I'm not going to read any bad reviews before I've gotten to play this more, but I've done the first ten minutes of it and so far I'm impressed. The combat – the little there was – felt nice, the graphics and look was excellent, and the short section walking from the cab and up to the apartment felt very nicely put together. Obviously I'm still in the part where they wow me with awesome stuff, but at least I'm convinced they have the engine and talent to do so.

Just played a couple of rounds with Poo and Pocket, and this game really shines when a carefully thought-out plan just goes to shit because of a mistaken key press, or not knowing how a weapon works. Sometimes the horrible lag they have between the player seeing what happens and the others seeing it makes for funny stuff, but I still think they should fix it. All-in-all it's a really rough game at the moment. I have the impression they'll be patching it pretty much non-stop, though, so hopefully it'll be even better in a couple of months.

Is anybody a sad human like me, and have not played any LucasArts adventure games?

Sure, I should just mention I first played this not many years ago. -
Looks like Jurassic Park to me…

This will nerf my 6 cheese factory. Fuck you Blizzard.

Thanks for the sweet casts! -
I had never actually seen this show, but didn't know it was this extreme. How does this not lead to a hundreds of deaths and serious injuries? Also, the guys talking should shut up. tQfjoOaFhC8

The sad thing about Feeble Files is that it has that horrible god-awful terrible shitty 90s LET'S JUMP ON THE 3D BANDWAGON™ look. The game was fun, but I have this irrational hateful reaction when I see that stuff, fueled by all the fine games that could've been awesome, but were 3D instead. I'm not saying Feeble Files is bad because of it, but it really detracts from the experience because I keep thinking of all the beautiful hand-drawn art 3D has taken away from us over the years. -
Oh, on the last round we played I also had a weird problem. For some reason the game thought I was following some crazy object way down in the sea on the right side of the level. There was this bouncing arrow pointing in that direction, and always, as soon as someone (even myself) fired a weapon, the camera would zoom all the way off to the side, forcing me to manually scroll back. It made post-attack movement practically impossible which is why I lost.

Yeah, it's quite unpolished, and I'm betting the first things to change are the addition of a checkbox to disable voice chat completely, and the insane network delays – the network code guy(s) must be hard at work trying to figure out how they can transmit live, smooth mouse movement, but need a whole second to prepare the next player's turn.

Civilization IV: Shut the Hell Up, Montezuma

I'd be in if I had the day off. -
I think whether or not the game updates DirectX is up to the setup code of each particular game. For example, some Steam games install PhysX drivers.

I'm sorry! I give up! I just can't run the pitboss server anymore. For some reason, it's been acting up the same way on three different machines, and I can't trust it to run a day without freezing, forcing me to restart it and lose all progress since I last saved. It's too much work, especially since everyone seems to agree that we'll never actually get anywhere at the current pace. If someone else wants to try hosting a game, I'm up for it, but apparently I don't have access to hardware that will run it. -
I am sorry.

I retried the mission, this time focusing on building Wraiths and getting the second command center up and running as fast as possible. I supplied the two base entrances and the outpost with an assortment of units (I'm not really hip to what goes well against what) and everything went smoothly. Unfortunately I didn't get the huge monster unit, but I guess that's for later, when I've got more tech. The next mission was the one where you've got the huge laser cannon. This was super fun, and by the end I had just a million jillion siege tanks that turned everything that moved to a fine shit mist. I'm not sure if I found the , but I found a thing that gave me a new set of them? Is that it? Also, fucking yes! More of their sweet CGI. I was worried they'd gone over to real-time cut-scenes for everything, but finally I got another real cut scene. SWEET!

Jesus, thanks for the walkthrough! It sounds so hardcore, though – did you play it on hard?
-
Thanks for the advice. I'll beat this sucker tonight.

I was wondering about that – is the BUILD ALL THE SCVS IN THE WORLD™ tactic also good for single player? I thought maybe it was a multiplayer only thing... Anyway, I also went for the second mineral field, but too late... my defenses were spread too thin, like butter on too much bread. Also, will Tychus be okay on his own if I just repair him? I kept sending lots of tanks and dudes to help.
-
I've preordered it, at least, and aim to kill every last one of you.
-
Jesus this game is hard. I'm on the relatively early mission where Tychus is walking around in the big battlepants, on normal, and it's killing me. I feel like I'm always behind with doing whatever I should be doing, and the minute I've made a decision it turns out it was a bad one. I can never build what I want because I'm out of minerals or gas or supplies, and the moment this happens I'm dead because my base is being attacked and I have no defense. I must be missing some vital knowledge or experience. I guess I'll have to acquire a sense of when I should start building the various stuff. Right now it's pretty frustrating.

While I consider all these old adventure games to be treasures of enormous value, I totally understand why new-fangled people would find them boring, too hard, too old-timey, etc. A lot of the quality of a game is tied to the time its released, and nostalgia is a powerful motherfucker. Consider this: In the future there will be hipster youth that spend their time playing Halo and Gears of War on an old 60" LCD screen. There will be sites where you can read how to solder your own HDMI converters so you can hook up your PS3 to your television and play old games. There will be retro enthusiasts running PSN and XBL server emulators where you can download abandonware like Batman: Arkham City and Milo. -

Okay, I've moved the server off-site, so it should be up 24/7 now. PM me for the new address. I'm thinking that, if people are still interested, we could restart with less ridiculous settings. What do you think? -
Seems some Germans are making an on-line version of Jagged Alliance. This could go either way, but if we're lucky it'll give us awesome tactical combat, the likes of which the world hasn't seen in too many years. Think how awesome it would be, fighting against each other, taking turns and being all tacticy. Maybe they'll make something as awesome as the Silent Storm engine, only without the lame robot pants!
