Yeah, but neither of those are free, so it would still make sense to charge separately for both versions.

I expected it to be like that, something one could show people who think games are stupid, and they'd be all amazed at how it's like a film only you're in control. I found the game to be too weirdly focused on irrelevant actions, though. If someone who hadn't played a game before played Heavy Rain, wouldn't they just end up sitting on every chair in the game because the game told them to? Also, moving the characters around felt like driving the bus in GTA IV, which didn't help with the cinematic feel. You don't see Daniel Day-Lewis back up twice because he keeps missing the door to the bathroom.

GTA LII: Steve McQueen's Greatest Role

Yeah, credz, propz and hollaz at James for his reverse thing. I watched a couple of laps of it after I won the race on my scooter, and it was a harrowing experience to be sure. Also a moment of hilarious fun was when James kept me on the ground for five minutes under his gushing spray, and all my pleas for mercy (from James) and help (from everyone else) were ignored. That was as about as fun as it gets. Well, James finally exploded. Sweet vids, James. -

Would my reverse cow pattern constitute a livery?

A new multiplayer game (for the times when left for lobby gets too much)

There should also be one on toblix.com. Was last time I checked. -

Just a note to anyone who hasn't joined the BC2 games yet. We're doing voice chat over Skype, not the in-game system. So, better get that installed and running. If you see some thumbs playing, ask one of them to invite you. Speaking of which,an argument for using TeamSpeak over Skype is that connecting to the chat is done by connecting to the server, not by being invited. -
There's a much larger difference between Mac and PC than there is between Windows versions. You can run the same binaries on WinXP and Win7, but you have to compile separate files for Mac OS, especially since they're now doing separate OpenGL and DirectX versions. You could argue buying one entitles you to the other, but it's not crazy, and definitely not unheard of, to treat them as separate products.

Yes, if you're prevented from playing the game due to being disconnected it's basically the same thing. The question is why being disconnected prevents you from playing a given game. If there are some essential services that you need to have access to online, of course you can't play, and people will likely accept that. The most extreme case of this is a MMORPG, obviously. If it's just a DRM thing, people will hate it, the most extreme case being the Ubisoft DRM (the cloud save game thing is just something they came up with in order to "defend" the DRM). I guess that the connection requirement is okay if the developers would have to go out of their way to allow you to play offline, but not okay if the developers went out of their way to prevent you from playing offline. Of course, this is all very subjective, and I know my own views are not entirely consistent. It's easier to rage against something when it's explicitly labeled as DRM.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 3: "Your Buddy, Space Marine" or "The Capper"

You can see from Kotick's face that they're already inside him. -
I would be extremely surprised if this wasn't the case. It's not like they're giving you more games, as you can still play one of them at the time, being Steam and all.

Wouldn't a more appropriate metaphor be a store that, if your router reset while you were shopping, removed all your groceries and moved you back to the entrance?

I think it's just the perception of why it's there. In the case of C&C it give the player a whole bunch of stats and stuff (I guess), and you can argue that you need to be online to prevent cheating, etc. In the case of Ubisoft, it's explicitly stated to be a form of DRM, which gamerz hate. With C&C you can of course make a case for why it should also work offline (with reduced functionality), but they can also say "well, we wanted it to be a completely connected experience" or something, and people will sort of buy it.

Should be in, like Gershwin. -
This is also charming.

Finished it, what a disappointment. It said John Romero was a lead tester. Anyone know if it's that John Romero?

Hello! Christians playing games doesn't seem that weird to me. Could you maybe post a link to your stuff? Or not, if you don't want to.

Whoa, there. Just to make sure, did you explain why on the last cast? If you didn't, could you do so here? Not that I'm saying you're wrong to prefer the PC version, it's just that I've always considered the console Splinter Cell games better on account of the controls (more precision in movement than in aiming).

"Time to play the sexy girl." Holy Maloney has this game been horrible so far. Not only are the graphics not that good (not that graphics have to be good, it's just that it's one of the main selling points), the controls are awful, everything feels really disconnected and segmented, the voices sound like French people trying to sound Americanand there's too much useless crap everywhere. Most of the stuff you do are things other video game developers found out long ago were better to abstract. It's like playing a 20 million dollar Qwop. Also, ten bonus points for the "girl power" comment at the end of the horrible, awful scene, no doubt tacked on as someone realized what they had just made.

Okay, if there's a plan and a system behind the scheduling, that's great.

I'm not selfless, so I guess that it autobalanced me over. Either that, or it was my... accident involving myself and one of those little cars. I took it for a spin, unintentionally -- and completely by accident -- lightly touched a number of explosive barrels -- irresponsibly stored, by the way -- which exploded with a force that might surprise you. I guess the game interpreted this accident as an inside job and booted me back to my "proper team". Anyway, I intend to acquire a high-tech microphone that will make my voice positively booming, so that I can shout "Lima! A thousand times Lima!".

Except me, I'll be saying "Hello? Where is my cross hair become?" and then ragequit.

This is an awesome Idle Thumbs grade thread. If it's a game I've played before, I personally can't stand to watch others play it, as I always get frustrated at how other people aren't as thorough as I tend to be. The comparison to film/television is interesting, though. If you're sitting next to a guy playing a game, and you're giving orders/advice, isn't this close to what people envisioned interactive films/TV would be like? You're not controlling directly, but you're playing in a more abstracted way, while leaving the implementation to the player. I can see how this would be an ideal way of playing games for people who aren't as interested in learning complex controls, or introducing people to gaming.
