I think they're just panicking over the iPad, and want to make sure Windows 8 will run on every device on the face of the earth. If this makes them restructure and modularize Windows in a better way, that's great. The video seemed to be just another layer of presentation on top of what we already know (and love) and there's no way they're breaking backwards compatibility, so I'm expecting this to be easily disableablable, and even disabled by default in the more serious businessman versions.

There is some weirdness with the user interface. The game sometimes freezes and skips weirdly, depending on where I put my mouse. Seems like some unchecked bug is using 100% CPU when everything is just right.

2K11? Really? I'm really excited for E3; not for any specific reason, but I love announcements, and every year at least a handful of particularly exciting ones are made during E3. As for Carmageddon, I'm not convinced a sequel shoul be made. I loved C2 to death (even without the gore it was just a fantastic game in many ways) but so much has happened since then. They'd have to be really good to make a worthwhile Carmageddon today. If they do, I'll be the first in line.

Don't worry, it's just my usual reaction when I expect open source software to function like Windows, readily using my installed hardware without question. Turns out there's no Solaris driver for my onboard network adapter.

Famous, Video games, Casting a Pod Zombie-style (Episode 0)

Of course, and I fully agree, but that doesn't change the fact that, if you wired yourself up with a microphone 24/7, there would be people sitting at their computers at night, listening closely to your snoring and waiting for you to say "puffin" in your sleep. -
Open source needs to die.

Famous, Video games, Casting a Pod Zombie-style (Episode 0)
toblix replied to pabosher's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
No, nobody here would like it. I heard they went way off track and started discussing topics that hadn't been planned in advance. Also, reportedly there were parts where they indulged in long sequences of repeated nonsensical meta-references to what you might call memes. Naturally, the recording had to be destroyed. -
I just watched this video on Shacknews, the latest behind the scenes thingie from whatever Frenchmen are making this game. After a couple of minutes I had already planned this post, the core points of which were going to be: This is the kind of typical promotional video that's the antithesis of the Japanese style I was trying to explain in this other thread. It's all meaningless bullshit about fucking "pushing the genre" or whatever. It's stupid how over-produced these things have become. Instead of just showing cool stuff and telling what it is they're making, they do a Hollywood-style production in an abadoned warehouse with nerdy lighting effects. However, after watching the entire thing, I got more excited about these things: They have the same function that Desperados had, which lets you "tag" people just by looking at them and hitting the right bumper. Then, when you're positioned you hit Y and then Sam just fucking shoots everyone in the face. They have an indicator for Sam's last known position, which I've missed in every stealth game I've ever played. Finally, the enemy will believe you're where they last saw you, and act accordingly. This (probably) lets you do awesome ambushes and shoot dudes from behind. In conclusion: This looks awesome, even though it's a bit worrying that everyone's French.

Coffee, photocopying, filing, sorting. I can also photoshop graphics for your games.

Can I join? I'll be Head of... something!

Maybe I should've been more clear. I don't think it's all about chance, I just feel like it's way more than it should be. I get most of the questions right as well, but I feel more like a gamerz with experience in gaming systems than a sharp-as-a-tack police detective.

Happy birthday everyone except Armchair! Happy birthday Jennifer Ellison!

Whilst I'm really loving this game, and can't wait to get home and solve some more murder mystery, I gotta say: the interview stuff is terrible. Sometimes it's Phoenix Wright style – he says "I left at eleven" but you have testimony he left at ten; sometimes the overacting cycle of "bite lips, shift eyes, swallow gallon of spit" makes it a 50/50 "doubt or lie" gamble; usually you think you've got it, and then Phelps just explodes in rage and accuses the person of murdering everyone. It's unpredictable and impossible to get right, no matter how good you are. They're definitely on to something though, and I hope they figure out how to make it depend more on skill and less on pure chance. I would like to have access to more clues, and try to connect them and catch the lies that way, sort of like an advanced Phoenix Wright, but that would probably kill the mass-appeal.

It's weird, though. This is basically play-by-email. Basically they're unable to handle the load of a tiny email server handling a couple of thousand requests. They don't have to do anything in real-time. It's just as strange in the client, too. With the amount of data you need to send and receive, you should be able to quickly switch between hundreds of various games without delay. Now it's five to ten seconds of downloading and "assimilating." Either they have extremely buggy code they threw together to be able to release, or they don't have the money to rent a decent server, or they don't know what they're doing. Or some fourth option I haven't considered.

Oh, I always play in windowed mode because I'm a huge giant pussy.

First of all, have you done a checkdisk?

Oh, I get it now. You all might've known this all along, but I just figured it out by reading the forums. Apparently the whole thing with having to select a server, and servers being isolated, games disappearing, etc. is a very recent problem, not something that's been going on for long. Hopefully they'll figure out how to do a proper multiplayer infrastructure before the game's reputation is completely ruined.

I had the impression the sp campaign was terribly broken and unfinished, but then Steve Gaynor sang its praise in Twitter, so now I don't know what to believe anymore.
-
That's the dumbest thing. So, we have to agree on a server, then? UK2, is it?
-
I don't know if I think this is more disturbing or awesome.

I think their server is having issues. I've added all of you, but after restarting and logging in again, all my games and friends are gone. Too bad such a fun game is having so many tech issues.

Sounds cool. I still need to come up with an ironically funny name for my guy.

Fucking shit piss cunt I thought this was a new thread about a new game and got all excited before I saw the date. Capcom needs to release the latest game in English, and they need to do it now.
