange. I don't know if the platforming is smooth enough that multiplayer chases would be satisfying (just look at how clumsy the thief chasing parts are), and I don't see what other parts of the game would be any fun playing with others. Certainly they're not going for deathmatches? Oh, and another thing. What's the deal with the thieves and the messengers? When I spot them, I chase them down and tackle them. Tackling the thief gets me some money, but am I supposed to kill the messenger?

Also me. I haven't really made any progress since last time, but at least I'm able to stay out of people's way. I'm having real problems making Forza 3 fun. I found that my initial difficulty setting of easy always resulted in me just taking the lead, because the car in front of me would always just turn off the track and into a wall, leaving me in first place after a lap, and then it'd just be me racing alone for the remainder of the race. So I turned it to the next one (medium), and suddenly everyone leaves me in the dust. Turns out I have to start buying cars or something. Still, is the racing really half competition and half being a gentleman? It seems the correct procedure is to just maintain your position in line until a long, straight stretch of road, and pass as many as you can before getting back in line for the windy parts. None of the other cars crash into the others and bump them off the road, or take short cuts across the lawn. Why?

One more thing. Just by adding some small actual reward for collecting stuff in the game, I find myself always making small detours to get the chests. I'm not so sure about the feathers, though. There are 100 of them (I've now got 5, all by accident), and it seems like there's no way of locating them other then by spotting them in the landscape. This seems ridiculous (although I guess they would like to cater to the hardcore collectors, like with GTA IV's pigeons), but do you get some sort of feather radar later on? Currently, this seems like the one thing that might prevent me from getting everything in this game. I've learned my lesson from GTA IV, though, so I'm spending more time between missions collecting stuff. For some reason, once I've finished the game, running around in the game world seems so dreary and depressing, like making out with a corpse. I guess I'll do the chests, and let the feathers be. Still haven't touched Dragon Age, and Mass Effect 2 is coming... Jesus.

Just wanted to bump this thread, so as to convince the remaining few about the awesomeness of this game. Really, even if you thought the first game was shit, this is better in every way. About the notoriety, I still haven't figured out the fine mechanics of it yet, but it seems to me the guards won't attack you for just walking down the street as long as you're not notorious. They will, however, start picking on you and push you around if you get too close or start pushing old ladies or making guys drop their boxes, etc. They'll chase you for a bit, too, but I haven't been attacked for this. One section I just did, I'm wondering a bit about. There was an assassination mission where I had to follow this guy around a bit until he entered a guarded courtyard. Inside there were a bunch of guards and four targets. On the minimap was just a big mess of crosshairs and red dots. How would one go about doing this as "correctly" as possible? I just climbed the next door building, stood on the edge until the control indicator said "assassinate". I pushed X and Ezio jumped three stories and killed one of the guys. So, now there are three guys left and about ten guards with lances and halberds trying to kill me. Now my only tactic is running back and forth, Benny Hill style, looking for a guy dressed all nice-like, run up to him an kill him. If I'm lucky, that was one of the targets. If not, he was just an innocent dude walking by. I had to do this until I had killed all the guys, at which point I fled awesomely across the rooftops. Except for the daring escape, the whole thing felt like a mess. Anyone remember this, or have some idea how to be all assassin-like about it? I know there's no Hitman-style solution like stuffing the chef in a closet and poisoning the appetizers, but how I went about it felt more like a massacre. Last time I checked, this game wasn't called Massacrist's Creed 2.

Just saw Delicatessen. For some reason I haven't gotten around to it before now, having seen and loved many of Jeunet's later films. Just the intro credits sequence in this film has more care put into it than Surrogates, Transformers (both of them) and Avatar (all three dimensions) put together.

Two things: If you still haven't bought this by now, believe the hype. It's an awesome game for all ages, etc. Also, just found this, which has some nice pictures and background stuff.

Here all games are translated so that everything takes place either: In a fjord, or Aboard a whaling vessel, or In the hall of the Mountain King (usualyl boss fights) I don't mind. -
Just wanted to point you towards the quote button, there, Denial, in case you haven't seen it. Also, you want to use square brackets for your italics. As for bugs, I think there's usually a correlation between game crashing bugs and overall feel of quality and polish in a game. For example, weird Russian PC games, cheap truck racing games, etc. all tend to have both: Lots of strange crashing bugs, but also Half-assed stuff all over the place, jaggy fonts, twitchy, unresponsive controls, flickering textures, weird pauses, etc. Although there's always the inhomogeneous target platform to worry about in PC gaming, if you're making a game for Windows you're working with pretty stable framework APIs, and I think the higher bug count has less to do with it being PC, and more to do with sloppy design and coding. Disclaimer: I don't know anything about making games.
