Mein Thumbcraft—IdleT Dedicated Minecraft Server
toblix replied to MrHoatzin's topic in Multiplayer Networking
I decided to jump on the server and see what everyone's been cooking. Two things: I've probably said this before, but I really get a Riven sort of feeling by walking around the place. It's this huge landscape people have built their stuff on and in, and there's walkways and tunnels, and wherever you are, you can spot something even more interesting in the far distance. None of the mechanical stuff I passed by worked. There were some carts skipping back and forth, a food dispenser that did nothing and subways that were just empty rails. This might be connected to my next point, which is: Holy mother of God, the lag is terrible! Walking around the place is no problem, but the moment you interact with something – anything – you are pulled headlong into a hellish state of bouncing back and forth through doors ever opening and closing of their own volition. Anyway, pretty sweet stuff, everyone! Hopefully whatever's the problem will be rectified at some point, so I can experience the awe and mystery of your caves, temples and something that looked like a huge butt. -
Thanks! So these three things you mention are different alphabets, like?

Maybe their script doesn't allow for a tall blond by the name of Lutefisk Fjordson. Anyway, I'm terrible disappointed, as I think I would make a fantastic contribution as one of the guys that attack the player in the bar.

I guess Norwegians are not eligible for the contest because our names are too cool.

INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT: Previously in this thread, I mentioned that I had definitely linked the BSOD to wifi being turned on. With wifi on, it would consistently die on me within fifteen minutes of starting Shadow Wars. I remembered I had registered three wlans on the device – one at work and one at my parents' – and though maybe this was causing the problems. It would certainly fit with the fact that only a small fraction of users experience the issue, as I'm assuming most people have zero or one wlans registered on their 3DS. So, I cleared the two connections I wasn't using, fired up Shadow Wars, and lo! I was able to play through the mission. Of course, it might be a coincidence, but so far, at least, it seems the BSOD error linked to: Having multiple wlan connections registered, or the configuration of one of the wlans I deleted. It would be interesting to hear if this was the case for other people as well. Anyone know what on-line forum or community has the most 3DS users? edit: After having played a couple of more hours, I can pretty much confirm that deleting the two unused wlans fixed the BSOD for me, and I can now leave wifi on.

He should have no problem getting in. It's not like he's a terrorist planning to bomb the President of the United States of America with a home-made incendiary device.

That's my impression as well. -
I'm really curious too see what Nintendo does about the BSOD issue. It appears to be pretty uncommon, but it has to be at least somewhat widespread to get the attention it has (or maybe that's naïve of me to believe,) but when they'll have had to address it, or I'm forced to take it back to the store just in case it's a hardware issue they can't fix with an update. I really wish Nintendo would take a more modern approach to customer service. They should've had a blog and twitter account updating us on the issue, but instead they're doing the 90s thing where the web site is just a way for them to list a bunch of support phone numbers. Maybe it's a Japanese corporate culture thing.

Once again my taste is proven bad. I was very positive Taken was stupid.

Looking over the shoulder won't do it — the fulcrum you have to keep your head inside is quite narrow, and has no room for two people. The slider only adjusts the intensity of the 3D effect, not the mode of displaying it — if you're unable to "see it" at all, I'd have my vision checked. From what I recall, Avatar was really good for diagnosing eye problems people were unaware they were "suffering" from. This may be untrue.

Thanks for the video, Jake. -
Happy birthday, DaveGilbert!

If nobody wants to see the film, but one person wants drinks after, will you go see the film alone first?

I quite like how this game looks hyper fucking amazing. As for the heartbeat, isn't the point that there's a little man inside, pulling levers?
-
You're thinking of real mechs – these are imaginary mechs, though, full of futuristic technology.

I'm trying to get a proper handle on the cloaking. It seems you're generally invisible, but if you approach someone from straight ahead they'll still see you, but it also seems a bit random. Maybe they've modeled the NPC's eyesight.

That fucking bird.

In my opinion, currently the main reason of getting one at this point is that you really want to see 3D without glasses. It's pretty cool, but the amazement wears off pretty fast, and then you're left with something that feels clunkier than the DS, and that, as far as I know, only has one game worth playing (Shadow Wars, which is fun). If it's either getting this or the inevitable next version that doesn't have the motherfucking stylus in the motherfucking back, I'd totally wait. By then, there'll be several sweet games available. Also, there's the BSOD thing, which I'd wait to see the consequences of.

Well, this is a first. In ten minutes I've gotten two of these while playing Shadow Wars: Apparently they're not uncommon and Nintendo knows about it. edit: Interestingly, maybe, after disabling wifi I was able to finish the entire mission without a hitch. It doesn't necessarily mean anything, but it might.

While the article is obviously too critical, there is no excuse for the VSM numbers we're seeing on the PC. It's a big shame too – if they really cared about anything but making huge piles of money, they'd spend some time tuning the PC VSM to at least what they managed in Crysis. As it is now, it's pathetic.
