I think most players are understanding of the big initial land-grabbing phase and the small skirmishes that occur as borders are formed, and don't consider them part of any large-scale attack.

I used Recuva to recover files from formatted disks, not the RAID ones. Exactly how upfucked are your drives? Do they spin up?

Civilization IV: Shut the Hell Up, Montezuma

I could be the pit boss, no problem. It sounds like the most workable way to get this done. -
This isn't a comment on the essay, which I haven't read, but it seems to me this could go in the the "what is art?" thread, in which people argue about what a completely subjective term means. I'd say that when some rating agency uses the word mature to describe a game (or film) they're really saying it's intended for mature (as in older) audiences, which makes slightly more sense.

Since I'm already in Puffin Galaxy, count me in on standby, in case you need to fill out some slots.

Sounds like you're talking only about people in huge GlobalCorps though. I guess that may be most computer jobs. -
Well, they'll have to fix that in a hurry if they're releasing a Linux client.

Jesus, Forbin, you have the most bleak outlook. Are you really saying that a job developing software will always suck? -

Sweet. Anyway, I just finished installing Civ IV so I'm good to go if this becomes a thing. -

Sounds crazy. Imagine everyone playing Neptune's Pride having to agree to connect at the same time to make our moves. What am I not getting? -

Is it turn-based with a central server, or do the players have to stay connected all the time? -

This sounds interesting. How does it work, exactly? -
We didn't really have much, if any, communication. I had sort of an armistice with the guy to my right, and thought that if I could invade the guy to my left I would have an awesome little corner to do all my stuff in. I always do the thing where I wait just a bit longer so I can get that next research level or a slightly bigger fleet before I go in, and I waited too long, so that when I finally decided to attack, and had to move all my forces to that side, I got invaded by three other guys from my right. Or girls.

Oh yes, the level after Iraq is fantastic. This is what I wanted all along -- ninja action.
-
Oh, that's okay then.

My only shame is never completing MGS4, which I hope to do this year.

So, what's the story with E3 now? Is it no longer interesting for the serious games journalist? I heard Valve is maybe announcing something there.

You don't get the full experience unless the game thinks you paid for it.
-
But demos are so limited! They want the real experience before they shell out.

They're just downloading it to see if it's any good before they buy it.

I choose to completely ignore diplomacy, since there is no reason to assume whatever is being said is true, or has any meaning at all. Instead of trying to analyse and guess at what's really going on I just treat everyone as computer AIs. This could be why I lost.

As an experiment, when Summer was over last year I just threw a tarp over my "garden" furniture (cushions and all) out on the patio (or whatever it's called). A couple of days ago I remove the tarp and found that in each chair the seat had been covered in a thick, lush carpet of cat hair. Apparently I had made an awesome cat-house.

Yeah, I guess it's not much different from a mechanical tools convention or car show or whatever (not that deWalt ever claimed they were making art...) I'm glad to hear I was mistaken about it being a source of awesome news about things to come. I remember years ago, getting home from school and loading up Blue's News to peruse the summary of the day's E3 announcements. Hopefully it'll be like that this time too, only I'll be sitting at work hitting F5 on Shacknews.
