  1. Broken Sword: Director's Cut

Yeah, the two first games are pure adventures. I don't know which one of them is the best, but they're both really excellent. The sequels are all right, maybe – I played them because I love the series, and they have some nice qualities, like the voice work and music, but they really suffer from the jump to 3D. Apparently they want to do a 2D Broken Sword 5 at some point, which is great news. From what I've read about Broken Sword: Director's Cut, they've made some terrible changes throughout, cutting out and simplifying stuff. Also, they changed the musical cues, which sounds awful. Maybe I'll have to go back and play the original after this, just to get my memory straight.
  2. BioShock Infinite

Holy shit, then, that engine is sweet.
  3. BioShock Infinite

But that's nothing like the Infinite trailer... here the guy is walking around, standing still a bunch of times. The Infinite one is like a short film or something.
  4. BioShock Infinite

When I saw the youtube movie linked earlier, I was 100% sure it was pre-rendered. Having later seen a better quality version, though, it turns out I was fooled by the old Blurry Footage Bamboozle™, in which my eyes interpolate all sorts of sweet details from the image. In the high-definition version you can see the graphics may well be in-engine. However, the amount of huge, detailed assets on the screen (and in the level) at once still makes me think this can't be possible. I mean, the way I remember it, theres' so much detail, so many models and textures, deformations and stuff happening at once – could it be one of those sequences that are pre-rendered within the game engine, like those sweet Crysis clips some men made? Or are these new engines just super-powerful and able to load gigantic, sweet assets just whenever? I hope it's this.
  5. Minecraft

We should have a council like in Lord of the Rings!
  6. BioShock Infinite

Actually, I'm not sure anymore. I was totally convinced that you couldn't make a game that looked and played that nice in real-time on today's hardware, and there were so much of the little details that you always see in cut-scenes, but never in actual games. Also, the player movement felt animated. However, from what I read around the web, and the interview with Levine (and agent Remo) they're talking about it as though it was actually played while people were watching. If this is actual, real-time in-game stuff, color me extremely impressed.
  7. BioShock Infinite

What, how is this gameplay? It's clearly a pre-rendered movie made by Blur or some such studio, like that BG&E2 thing with the running around.

    Best example:
  9. Minecraft

    It's-a 178.63.67.102 Luckily, copy paste works in-game.
  10. Minecraft

First of all: if it's underwater, it's no bridge. But yeah, the liquid engine was disappointing. Even disappointinger was hearing from someone on the server last night that the code is so bad he can't fix it. I get that suddenly changing the way liquids flow would lead to thousands of flooded castles and caves on servers around the world, but maybe it could be a server setting to introduce the new model. He'd still have to factor out the code for it, though, which maybe he gets the time to do now that he's a company.
  11. Game cover designs

When I was young(er) I liked the covers where they had drawn lots of stuff that happened in the game, like the one for Lemmings. I guess I don't pay as much attention to covers these days, since getting a new game is no big deal (as a boy I'd always study every little screenshot and info-box), they're more standardized (i.e. less interesting) and I mostly buy them digitally. But yeah, the Ico one is nice, and the Ultima VII one is just badass. "I'm a sweet game, and you will play me."
  12. Minecraft

I started playing solo, but when the multiplayer server went up, I changed to that, since it's fun to wander around and look at other people's stuff. However, since I hate other people, I went off and started my cave a bit outside of town.
  13. 3D

After hearing about Ico and SotC supporting 3D, I'm really considering getting a 3D TV. I've been trying to find a list of games that (will) support 3D, but I can't. The only info I have so far is that Ico and SotC will support it, the next game in some Sony FPS will, and also there's a demo of MotorStorm that has some single player stuff in 3D. Am I just bad at finding out this stuff, or haven't Sony fully revved up the 3D machinery yet? Why doesn't Sony have a dedicated web site listing all their 3D games?

  16. Minecraft

I would totally join, although I'm not sure I'd be of any help.
  17. Minecraft

After calming down a bit, I returned to the game and started a proper mining operation with stairs everywhere. After a while, though, fucking lava came up through my hole. Does this mean I've reached the bottom of the world, and can start making sweet lava shit? Also, as long as I keep plenty of torches around my cave, and keep the doors closed, no monsters can come, right?
  18. Minecraft

I tried setting up a server, but every time someone connects, the computer reboots.
  19. Minecraft

Okay, fuck this, this is just too scary.
  20. 3D

Yeah, my experiences with 3D gaming on the PC have been bad; all sorts of compatibility issues and bugs with it being provided externally, through the drivers, rather than from the game itself. This may have changed recently, though?
  21. Minecraft

I find it interesting that so many players seem to like building tall structures. My fascination with the game is digging maze-like, claustrophobic tunnels deep and far, only surfacing to chop wood. Hopefully I'll be able to grow my own trees underground at one point, I don't know if that's even possible.
  22. 3D

I think I'll wait just because it seems that there's more to adding 3D to a game than just flipping a switch. Since you'll have to be able to render at twice the frame rate, there'll be compromises in quality. How this plays out depends on how hard Sony (and maybe Microsoft at some point) will push and support developers. Currently they seem happy with having announced a couple of titles, which may mean most games won't really support it, which makes owning the 3D part of a 3D TV a waste.
  23. Minecraft

So I went up to the top of the mountain I initially entered my cave through. I had dug a huge shaft which posed a falling hazard, so I decided to plug the hole and tidy up a bit around it, chopping down trees and clearing out di-- kaboom[/i]! I exploded and died, and I don't know why... are there bombs in the mountain? Also I found a nice cliff face I intend to excavate for metals. First thing I did was build a little room with a door to hide from the scary monsters. Does time pass when you're out of the game?
  24. 3D

Take it easy, man, they're not that expensive. I'm sure they'll release a 3D monocle.
  25. 3D

As for 3d-ifying non-3D televisions, I think there are a couple of reasons that won't happen: You'll probably want a higher framerate (400Hz?) and very little ghosting between frames to separate the different "eyes" You'll need to synchronize the glasses with the TV There's more money in getting everyone to replace their brand new HDTVs I think everyone has miraculously agreed to use the Blu-ray 3D standard, which means all TVs should be able to play 3D Blu-rays and PS3 games, and I don't know of any other 3D sources. edit: It really seems like Sony is too busy pushing Move™ to even mention 3D on their site, which makes me think I should maybe wait a generation.
