You're an embarrassment to the forums, man. Come back when you've learned some English. Glad to hear about the new apartment, though. Hope it works out for you guys!

RAGE EXPLOSION! I know, it may seem stupid, but I use the term as an ironic statement on anti-intellectualism. Think of it as performance art.
  3. Sounds exciting. I've never tried one of those -- how long does it usually take?
  4. Oh, anyone know if queued up actions, such as movement, is done automatically even if I don't log in for my turn?
  5. Yes, there are still free slots and we'ven't started properly yet. Come, join!
  6. Red Dead Redemption

Holy mother of crap, I can't wait to keep playing this game! Last night I spent half an hour looking for the first treasure. I finally found it, which was immensely satisfying, and on my way back home it started to rain. Jesus, I thought the weather in GTA IV was well done, but the approaching thunderstorm across the desert in the distance was just amazing. One might say I was blown away by it. Also, halfway home I came upon a couple of guys who were up to no good. I killed them and took their money, and now I have enough money to buy the deed from the old guy.

I shed a tear at the very end (as I tend to do with long-running series I've watched in full), but the whole thing disappointed me as much as I had feared.

I think they discovered another bunch of lost reels.
  9. For some reason, while chatting with JamesM in a virtual internet chatroom, we started talking about preordering Red Dead Redemption, and I though I hadn't done so yet, and did so, but had also already done so earlier too, as well, only that I had was something I had forgotten. Anyway, now I have two. Who wants the second copy for the low price of giving me your home address? Nachimir, if you want it, you can have it, on account of the pins and everything. It's the 360 one, and everyone speaks in Norwegian. I'm kidding, I think.

Sweet! I'm a huge fan of his music. Didn't know that was him. Yeah, obviously one of the keys is just watching a lot of movies. I was really looking for a place to look for discussions and comments on various films to get some different views from people with more knowledge than myself, hopefully in more detail than the usual "I liked this movie" post. I try to force myself to watch films that don't immediately appeal to my basest of film desires, and I'm having moderate success with that, even though I always enjoy what I end up watching. I'd sort of like to see Metropolis or M, but then I feel like I'm trying to become a pretentious dude, so instead I end up watching Saw IV. Oh wait, I saw Dr. Parnassus today, which should at least count somewhat towards my connoisseur credit. Oh, and Antichrist the other day. I meant to post about the opening act (LOOK I'M USING THE LANGUAGE OF FILM AND THEATRE) being awesome to the max, but then I got sidetracked by looking for a torrent of Human Centipede. Not out yet.

What? You must be thinking of another toblix. I would never write Солярис using Latin characters. не, как вы говорите, миллион лет!

Thanks for the great reply! Obviously you know a thing or two. I always try to pay attention to the camera, and I'm I'm a big fan in particular of long takes, as they often impress me in so many ways, and I'm often surprised by other people not noticing them at all. edit: Ooh, I found this! I was preparing to read a treatise on the evolution of scene transitions in high-brow cinema, and then he opens with National Treasure. This is going to be sweet! edit 2: Son of Edit: And a case study of Mission: Impossible III!

Yeah, I've watched a couple of his... Lost Highway, Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive and The Straight Story, in order of decreasing mindfuckery. I liked them all, but I'm not going to pretend to be smart enough to "get" the weirder stuff. The espresso-spitting scene in MD ranks as one of my all time favourite moments in film. Thanks for thetip, Groucho, I'll check it out.

Okay, so one thing I've always wondered is how much of a film's "look", by which I mean readily apparent visual things like camera movement, colors, types of shots, etc., can usually be attributed to the director, as opposed to some other person in the credits? And if the answer to that is "a lot", are there clear characteristics that lets a person who knows what to look for distinguish between the various directors? I guess some directors like Woody Allen, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Tim Burton are more easily identifiable, but are there other, less obvious stuff as well? Maybe I'm thinking of directors too much like painters, in that there's a very definite style to their work. Maybe film directors tend to experiment more between each film.

Yes, but as with anything else there are levels of understanding and appreciation that can be trained, like cooking, wine, painting, programming, music, cheese, dance, perfume, etc, and I would like to get to a slightly more advanced level of film appreciation than "I don't know anything about film, but I know what I like!" which is where I feel I am now.
  16. Who wants Red Dead Redemption?

Yes, I'm hoping for a PG-13 sex scene with one of you. Anyway, I found someone, so this thread is now closed.
  17. Super Thumb Fighter 4

That message really fits into the flow of the thread.
  18. Red Dead Redemption

Damn it, now I'm doing the same thing I always do when I've got (something I think will be) an awesome game in my hands (or drive) I keep procastinating -- I was going to play RDR all weekend, but instead I've seen five hours of BSG, two episodes of Lost and Shutter Island. Anyway, I have only played for about half an hour, but I'm already getting the good feeling of being in a huge, interesting world that I'll be getting to know better and better over the course of the game. I'll try to do more side-stuff in between main missions than I did in GTA IV, as mopping up stuff like that after having beat the story is horrible. In games like this, I really don't understand how anyone would head into multiplayer this early.

Just watched Shutter Island. I'm no film expert, and I don't know what's good or bad. I just know that there's no better way to get my attention than to have stuff take place in an old mental asylum where something isn't quite right. There's something about the setting that triggers something within me only a really good psychologist /-iatrist could find, a primal desire of some sort. Sanitarium (the game) is probably my favourite example, and there's Arkham Asylum, parts of Nova Prospekt, Session 9, maybe the list goes on. from the start, but it was still fun stuff. I've become more and more aware of my lack of knowledge of film, and I'm wondering if anyone know of any good forums that discuss particular films in more depth. I'd very much like to be able to see the various techniques of directors and be able to spot them, like one would be able to hear a composer's signature in a piece of music, or the artist's stroke in a painting, only without sounding like so much of a ponce. I try to be aware of stuff like tight shots and open shots (if that's what they're called, I never went to film school), use of panning and focus, but I sort of lose track and I still wouldn't be able to tell a Woody Allen film from a Uwe Boll.
  20. Red Thumb Redemption

Cue a slow motion montage of gangsters shooting at each other from behind street corners and from the smashed-out windows of cars racing by, burning ice-cream vans being run off the road and into the West River and grenade-propelled Faggios flying off the Dukes Bay Bridge to the tune of Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale. Fade to black, then, in white Trajan: Grand Thumb Auto ★ November 27th 2008 † May 18th 2010
  21. I'll probably not give regular or comprehensive or interesting updates, but so far I have: Founded my first city Moved some dudes around
  22. Red Thumb Redemption

I probably won't be multiplaying RDR for a couple of weeks on account of the fact that I want to finish the first player first.
  23. Who wants Red Dead Redemption?

It's region Norway and wherever else.
  24. Okay, Napoleon and Isabella are still unclaimed, and we're only a couple of turns in. If someone wants to get in this thing, PM me.
  25. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse

All the completely new locations, the quality of the puzzles, and the reel-based structure made this the finest Sam & Max game yet. I'm still getting that weird DirectX error when I start the game for the first time, though. I have to disable desktop composition, start the game, set it to windowed mode (my new favorite mode for all games), and then I can play it with Aero on, no problem. Also, the silent title screens give me the creeps. But all this is so great. Telltale has come so far since the first Bone game it's incredible. I hope they keep experimenting with stuff.
