Yeah, I played through it recently as well, and would like a version where I don't have to actually do all the stuff to get the commentary, although it's not a big deal. I haven't gotten far enough to really ascertain how much commentary there is, or if it's worth playing through again to hear.

They should probably've stuck to just one city, like Venice, and made it denser with various awesome stuff. Geographically, there's plenty of room for a great game and a good story in just that one map.

I'm playing this with Nachimir at the moment, and it's great. Really pretty and sleek, with a couple of minor bugs. If anyone wants to play, PM me and I'll give you my email.

On a cabin and must be brief. Buy Metro 2033 everyone!

In a cabin. Have to be brief. All new markup. Check wikipedia for list of differences.

No, there's quite a few new things that aren't tied to or need javascript.

It's going to be quite a while before there's a framework that lets you do with javascript and HTML5 the same things you can do easily in Flash today.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Silverstone Fortress II. I built my current computer in it, and unless I find something even more awesome, I'll keep using it. It looks really good, not full of cheap plastic shit like most cases seem to be these days, it's easy to work with and really well ventilated with plenty of fans, all of which have filters on them. The rotated layout is pretty weird, but I'm very happy with it.

Awesome! Thanks everyone!

I would definitely recommend getting the original Picross before Picross 3d if you haven't played any of them.

So I'm on level 7 or something, and this stuff is addictive. I don't get the trance-like addiction I got with the 2D Picross game, and I think that has to do with the increased awkwardness of the UI. Even though it's very well thought-out, it's still 3D, requiring rotation, which makes it a bit more of a hassle. The rendering is also pretty bad, and sometimes you have to rotate the puzzle a bit just so a number isn't a garbled mess of pixels. It's strange, too, because once you finish a puzzle it turns into a sweet anti-aliased model, which bounces around and does all kinds of wonderful shit. I don't see why they couldn't anti-alias the puzzle while you're playing; I guess it must be the text rendering. It's weird that the DS isn't powerful enough to do that.

Also, an update on the antenna crap, now the rumor is they'll software patch it soon. If it really is the firmware bugging out when the impedance changes I guess it's fixable, but we'll see. Still amazed by Apple's annoyingly smug smugness.

I would kill a puppy for Locale on the iPhone.

Yeah, but it really sweetens the pill for the low-brow moviegoer, as that's a more instantly watchable narrative or whatever. That's a very interesting perspective. I've sort of tried not to think much about and research the guy and his dealings for the purposes my enjoyment of his films, but maybe I should do the complete opposite... Oh God yes. I forgot to mention that, but it was fantastic. Very intense! The music in Rosemary's Baby, especially the lalala one, was also sufficiently haunting and depressing.

On the useful side, there's things like Twitter clients, notification apps, unit converters, photo uploaders, music identifiers, Spotify, Ebay, etc. To be fair, most of these only replace stuff you can do on the web, but they're usually faster to load, easier to use and much, much slicker. On the useless side there's stuff like a million games, musical instruments, sound recorders, drum roll generators, etc. Replacing my iPhone with an iPad still wouldn't give me the portability, so some apps would be useless (like Twitter). However, I would still be able to play all the games. And no, all apps are not available on a normal PC. This matters more for games, obviously. This is why I'm loathe to convert to Android just yet. From what I've seen they're more rubbish, though it's been a while. The openness of the API is appealing, though. There's a thread for that. I think you may be reading too much into the term app. Mostly, it's the games, not the useful stuff.

Okay, to me that's just a strange question. Do you usually ask people what software they look forward to using on their computer or game console? An "app" is just a piece of software, nothing more, but, importantly, nothing less. Most new technology I buy, I buy so that I can run software on it.

Just watched Rosemary's Baby, which was great. It was a much easier film to watch than Repulsion, probably because it was a little less "artsy" and more like the capitalist Hollywood trash I'm used to consuming. I definitely won't.

What? That's like being skeptical of software, or web sites...

Just finished it. I looked it up on Wikipedia and noticed it got excellent reviews. One even mentioned it was too short, which is the complete opposite of what I experienced. To me, the game's greatest weakness was the constant drawing out of every little thing. No matter where you're going you have to brave through a bunch of old houses, mills and tunnels and a million trillion miles of hiking trails. The combat is the same all through the game, only it gets harder and more annoying towards the end. Even though the game looks great, the facial stuff is horrible. It was funny when they gave the possessed lady a "dead stare" and it was impossible to see the difference. At one point I thought it might be a plot point that everyone looked like the walking dead, but turns out it was just bad animation. So, it was very fun, but twice as long as it should've been, and the story suffered from all the action-packed detours they felt they had to cram in there. Sadly, but unsurprisingly, since this is a 2010 video game, it's not meant to be the complete story, and there's already two DLC things in the menu, and according to Remedy this is only the first season of a bigger story or some shit.

Just watched Repulsion. That's one crazy girl. Hadn't seen any Polanski films before, but now I'm looking forward to Rosemary's Baby and The Tenant, which I've also got lined up.

Chris Remo's on Gamers with Jobs podcast
toblix replied to Forbin's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
It was funny how they were all excited about the new things and he was all "God I'm so fucking tired of having to buy all this new shit!" It was a nice episode. -
This new connection thing is just ridiculous, and Jobs' retarded answer didn't help any. I've pretty much decided to get an Android phone now, and just get an iPad or something for the apps. I'm going to wait a bit to see if they come up with a solution or fixed model first, though it seems they're being their usual, smug selves.
