~~~ADVENTURE GAMES~~~ This is Jane Jensen's latest game, coming out soon. I just read the preview of it over on Adventure Gamers, and it sounds like it might not be horrible. I don't know... I'm suspecting it's just another cheap German adventure, like that turd Mata Hari, but maybe I'll give it a go. Sometimes I wish that, instead of there being so many terrible adventure games, all the developers would realise their ideas, art and design are terrible, and give all their money to Revolution, along, maybe, with a time machine. edit: Oh, look, there's a trailer: cpn2DHwy8UU Looks like someone got a hold of the 3dsmax walking cycle...! This is going to be awesome. Notice how they resisted including actual boring video clips from their adventure game, almost all the way through! Making a point and click adventure game trailer must be a horrible assignment, as must be making up all the questions that they display between each concept art shot. WHICH LIMITS WOULD YOU CONQUER?
Standing close to explosions is sexy:
Maybe this is half-off or half off on Steam.
-
Ok, that explains why they're so popular during early store visits.
-
So when people buy the spiky shoes, is that just in anticipation of the ice levels, or do they do anything in the earlier levels?
Not very interesting:
Yeah, or maybe there's a government thing for complaints or something?
The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)
I guess this happened to everyone:
If there should be a separate thread for Daily Thumblunky videos, this is probably the time to start it (a couple of days ago would be even better.)
Yeah, whatever.
I sure am.
Oh no, there's plenty of sea creatures in Riven. I just don't think they're present in the first part of the game.
-
I didn't watch a lot of the streams, but it seemed to me they played with a sort of ironic distance that made me surprised the project apparently went on for so long. I only watched an hour or two of the whole thing, so maybe things changed after that.
I don't remember any sea creatures in the beginning, but I do remember looking around the first island, being amazed at how real everything felt. The islands were, and still are (I played it not too long ago, and it's aged really well if you can handle the low resolution) extremely well modeled, textured and animated. I remember looking over at the big gold dome, with the sun reflecting off its rim, or over at other, remote stuff, knowing that I'd be able to go there sooner or later. The thing I remember as the most impressive thing, though, was how perfectly it all came together. Interacting with the various mechanisms around Riven, and hearing the grinding of stone or metal, or the creaking of old rubber or clanking of steam mechanisms, seeing the real-looking stuff move believably, knowing that stuff was interconnected and made sense – I guess it was the perfect game for my young nerd mind. Anyway. 43% done after 13% of the funding period. Looking good.
Having never looked at the stats before, I just discovered this: I guess that means their three-character design works pretty well.
Thanks to Tegan for my frightfully fantastic halloweenatar!
Now you're arguing!
Oh yeah, definitely. I hope you don't think I believe technology is the most important part of a game's visuals! I was just saying my impression is that UE4 still allows for more sophisticated visual technology than Unity3D, which I guess would be the only alternative, and that it's less likely that they'll hit upon limitations in that department. Cyan's games have always been visually focused, and I really hope the game will be pushing the graphics engine to its limits. So, I just want the highest limits. Now, importantly, my impression of the relative quality of Unity3D and UE4's graphics engines is not researched at all, and in my head I'm seeing «Off-Road Velociraptor Safari» vs «Gears of War» or something, which is obviously not representative. But yeah, I know that human artists can contribute to as much as 40-50% of a game's beauty.
The teleporter seems like a bad idea.
