I mine got today. (Fuck off! I <hate you>/!

Oops, it looks like I misunderstood the thread. Obviously emergent experiences or whatever is more interesting, and what this thread is for. Sorry, carry on.
-
I guess that satisfies a formal definition, if one were to exist, but I would say it's not really emergent because setting oil slicks on fire is only possible so you can set splicers on fire also. Couldn't you say the same thing about throwing grenades?
-
Is the RDR stuff emergent gameplay, though? I thought that was more explicitly related to game mechanics (like the Deus Ex example of using explosive barrels to create traps) rather than reading awesome little stories into generic events in the game.

This looks pretty awesome, although I'm not sure about the graphics. How much is it?
-
I get that, but I'm pretty sure it's not so much hard to depict sneaking in an interesting way as it is very easy and safe to just show a bunch of killing and explosions. It probably says more about the target audience the marketing department is going for than it does about the game itself. I don't remember seeing any trailers for the two previous games -- maybe they came out before trailers were viable for on-line marketing.
-
My memory may be horribly damaged due to excessive drinking, drug use and trauma from high-impact sports, but I remember Deus Ex (and even the sequel) being a sneaking-around game, at least the way I played it. I hope they didn't show any sneaking around because it wouldn't fit with their awesome explosive trailer, and not because there won't be any sneaking around. I just considered doing that thing Star Wars fans do when you talk about the the newer films, only with Deus Ex, and act all confused when people refer to Deus Ex 2, and make a huge point of not knowing what they're talking about. Luckily I decided against it, but it was a close call.

That's horrible, Kolzig. If your friend's computer was properly set up, you don't have to worry about the blue screen reinstall, though.

Gentlemen, I believe we have discovered a comedy goldmine.

Best use of thumbs icon goes to Armchair General, M.D.

I was really anticipating this film, but now it seems they've gone in a different direction. Both the tagline about new rules and the substitution of numbers for letters leads me to believe it might not be a great movie after all.
-
I would argue that it's more correct to read the 4 as the letter a in that logo.

Whoa there, 7.5 is stretching it! It's good, but really? I'd say 7.0 at most.

This is exactly what happened to me too. I started out watching all the extras I could come across, but I think I got so disappointed by how promo-y most of it was that I stopped at one point. I've probably missed a lot of sweet extras because of that. What was the alternative ending?

They handled the train strangely. They have all this attention to detail, but if you follow the train, it just stops at a station and then never moves again. I realize they can't just flip the train or make it fly across a broken bridge, but still. I really got a Truman Show-esque feeling after having waited for the train to start moving for five minutes, with the driver periodically refueling the fire and leaning out the window to check if it's all clear and nothing happening.

Just wanted to say that the dueling in this game has to be the worst documented game mechanic in all of history. I've had quite a few of them by now, and I still don't know what the hell is going on. It's interesting that while all the card and dice game go extra super slow because they pause everything to let you read a little text window whenever a little thing happens, they go in the opposite direction with the dueling mechanic, and explain it to you as you're getting pumped full of lead. I had this plan to be the awesome good guy and always disarm dudes, but after trying ten times to get my guy to fire at his hand I just put all the crosses in the guy's face and blew him to hell.

Let's!

Sorry if this wasn't meant to be the thread where I post little things that don't deserve their own thread. So I wanted to download 6 files today, at the same time, each slightly over 1 GB in size. I started downloading on Firefox, which went fine, but after a while it crashed. I restarted the downloads, and watched the process. As soon as the downloads started, the memory footprint started growing at the exact same rate the files downloaded. It looked as if it was caching the full downloads in RAM (in addition to on disk) without regard to the actual file size. Pretty soon it reached 1,5GB and crashed. So I installed Chrome and tried the same thing, and the Chrome process grew a couple of megs, but remained at 40MB, so I've now switched. Now you know.

Soundtracks for the video-games, and your most beloved ones
toblix replied to Snooglebum's topic in Video Gaming
Most game music I like I like for the memories they conjure up, and not for the music itself, I think. Also, I often notice specific melodies and tracks I like, that are really different from all the rest of the music. An example is the track Vigil from the Mass Effect sountrack. I've probably listened to it fifty times. The other tracks I've played through once, at most. Other examples are Baba Yetu and track 4 from Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge. Looking at my folder of game music (called _-=Spelmusikk=-_) I see games like Arcanum, Battle Squadron, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, the Fallouts, everything GTA, everything Phonenix Wright, LBA 1 & 2, Everything Myst, Outcast, Rick Dangerous, Shadow of the [beast/Beast 2/Colossus], Everything Silent Hill, The Incredible Machine, Everything The Sims and Transport Tycoon. Most of this is stuff I probably wouldn't listen to twice if it didn't make me all fuzzy with childhood/adolescence/prime of my life memories. -
I just got into Mexico, and damn it if they didn't manage to make it just like getting to a new island in GTA IV. The new music and changed landscape really felt fresh. Also I don't get why they didn't give me 3rd level deadeye from the start.
-
Haha, I did the exact same thing! Good times.

From what I understand, the difficulty levels in the game are just different auto-aiming systems. The easy one is GTA IV style, the normal one is like easy, only once you move the stick it's manual aiming, and hard is fully manual. I'm playing on normal, but I keep re-drawing my gun to snap to the next target, so I'm cheating the system in a way. As for deadeye, in the start of the game, it was just Max Payne like slow-mo, but at one point it started placing little crosses when I aimed over people. Anyone know when this starts, and if there's a way to disable it? I don't like wasting bullets on horses and dead men's shoulders.
