Just saw this on Reddit, and thought of the cloud bush thing. I always thought he hit the blocks with his head.

Thursday of this week's a day during which a conference previewing the next version of iPhone OS 4, or whatever they'll end up calling it now that it's also the OS for the iPod, will be held. As I've been getting a bit tired of the current state of my iPhone, I look forward to amazing new features. According the Steve Jobs, they'll be A+, which should mean stuff like multitasking and animated screensavers. Anyway, due to the RDF I'm already planning every hour up until the event, making sure everything around me, people and objects, are positioned and instructed in such a way as to not disturb me during.

The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

I would totally do that a to a little girl. If I wanted to crack her head open on the asphalt. -
I'm starting to believe I will actually finish this game. It's not as hardcore as I first thought. The intro makes it out to be very hectic and chaotic, with lots of stuff to manage and think about, but in reality all the systems work really well, and so far it's been a pretty focused shooter. The pacing is great, and the locations you get to explore, while not that diverse in theme (post-apocalyptic metro system), are really well-made and interesting to explore. Since leaving the first station I've really not had any more audio issues, and there really is a lot of really good ambient sound in this game. You can really hear stuff going behind barred doors, further down closed-off subway tunnels and burrowing in the ground beneath you. Also, there's a neat section that messes with your controls a bit, which was fun. I feel like I have to keep talking about how good this game is because I have the impression it's mostly ignored, but I don't really have any data, just observations from discussions around the web. Anyone know if it's doing well, or where to look for this kind of info?

I'm pretty sure it'll be toblix. If I can choose, however, it'll be Shooter McDust.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 5: His Cyborg Familiar
toblix replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Great episode (yes, episode). Sweet discussions on various topics -- I like how you often end up drilling into tangential stuff instead of what you were supposed to be talking about. Also, Jake keeps being my favourite guy, always with the spot-on video game observations. Chris's Hollywood Stories was funny and unexpected, and Award for Best Thing that was Said goes to Steve's "shut up". Also, best ending ever. Oh, and please talk more about Metro 2033 next time. I'd write a question at idlethumbs.net (or call the machine and say nothing), but since you read those after saying all the things, that would be pointless. Nobody talks about Metro 2033, but it's a sweet game. Chris, have you come to the part where there's a cut-scene where your guy holds up a dog tag hanging from a leather string and you see how it twist as the tag rotates? Lastly, I love how you guys kept joking about this being the last episode. Great joke, you guys! -
Oh, also: if anyone has the TeamSpeak 3 client lying around, they could try connecting to thewizardscolon.com. It seems to me Skype is having problems keeping people connected, and this could be a fallback thing, I dunno. I haven't tried it myself with lots of people, but it's supposed to be scaleabaleble.

I'm there with you PARDNER, although there's the danger of platform fragmentation. I was planning on getting it on 360 since I've had such good experience with both GTA IV on 360 and the voice chat in general. However, if most of you get it on PS3 instead, I'll also do that too, as well. There should be a way of measuring and representing statistically what platform the various people here who would at some point like to partake in Red Dead Thumb intend to buy the game on.

Wasn't it decided that your horrible connection was the problem, rather than Skype?

I just installed it on my phone, played with it for five minutes, and then went back to the old one. Or did I? I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say if I did. Or didn't.

Most likely 360 for me.

I hear it's... supreme sorry.

The Idle Thumbs Podcast Episode 5: His Cyborg Familiar
toblix replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Awesome! Although there's no Metro 2033, which I would enjoy hearing discussed some more, at least there's a million other games. Can't wait to hear your views on Fantasy World Dizzy. -
Oh, definitely not. It'll probably be released alongside the next version of the phone in June/July. However, it's the news of the thing I'm looking forward to, not the thing itself.

You guys look nothing like I imagined. What a disappointment!

I don't know.

This stuff comes free with Windows! Also, flourish.mid and town.mid. You're in for a wild ride!

Yes, it was definitely a bug. I restarted the level a couple of times, and got past it without a hitch. Still loving this game, although the shock of awesomeness has worn off somewhat. It's almost like a Half-Life 2 Lite.

God damn it, I'm stuck! Has anyone gotten throught he Trolley Combat part? After I've spotted the tank, I get to a section where there are two machine guns nests on the left side, and some guys coming out of a train, and for some reason, whatever I do my screen explodes after a couple of seconds. It's almost like I've hit a bug.

Is that Insane Clown Posse a real thing, or a joke?

I'm very happy with the purchase. As a gaming platform I think it's great, although the touch interface is more limiting than I expected at first. For example, I don't play any of the point & click adventures I bought (and I've bought pretty much all of them, because it's awesome to have Simon the Sorcerer on your phone), because of the whole finger-covering-where-you-click thing. The games I've played the most I think are Textropolis, Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies and Plants vs Zombies. I don't play at home, but find short openings when I'm out and about. I also use the web more than I expected to (the browser is great), and Tweetie 2 is an excellent Twitter client. However, I expect all this to change tomorrow, when multitasking, animated backgrounds, backround music, screensavers and Facebook integration are announced for iPhone OS 4.

The Lock Screen. It Just Works. Except sometimes when I get a call, and sliding the god damn thing over doesn't work, and I start panicking and the ringtone keeps ringing!

It's not that strange. The iPhone is multitasking all the time. The real issue is allowing 3rd party apps to run in the background. The notification system was an attempt at solving part of the problem, but it's probably the worst part of the phone now. I'm guessing they're going to do something about it, but I'm very curious as to what exactly they'll do. What I'm missing most of all on my phone right now is for it to show me missed calls, messages, etc. without having to push any buttons. There's no excuse for this not to be in place as long as it's on external power. I'm also guessing the next phone will have a sweet pulsating LED for this.
